阅读理解A(2018陕西省西安市高三模拟)Two young giantpanda twins born in the United States have returned home to China, but are struggling to adapt to the language and food. The 3yearold sisters,Mei Lun and Mei Huan, were the first surviving panda twins to be born in the United States, and were returned to China from Zoo Atlanta on Nov. 5.But the pair still understand English better than Chinese, and prefer American biscuits to Chinese bread. A zookeeper said that his main concern is that the pair are so addicted to American biscuits that everything they eatfrom bamboos to appleshas to be mixed with biscuits. They even want to snack on(吃零食)biscuits when drinking water. The zookeeper is trying to wean_them_off their biscuit habit, gradually replacing the American food with Chinese bread. Mei Huan is adapting, but Mei Lun doesnt want to touch the unfamiliar bread. Mei Lun is the livelier of the two, often jumping onto the roof and hanging upside down from a rail, but her slightly younger sister Mei Huan is calmer, preferring to sit still, observe her new environment and occasionally snack on bamboo. A language barrier is also reported. While the pair respond to their own names, and understand some English phrases such as“come here”,they dont understand the Sichuan dialect of Chinese. The news caused some laughter on Chinese social media, with some users commenting that the pandas would soon get used to Sichuans famous spicy cuisine.【语篇解读】本文是一则新闻报道,介绍了从美国归来的熊猫美轮和美奂目前还不能适应中国的语言和食物的事情。1Based on the passage, which statement do you think is right?AThe panda twins can fit in well in Sichuan.BThe panda twins are only fond of Sichuan food and dishes.CThe panda twins have been used to the new environment very quickly.DIts hard for the panda twins to get used to the new environment soon. 2.What does the underlined part“wean them off” in the fourth paragraph mean? AHelp them get rid of. BHelp them form. CHelp them strengthen. DHelp them keep. 3.From the passage we learn that of the two sisters _. AMei Huan mainly eats bamboo BMei Lun is living a more active life CMei Huan is not smarter than Mei Lun DMei Lun is as quiet as her younger sister 解析:B细节理解题。根据第五段中的“Mei Lun is the livelier of the two”可知,美轮是两只熊猫中较活跃的一只,故B项正确。根据第五段中的“but her slightly younger sister Mei Huan is calmer, preferring to sit still, observe her new environment and occasionally snack on bamboo”可知,A、D项表述错误,C项在文中并未提及。B(2018山西省省际名校联考)This time last year I entered two longdistance massparticipation swimming events, including the Jubilee River 10 km swim. At the last minute, just before both swims, I decided to pull out. The reality is, I live in fear of coming last.Last year, before the two events, I realized that I couldnt deal with coming last. I had looked at the swim times of those who had completed the previous year and calculated that, at my current swim pace, I would probably have come last in both. I just couldnt face it. But when next year came around, I decided to enter those same events again. For a few months, I trained hard, but I didnt get any faster. Then it was June 5, the day of the Jubilee River 10 km. The event started at 9:30 am, and the swimmers were anxious and eager to start. As I swam along, the river was quiet and clean and everything was peaceful. The sun shone. Meadows (草地) rolled by and every now and then someone would wave at the scene unfolding in the water. As the day wore on, somehow I didnt mind that, predictably, almost everyone was ahead. There were at least some swimmers still near me, and although we shared the same river we quietly occupied our own spaces. As I concentrated on doing my own thing, watching the sky, the bank, the other swimming caps passing or not passing. I realized I was enjoying myself. In the end, four hours and 29 minutes after Id started, I staggered (摇摇晃晃地走) out of the water and was greeted with a smile and a “well done” from the race organizer. I glanced back over my shoulder toward the water and noticed that there were a small handful of swimmers who were still to finish, behind me, out of a field of around 300 swimmers. But it didnt matter. I_was_just_relieved,_proud_and_happy_to_finish.As I drove away, my thoughts turned to my next long race of the season and how much I was looking forward to it, my fears of coming last gently receding 4The author intended to quit swimming mainly because _.Ashe feared that she couldnt finish the two racesBshe was afraid that she would let family members downCshe was unwilling to accept the possibility of finishing lastDshe wasnt fully prepared for the two races解析:C细节理解题。 5The author hopes to convey the message that _.Anever give up when facing challengesBit is process that matters mostCfailure is the mother of successDwinners always take it all解析:B推理判断题。 6What does the underlined sentence mean in Paragraph 5?AShe took pride in leaving all the other swimmers behind.BShe was proud that she was not the last one in the race.CShe was glad to finish the race and had a sense of relief.DShe was proud to be praised by the organizer. 结合前一句But it didnt matter.可知,relieved意为“减轻的;缓和的”,这和C项中的a sense of relief(解脱感)意思相符;proud and happy to finish在句中作伴随状语。 7It can be inferred from the end that the author is likely to _.Aparticipate in another race without any hesitationBanalyze the reason why she failed in the raceClose confidence completelyDdecide whether she is suitable for the race解析:A推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“my thoughts turned to my next long race of the season and how much I was looking forward to it”可知,作者盼望着参加下一次比赛,故选A项(毫不犹豫地参加另一次比赛)。C(2018福建泉州检测)We know a lot about the advantages and disadvantages of reading a hardcopy book vs. reading electronically. The problem is, many of us refuse to listen.Dont get me wrong: Digital reading has some real advantages. Ask people what they like most about reading on digital screens, and you hear over and over again about convenience. More points for digital reading:ebooks tend to be cheaper. Theres also the environmental argument. Think of the trees!Yet the soundness of this case is arguable. The earth metals to build ereaders are not just rare but highly poisonous. And think about all that energy needed to run servers and cooling fans. And remember, trees are a renewable resource. Then, theres the appeal of a hard copy. Many people prefer print when reading both for pleasure and for school or work. Drawing examples from my own research, some of the reasons are aesthetic (美学的). Others involve a sense of accomplishment, ease of annotation (“I can write on the pages”), and navigation (“easy to locate where I was”). Meanwhile, I hear abundant complaints about eye strain (眼疲劳) and headaches when using screens.Much of what students liked about reading print involved their minds. They say “its easier to focus”. Some also acknowledged they took more time with printed text and read more carefully. But what makes the failure of electronic reading is concentration. More than 92% of those I surveyed said they concentrated best when reading a hard copy. When a digital device has an Internet connection, its hard to resist the temptation (诱惑)So if digital interruptions dont threaten your enjoyment or understanding of a text, then medium may not matter. Casual reading like David Baldacci? If you break to check sports scores, there will be little harm done. 8What is an advantage of reading a hardcopy book?AIt is cheaper.BIt is easier to carry around.CIt helps people think deeper.DIt provides instant information. 根据文章第五段中的“. involved their minds. easier to focus. with printed text and read more carefully.” 9Whats the biggest problem of reading digitally?AEnvironmental concern.BPhysical discomfort.CLack of concentration.DInternet connection. 根据文章第六段第一句“But what makes the failure of electronic reading is concentration.” 10Whats the authors attitude toward ereading?ASupportive.BDisapproving.COptimistic. DUnconcerned. 11How is the passage mainly developed?ABy analyzing possible reasons.BBy providing typical examples.CBy listing practical suggestions.DBy presenting direct comparisons. D(2018安庆二模) Dragging a sleigh loaded with enough presents for the worlds children can be no easy skill. But,since ancient times, the Christmas Eve duty has been performed with distinction by a team of beloved reindeer(驯鹿) Soon, however,Santa Claus may have to start looking around for a stronger type of animal,as a new research shows the species is becoming increasingly puny.A 16year survey on the arctic Norwegian island of Svalbard found the reindeer there have declined in weight by an alarming 12 percent. The reduction in average bodymass is being blamed on global warming. In the research presented lately at a meeting of the British Ecological Society in Liverpool, scientists have explained how rising temperatures are robbing female reindeer of nutrients during important periods of pregnancy. Snow in Svalbard typically covers the ground for eight months of the year, which, combined with low temperatures, limits grass growth to June and July. But as summer temperatures have increased by around 1.5,grass has become more productive, allowing female reindeer to gain more weight by the autumn and therefore to have more babies. However, warmer winters have brought with them greater rainfall which freezes when it settles on the snow. Reindeer can often access the poor food sources beneath the snow by clearing it away with their antlers(鹿角),but they cannot break through the hard ice. As a result, female reindeer are becoming starved, causing them to abort their babies or give birth to much lighter young. Despite the findings, reindeer appear to be suffering less from the effect of climate change than some other arctic species. Last week the scientists warned that a third of the worlds polar bears could disappear in the next 40 years.【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了一项关于驯鹿受气候变化影响的研究。12Which of the following can replace the underlined word “puny” in Paragraph 2?AStrong. BMature.CHeavy. DWeak. 根据第二段第一句“Soon, however,Santa Claus may have to start looking around for a stronger type of animal.” 13Why do female reindeer become fat in autumn?AThe temperature is getting low.BThey give birth to more babies.CGrass has grown well since summer.DThey often break through the hard ice. 根据第四段第二句“But as summer temperatures have increased by around 1.5,grass has become more productive, allowing female reindeer to gain more weight by the autumn and therefore to have more babies.” 14What can we infer from the text?AClimate change has little effect on reindeer.BPolar bears suffer more from climate change.CReindeer have no trouble finding food in winter.DPolar bears will disappear in the near future. 15What does the text mainly talk about? AThe Christmas Eve duty will still be carried out by reindeer. BReindeer has decreased in weight owing to global warming. CGlobal warming contributes to more young reindeer. DMany arctic species are at the risk of dying out. .七选五(2018贵州省普通高等学校招生适应性考试)Many arguments teenagers have with their parents are about one thing: independence. As you get older, youll want to do more stuff on your own, without your mom and dad tagging along with you. The arguments generally start when your parents think you arent ready for extra responsibility while you think you are. Arguing with your parents isnt the best solution at all, but the best solution is gaining trust from your parents. _1_Understand that its not your parents who do not want you to have independence. They want the best for you and think youre not ready or youll hurt yourself if you have the freedom to do whatever you want. Show your parents you can be sensible. _2_ If you cant get home by 9:30, theyll never let you out after 10:00.Agree with them some “friends time” and some “family time” so that they know you wont be spending your whole weekend out with your friends. _3_ They wont imagine you getting into trouble if they know how they are._4_ They wont feel much worried letting you go off on your own if they know what youre up to. Call in and tell your parents that youre OK from time to time.
