In a General Inquiry (一般询价), the importer may ask only for catalogues, price lists, samples, sample books, or quotations, etc., in order to get a general idea of the business sco

49、pe of the exporter. In a Specific Inquiry(具体询价), the importer points out what products he needs and asks for a quotation or an offer for this item. The names and descriptions of the goods inquired for, including specifications, quantity, etc.Asking whether there is a possibility of giving a special

50、discount and what terms of payment and time of delivery you would expect.Stating the possibility of placing an order. A quotation报价,报价单 is a statement of the prevailing prices of goods and services. The supplier is willing to provide goods and service at the prices on the terms and conditions mentio

51、ned in it.A satisfactory quotation includes: 1.An expression of thanks for the enquiry 2.Details of prices, discounts, terms of payment,time of shipment, packing conditions 3.A statement of clear indication what the price cover (freight, insurance etc.) 4.A promise as to date of delivery or time of

52、shipment 5.The period for which the quotation is valid 6.An expression of hopes that the quotation will be accepted.An offer( 报盘 is an expression in which its offeror is willing to conclude a traction with an offeree on the terms and conditions mentioned therein during its valid period.An offer is a

53、 proposal made by sellers to buyers in order to enter into a contract. There are two kinds offers: firm and non-firm offers.(1)A quotation is often taken by many Chinese business persons to stand for a unit price with delivery conditions. e.g. USD324/PC CIF New York; An offer is considered to includ

54、e more conditions such as shipment, payment, insurance and packing.(2)From the legal point of view a quotation is not an offer. It is only a promise on the part of the seller to supply goods on the terms stated. A firm offer (实盘)is a definite promise to sell goods at the stated prices, usually withi

55、n a stated period of time. The terms stated in a firm offer is binding on the sellers if they are accepted by the buyers within its validity. In a firm offer, an exact description of the goods, the time of shipment and the mode of payment should be included.A non-firm offer (虚盘)Unlike a firm offer,

56、a non-firm offer is not binding upon the sellers. In other words, a non-firm offer can be withdrawn or changed by the sellers. Non-firm Offer: There are four kinds of flexible offer. (1) Offer subject to prior sale, Offer subject to being unsold. (有权先售报价 (2) Offer subject to confirmation. 经确认为有效的 报价

57、 (3) Offer on approval. 买方看货后再订的报价(4)Offer on sale or return. 允许退货的报价If an importer is satisfied with the products offered by a foreign supplier, he will place an order with him for these articles. An order is an offer to buy, which is not legally binding until it is accepted by the sellers.An order

58、 is a letter or printed form sent by an importer to an exporter for enquiry to supply goods they negotiated . Once an order is accepted by the exporter , he must send a letter confirming agreed terms and conditions. Then a transaction is concluded and a contract will be signed between both parties.T

59、he terms of payment are an important part of the business contractFrom the sellers point of view, the best terms would be full payment in cash at the time of sale,while the buyers would prefer to have the goods before making paymentImporters and exporters are separated from each other by thousands o

An L/C is a tool or instrument of payment, and the payment is guaranteed by a bank.
