Section Introduction & Reading and Vocabulary-Comprehending 阅读理解AAs an American artist and writer of childrens books, Tasha Tudors art and nineteenthcentury lifestyle have fascinated adults and children for decades. She received many awards and honors for her contributions to childrens literature. When people talk about her creativity in artwork, she said, “I do it to support my dogs and my four children.” Her great publishing record, the number of magazine stories that have been written about her over the years, and her admirers have no effects on her at all.Much of Tashas artwork and her reading are done in the wintertime. “I love winter. Its delightful,” she says. “I dont have to go anywhere because I work at home. If Im snowed in, I can stay this way for months.” She hopes for early, deep snow to protect her garden from the hardship of the New England winter, and when it comes she puts on snowshoes when she needs to get down the milelong dirt path that leads to the road.Given her enjoyment of winter and her fantasy(梦幻的) way of life, its not surprising that Tashas Christmas is a storybook holiday. She hangs flowers over the front door. Her tree comes from the woods, and it goes up on Christmas Eve, lit by handmade candles and decorated with her greatgrandmothers collection that dates from 1850. In a place of honor in the tree are large cookies cut into the shapes of her animals. The grandchildren and friends get presents from Tashas old dolls; so do the animals and they have their own Christmas tree. “Of course, its a known fact that all the animals talk on Christmas Eve,” she has written. Small, handmade gifts fill a big wooden box.At the end of each year, Tasha can look back and know that her life is perfect, that she has again ignored the twentieth century, and that the magic continues. And for the rest of us, heres a bit of advice, Tasha style: “Nowadays, people are so restless. If they took some tea and spent more time rocking on the porch(门廊) in the evening listening to light music, they might enjoy life more.”【解题导语】文章介绍了美国艺术家兼儿童读物作家Tasha Tudor。1Tasha loved winter because it allowed her to _Aread stories to her grandchildrenBshow her DIY snowshoes to kidsCstay indoors working and readingDenjoy bicycle riding along the pathC解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的“Much of Tashas artwork and her reading are done in the wintertime.”及“I dont have to go anywhere because I work at home.”可知C项正确。2From the passage,we can learn that Tashas life is _Amodern and fashionableBsimple and fantasticClonely and hardDadventurous and inspiringB解析:推理判断题。根据第三段第一句“Given her enjoyment of winter.storybook holiday.”以及最后一段的最后一句“If they took some tea.enjoy life more.”可知B项符合题意。3Which of the following is TRUE about Tasha?AShe cared little about fame.BShe created an animal fund.CShe wrote many stories for magazines.DShe bought presents for her relatives.A解析:细节理解题。根据第一段最后一句“Her great publishing record.have no effects on her at all.”可知A项正确。4In which section of a paper can you probably read the article?ATravel.BSports.CEconomy.DPeople.D解析:文章出处题。文章介绍了美国艺术家兼儿童作家Tasha Tudor,属于人物介绍类,因此选D。BYou try to enjoy your dinner in a garden, but several mosquitoes fly around you all the time. A minute later, you have a red bite on your leg. As you madly wave your hands, trying to get rid of these pests, you notice that others seem completely undisturbed. Could it be that mosquitoes prefer to bite some people over others? The short answer is yes. The experts have proved that mosquitoes do show blood preferences. But they are not biting for dinner. Female mosquitoes (males do not bite people) need human blood to develop eggs. Obviously, not just anyones blood will do.People with a high level of steroids(类固醇) or cholesterol(胆固醇) on their skin surface attract mosquitoes. “That doesnt necessarily mean that mosquitoes prey on people with higher overall levels of cholesterol,” Butler explains. These people simply may be more efficient at processing cholesterol, and the byproducts of that remaining on the skins surface are attractive to mosquitoes.“Mosquitoes also target people who produce large amounts of certain acids,” explains John Edman, PhD, spokesman for the Entomological Society of America. These acids can trigger mosquitoes sense of smell, attracting them to land on unsuspecting victims.Mosquitoes can smell their dinner from an impressive distance of up to 50 meters. This isnt good news for people who give off large quantities of carbon dioxide. Any type of carbon dioxide is attractive. And larger people tend to give off more carbon dioxide, which is why mosquitoes typically prefer adults to small children. Pregnant(怀孕的) women are at increased risk, as they produce a greaterthannormal amount of carbon dioxide.Movement and heat also attract mosquitoes. Therefore, if you want to avoid a mosquito bite at your next outdoor dinner, find a bench rather than a spot on the volleyball team. Heres why: as you run around the volleyball court, mosquitoes sense your movement and head toward you. Whats more, the heat from your sweating body draws them closer.【解题导语】本文介绍了蚊子喜欢叮咬的人群的特点。5According to the passage, why do the female mosquitoes bite people?ABecause they feed on human blood.BBecause they like the taste of human blood.CBecause they want to produce the next generation.DBecause they dont like the smell of people.C解析:细节理解题。根据文章第一段倒数第二句“Female mosquitoes (males do not bite people) need human blood to develop eggs.”可知母蚊子需要人血来培养下一代。6What does the underlined word “trigger” in Paragraph 3 mean?AMake something to be worse.BCause something to be active.CCause damage to something.DGet back the use of something.B解析:词义猜测题。根据画线词后面的“attracting them to land on unsuspecting victims”可推出,画线词意为“触发,激发”。7According to the passage, who is more likely to attract mosquitoes?AA boy sleeping on the couch.BA man with type A blood.CA girl with normal levels of steroids.DA woman who is going to give birth to a baby.D解析:细节理解题。根据文章大意及第四段最后一句“Pregnant(怀孕的) women are at increased risk, as they produce a greaterthannormal amount of carbon dioxide.”可知,孕妇更有可能吸引蚊子。8What is the authors purpose of writing this passage?ATo teach some ways to avoid mosquitoes bites.BTo warn people not to have dinner outside.CTo introduce what kind of people mosquitoes like best.DTo explain why the smell of carbon dioxide attracts mosquitoes.C解析:写作意图题。根据文章大意可知,本文主要介绍哪些人更吸引蚊子。 完形填空Every time I passed boys who were playing basketball, I stopped to watch them silently.
