The object of IEC is to promoteinternational co-operation on all questions concerning standardization in the electrical and electronic fields. Tothis end and in addition to other activities, IEC publishes International Standards, Technical Specifications,Technical Reports, Publicly Available Specifications (PAS) and Guides (hereafter referred to as “IECPublication(s)”). Their preparation is entrusted to technical committees; any IEC National Committee interestedin the subject dealt with may participate in this preparatory work. International, governmental and non-governmental organizations liaising with the IEC also participate in this preparation. IEC collaborates closelywith the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in accordance with conditions determined byagreement between the two organizations.2) The formal decisions or agreements of IEC on technical matters express, as nearly as possible, an internationalconsensus of opinion on the relevant subjects since each technical committee has representation from allinterested IEC National Committees.3) IEC Publications have the form of recommendations for international use and are accepted by IEC NationalCommittees in that sense. While all reasonable efforts are made to ensure that the technical content of IECPublications is accurate, IEC cannot be held responsible for the way in which they are used or for anymisinterpretation by any end user.4) In order to promote international uniformity, IEC National Committees undertake to apply IEC Publicationstransparently to the maximum extent possible in their national and regional publications. Any divergencebetween any IEC Publication and the corresponding national or regional publication shall be clearly indicated inthe latter.5) IEC itself does not provide any attestation of conformity. Independent certification bodies provide conformityassessment services and, in some areas, access to IEC marks of conformity. IEC is not responsible for anyservices carried out by independent certification bodies.6) All users should ensure that they have the latest edition of this publication.7) No liability shall attach to IEC or its directors, employees, servants or agents including individual experts andmembers of its technical committees and IEC National Committees for any personal injury, property damage orother damage of any nature whatsoever, whether direct or indirect, or for costs (including legal fees) andexpenses arising out of the publication, use of, or reliance upon, this IEC Publication or any other IECPublications.8) Attention is drawn to the Normative references cited in this publication. Use of the referenced publications isindispensable for the correct application of this publication.9) Attention is drawn to the possibility that some of the elements of this IEC Publication may be the subject ofpatent rights. IEC shall not be held responsible for identifying any or all such patent rights.International Standard IEC 60068-2-5 has been prepared by IEC technical committee 104:Environmental conditions, classification and methods of test. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition of published in 2010. This editionconstitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previousedition:a) the title of this document has been modified;b) the current thermal effect test method, specified as “Test method Sa“ has been retainedand the weathering test method specified as “Test method Sb“ has been added. The text of this International Standard is based on the following documents:BS EN IEC 6006825:2018IEC 60068-2-5:2018 IEC 2018 5Full information on the voting for the approval of this International Standard can be found inthe report on voting indicated in the above table. This document has been drafted in accordance with the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2.A list of all parts in the IEC 60068 series, published under the general title Environmentaltesting, can be found on the IEC website. The committee has decided that the contents of this document will remain unchanged until thestability date indicated on the IEC website under “http:/webstore.iec.ch“ in the data related tothe specific document. At this date, the document will bereconfirmed, withdrawn, replaced by a revised edition, oramended.A bilingual version of this publication may be issued at a later date.CDV Report on voting104/735/CDV 104/789/RVCBS EN IEC 6006825:20186 IEC 60068-2-5:2018 IEC 2018INTRODUCTIONThis part of IEC 60068 describes methods of simulation designed to examine the effect ofsolar radiation on equipment and components at the surface of the earth. The maincharacteristics of the environment to be simulated are the spectral irradiance of solarradiation, as observed at the earths surface, and the intensity of received energy, incombination with controlled temperature conditions. However, the combination of solarradiation with other environments, for example temperature, humidity, water spray (tosimulate wetting) and air velocity, should be considered. Two different methods are described, one aiming at the thermal effects, a second aiming at the weathering effects.BS EN IEC 6006825:2018IEC 60068-2-5:2018 IEC 2018 71ENVIRONMENTAL TESTING Part 2-5: Tests Test S: Simulated solar radiation at ground level andguidance for solar radiation testing and weatheringScopeThis part of IEC 60068-2 specifies the methods for testing equipment or components undersimulated solar radiation conditions. This document is applicable to the equipment and components at the surface of the earth. The purpose of testing is to investigate to what extent the equipment or components areaffected by simulated solar radiation in the presence of moisture to reproduce the weatheringeffects (temperature, humidity and/or wetting) that occur when they are exposed in actualend-use environments to daylight or to daylight filtered through window glass. This documentspecifies two test methods, test method Sa: thermal effect test, and test method Sb:weathering test.2 Normative referencesThe following documents are referred to in the text in such a way that some or all of theircontent constitutes requirements of this document. For test purposes, CIE 85:1989, Table 4 givesa value of 1 090 W/m2 for the global solar radiation at the surface of the earth from the sun atzenith; this value is based on a solar constant E0 = 1 367 W/m2.4.3 Spectral irradiance of solar radiationThe standard spectral irradiance of the global solar radiation specified for this test, inaccordance with the recommendations of CIE 85:1989, Table 4 (see Annex A), is given inFigure 1 and in Table 1.2 0001 8001 6001 4001 2001 00080060040020000,3 0,5 0,7 0,9 1,1 1,3 1,5 1,7 1,9 2,1 2,3 2,5Wavelength (m)IECFigure 1 Global solar spectral irr
