单元检测(十九)Life in the Future.阅读理解ALindha was a student at Kansas State University. She is here to tell us about her time in Kansas in the city of Manhattan. What were the best things about it?Manhattan has a great university feel to it. I loved going to the football games. We would spend the whole day tailgating (开车尾派对) outside the stadium, drinking beer and having a big barbecue. What do you think of the people there?People from Kansas are so friendly. However, Id say that many Kansans are very sheltered and dont pay much attention to life outside the US. But as the grandma of my Kansan friend might say, “Were still sweet as pie.”What were the worst things about being there? Its very difficult to get around Kansas without a car. Everythings so spread out and there isnt really a public transportation system. What was the funniest thing that happened while you were there?I remember one trip I took with my friend to her grandparents house. They had horses and asked me if I wanted to go for a ride. I had never ridden a horse before but I decided to have a try. I hopped (跳上) on and everything was fine for a minute. But then the horse went crazy. It started bucking (猛然弯背跃起) and making these crazy noises. I thought I was going to die. My friend eventually calmed the horse down but not before I had destroyed an entire section of the fence. I thought they would be mad but they were just in shock they couldnt believe I had stayed on the horse for that long.Did you have any other problems?Im Swedish, but my English is pretty good because my dads English. But it took a little while to get used to the accent. The people from the cities dont have a strong accent, but the people from the country are hard to understand sometimes. You also have to be careful with the weather. In the winter it was absolutely freezing, and during the summer it was so hot I thought I might die. Of course, they have heating and air conditioning everywhere.语篇解读:本文是一则访谈。文章主要是关于对堪萨斯州立大学的学生Lindha的采访。1Whats Lindhas impression about people in Kansas?AThey are kind but unhappy.BThey are nice but isolated.CThey are patient and amusing.DThey are honest and generous.解析:选B细节理解题。由“What do you think of the people there?”一节中的“People from Kansas are so friendly”和“many Kansans are very sheltered and dont pay much attention to life outside the US”可知,Lindha认为堪萨斯州的人很友好,但是很少与外界接触,也不关心美国之外的生活。2What do we know about Lindhas horse riding experience?AShe fell off the horses back.BShe finally got the horse under control.CShe was brave but destroyed part of a fence.DShe had a wonderful and unforgettable experience.解析:选C细节理解题。由“What was the funniest thing that happened while you were there?”一节中的“I decided to have a try”和“before I had destroyed an entire section of the fence”以及“they couldnt believe I had stayed on the horse for that long”可知,Lindha非常勇敢,在骑马时由于马失控而毁坏了一段篱笆。3We learn from the text that Lindha _.Adoesnt like the weather in KansasBspeaks English with a Swedish accentCspeaks highly of the transportation system in KansasDdoesnt like the school life in Kansas State University解析:选A细节理解题。由最后一段中的“In the winter it was absolutely freezing, and during the summer it was so hot I thought I might die.”可知,Lindha不喜欢堪萨斯州的天气。BQuicker and faster 3D printers have allowed not just amazing objects to be created, but have started to affect how doctors treat patients.Weve put together a list of some of the most amazing medical breakthroughs made possible with 3D printing.LifeSaving AirwayIn 2013, doctors created a new airway for Kaiba Gionfriddo, a boy born with an airway that kept collapsing (萎陷). To save his life doctors printed tiny tubes to join together in different shapes and sizes until one finally worked for Kaiba. It was placed in Kaibas bronchus (支气管) so that it no longer collapsed. Even more remarkably, once the plant was placed it could stay there. Its designed to eventually be absorbed into the body.New “Bionic” HandsOne of the most remarkable ways 3D printing is now being used is as a way to create prosthetics (假肢). A boy born without an arm named Alex was able to get a new “bionic” hand thanks to it. Last year a college student spent 8 weeks coming up with a special prosthetic design that only cost a few hundred dollars in materials. He said he wanted to create a prosthetic far cheaper than other choices that can run tens of thousands of dollars.A Practice HeartIn Seattle, doctors have been able to use 3D printing technology to “practice” risky operations so that they will face fewer surprises in the operating room. Kami Sutton was born with her heart “in the wrong place”. For a recent operation her doctor was able to take many scans of Suttons heart and print out a model. “Kamis heart is truly oneofakind,” Dr. Stephan Seslar, a heart disease specialist said. “Operating on her without understanding the structure of her heart better could be very dangerous.”A New SkullA UK. man was able to have part of his skull rebuilt thanks to a 3D printer. Stephen Power broke his cheek bones in a crash. To help Power his doctors instead created 3D bones all carefully printed in the shape of his face. “This is really the first time weve taken it to this stage, where everything has been planned and modeled in advance and worked sweetly,” said Adrian Sugar, a doctor.语篇解读:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了3D打印技术在医疗上的应用。4What is special about the 3D printed airway?AIt uses hightech materials.BIt varies in shapes and sizes.CIt can be absorbed by the body.DIt can prevent any disease in the airway.解析:选C细节理解题。由“LifeSaving Airway”一节中的“Even more remarkably . Its designed to eventually be absorbed into the body.”可知,3D打印的人工气管能最终被人体吸收。5What is the advantage of the new “bionic” hand?AIts price.BIts effects.CIts materials. DIts shape design.解析:选A推理判断题。由“New Bionic Hands”一节中的“a special prosthetic design that only cost a few hundred dollars in materials . a prosthetic far cheaper than other choices that can run tens of thousands of dollars”可知,3D打印的仿生手优势在于其成本低。6How can 3D printing technology help doctors in the operating room?AIt helps them get better scans.BIt guarantees the success of operations.CIt enables them to practice and learn more.DIt helps them to deal with patients anxiety.解析:选C推理判断题。由“A Practice Heart”一节中的“to practice risky operations”和“For a recent operation her doctor . print out a model”可知,3D打印的心脏能帮助医生在真正动手术之前多练习手术步骤。7What does Adrian Sugar think of the new skull printed by 3D technology?AHe has doubts about it.BHe thinks highly of it.CIt needs to be better planned.DIt functions well but needs improving.解析:选B推理判断题。由最后一段中的“This is really the first time weve taken it to this stage, where everything has been planned and modeled in advance and worked sweetly”可知,Adrian Sugar认为3D打印的头骨效果很好。.阅读七选五Most of us believe that we know ourselves better than anyone else in this world.
