As Ive grown older, my daydreams have become increasingly occupied less with fantasy but more with the reality of my past and future. Nearly everyone daydreams about their future and reflects nostalgically (念旧地) or negatively on moments of the past. These moments can provide inspiration, but if you spend too much time daydreaming in this fashion you may be reducing your success in the present. If youve ever planned a vacation, youre familiar with the impatient days tapping at your desk, dreaming of the lazy, relaxing days to come. Unfortunately, sometimes you end up comparing the real vacation to your imagined one, and it doesnt live up to the standard. Reflecting nostalgically on the past can also prevent present enjoyment. It is equally fun to reflect on past achievements or fun events, but its possible to be so consumed with happy memories that you miss opportunities to create more. Weve all made mistakes that were ashamed of; reflecting on them is an important step in correcting those mistakes and becoming a better person. But dwelling(细想) too long on your past can also be negative. If you dwell too long on a past mistake you can begin to equate(使等同) yourself with your past and feel farther away from the person you want to be. Train your brain to think quickly about the past and future, and take only the information and inspiration that you need in order to be the best person you can without resting on your glory moments or your mistakes. If your identity is not dependent on the past or future, every experience is new and every day is a blank page for you to write. A fun mental exercise is to always tell yourself that youre experiencing things for the first time. So take advantage of each moment youre given. 24. What does the author think of daydreaming? A. Its the favorite for many kids. B. It can lead to fantastic adventures. C. Its the primary source of inspiration. D. Its common with both advantages and disadvantages. 25. Which of the following does Paragraph 2 tell us?A. Past achievements strongly influence us.B. Its important to be patient with our present life. C. Daydreaming may make the present disappointing. D. Reflecting nostalgically on the past brings us no pleasure.26. What should we avoid doing according to Paragraph 3? A. Reflecting on the past. B. Resting on our past experiences. C. Thinking about our past mistakes. D. Feeling ashamed of our past mistakes. 27. Whats the authors purpose in writing the text? A. To tell about her childhood.B. To tell how to let go the past. C. To suggest we focus on the present. D. To encourage us to learn from mistakes. C The reason why animals “waste” much time sleeping has always been somewhat of a mystery to scientists. The popular belief is that resting helps strengthen fresh memories and prepare the mind for a new day of learning. However, a new study has shown that not only creatures with brains but also the brainless jellyfish(水母) need zzzs! The researchers, Ravi Nath, Michael Abrams and Claire Bedbrook began by filling a fish tank with 23 kinds of the Cassiopea jellyfish. It is nicknamed the upside-down jellyfish because of its habit of sitting on the sea floor on its bell, with its tentacles (触角) waving upwards to catch any unsuspecting creatures that swims past for food. The jellyfish rarely moves on its own. The researchers, who used cameras to record the movement of the jellyfish for six days and nights, observed that the animals were 30% less active at night. However, to ensure that these animals, which have lived on the earth for over 650 million years, were sleeping and not just resting, they had to test for three requirements. The jellyfish should be disoriented(迷失方向的) when disturbed gently during their sleep, become active when awakened violently, and finally, be unable to function normally without enough sleep. The team began by gently moving the sleeping jellyfish from their preferred resting spot at the bottom of the tank to the surface. They observed it took some time before the animals swam back to their original sleeping area, showing they were disoriented. In contrast, when the action was repeated 30 seconds later, the fully-awakened animals instantly returned to the bottom, meeting the second requirement of sleep. To test how the creatures react to the lack of sleep, they kept the jellyfish awake the entire night by pouring water every 20 minutes. Sure enough, they were less active the following day.Anders Garm, a scientist at the University of Copenhagen, thinks that the study may establish that sleeping serves a purpose even more complex than currently believed. Abrams thinks by studying the jellyfish, “We might be able to get at the fundamental components of why something sleeps.”28. We can learn from Paragraph 1 that_.A. scientists dont pay much attention to brainless creaturesB. sleep helps slow down peoples memory lossC. people used to think sleep is a waste of timeD. scientists dont fully know about sleep29. What is probably a feature of the Cassiopea jellyfish? A. It likes swimming on the sea floor.B. It always stays in an upside-down state.C. It has great difficulty in catching food.D. It likes staying on the surface of water. 30. According to Paragraph 4, the researchers most probably concluded that_. A. sleep is essential for the jellyfishB. the jellyfish is bad at finding directionsC. it is hard to keep the jellyfish awake all the timeD. brainless creatures may have a special sleeping habit31. What does the last paragraph mainly show? A. The importance of getting sleep. B. The significance of the jellyfish. C. The significance of doing the research. D. The importance of knowing about peoples sleep. DOn a February afternoon in a classroom, Taylor came face to face with a cow-but it was all in her head. A virtual(虚拟的) reality headset had transported her and her classmates to a farm 250 miles away and for them the technology means field trips are no longer limited by a bus ride. On any given day, students nationwide walk through fields, dive into deep sea, and observe medical operations by using such headset. Its another way to attract the iPhone generation of students and improve their understanding and their grades. Richard Lamb is a scientist working at Buffalo Science Lab. In the lab the physical effects of virtual reality become clear as participants experience motion(运动) sickness without moving. “Some of the research were doing has shown that what you experience in virtual reality has very similar responses that you would get if you were doing the actual activity,” Lamb said. Its unknown how many classrooms have or will adopt the technology, but experts say its still relatively rare. While individual headsets that require a users phone can cost as little as $20 or $30, systems and software for classes will cost thousands of dollars. Early complaints about a lack of good software are fading as more companies enter the market, but the rules for use havent necessarily caught up with the technology. In New York, virtual lab experiments dont count toward the states hands-on lab time requirements. Even so, the sciences are an area where virtual reality holds particular promise for classrooms. “The biggest impediment is going to be the quality of that experience, and that means how closely it mimics(模仿) the physical world,” said David Evans, a scientist. “Doing dangerous things and running into a lot more cases represent a huge learning opportunity.” Lamb agreed. “Too often in schools, when we do things in labs, you mix things together and you get this outcome. And if you dont get that outcome you did something wrong, but we dont have enough resources for you to redo it,” he said. “In virtual reality, all I do is on the computer. I dont have to actually use chemicals.” 32. What does a virtual reality headset really help the students do? A. Take some exercise. B. Perform an operation. C. Go for a bus ride. D. Have advanced adventures. 33. The technology is rarely used in classrooms mainly because_. A. students show little interest in itB. its too expensive for users to afford itC. supporting software is inaccessible yetD. its inconvenient to be operated by students 34. Which word can replace the underlined word“impediment ”in Paragraph 5? A. Opportunity. B. Barrier. C. Surprise. D. Disappointment. 35. Which of the following statements do both Lamb and Evans agree with?A. This technology can save students a lot of time.B. This technology is safe when used in experiments.C. This technology can enrich students learning experiences.D. This technology can produce a better result in real life.第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。Businesses often talk about the importance of “networking” or having connections with many people that allow you to get some kinds of benefits. 36 The relationships we build with everyday people are Just as if less important, so we think about them less. This article focuses on how to build strong relationships in everyday life.Accept change. Its common to lose contact with people as we get older and our interests change, but some relationships are strong enough to survive the test of time. 37 Moving the base of the relationship to something a bit deeper, such as an admiration or an appreciation for the particular person, allows one to accept small differences in interests, likes, and dislikes. 38 Lolly Daskal once said, “Relationships function like a mirror, and eventually that change will reflect back onto how you are treated.”The meaning of this quote is pretty clear. There is no quicker way to weaken a relationship than by not being able to respect those around you. On the contrary, respect can be gained by being considerate towards others. This does not mean you have to agree with everything other people say, but being able to calmly set aside small differences helps overcome troublesome differences.Talk face to face. According to Forbes magazine, “Being able to see a persons body language, facial expressions, and gestures makes a world of difference in building a relationship.” This is because talking face to face communicates more information to us. By using body language, the speakers true message can be sent more efficiently. 39 Try to be as good of a listener as you are a speaker. Some people consider it more important to be heard and contribute to a conversation. Others believe it is more important to listen than to speak. Simply put, they are both wrong. 40 Conversations are meant to be a two-sided discussion.A. Treat people with respect.B. But how to establish strong business relationships?C. But what about networking outside the business world?D. Speaking and listening are equally important in any conversation.E. As long as you actively participate in the conversation, they will feel respected.F. This is because these relationships are not based primarily on common interests.G. In this way, communication is strengthened and misunderstandings are less frequent. 第三部分 英语知识运用 (共两节,满分45)第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 The weather was cold.
