But the truth is that you can have last nights leftovers in the a. m. if you want to. I know lots of women who skip breakfast, and they have a ton of different excuses for doing it. Some say they dont have time. Others think theyre “saving” calories; still others just dont like breakfast food. But the bottom line is that eating in the morning is very important when youre trying to lose weight. “Eating just about anything from 300 to 400 calories would be better than nothing at all,” says Katherine Brooking, R. D, who developed the super-easy eating plan for this years “SELF CHALLENGE”. And even pizza can be healthy if its loaded with vegetables, and you stick to one small piece. Breakfast is one meal I never miss, and the same goes for most weight loss success stories. Research shows that eating breakfast keeps you from overeating later in the day. Researchers at the University of Southern California found that breakfast skippers have a bigger chance of gaining weight than those who regularly have a morning meal. So eat something in the morning, anything. I know plenty of friends who end up having no breakfast altogether, and have just coffee or orange juice. I say, try heating up last nights leftoversit may sound crazy, but if it works for you, do it! I find if I tell myself, “You can always eat it tomorrow,” I put away the leftovers instead of eating more that night. Try it you may save yourself some pre-bedtime calories. And watch your body gain the fat-burning effects. 56. The word “leftovers” in Paragraph 1 probably means_. A. food remaining after a meal B. things left undone C. meals made of vegetables D. pizza topped with fruit 57. What can we infer from the text? A. Working women usually have breakfast in a hurry. B. Many people have wrong ideas about breakfast. C. There are some easy ways of cooking a meal. D. Eating vegetables helps save energy. 58. According to the last paragraph, it is important to_. A. who go to work early B. who want to lose weight C. who stay up late D. who eat before sleep B Sure, its good to get along with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant. And yes, its good to get along with your teacher because, in general, its smart to learn how to understand the different types of people youll meet throughout your life. “But really, theres one super-important reason why you should get along with your teacher. When you do, learning bursts right open,” says Evelyn Vuko, a longtime teacher who writes an education column(专栏) called “Teacher Says” for the Washington Post newspaper. In fact, kids who get along with their teachers not only learn more, but theyre more comfortable asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier to understand new material and do your best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school life, such as bullying. As a kid in a primary or middle school, youre at a wonderful stage in your life. Youre like a sponge (海绵), able to absorb lots of new and exciting information. On top of that, youre able to think about all this information in new ways. Your teacher knows that, in most cases, is very excited to be the person whos giving you all that material and helping you make it. Remember, teachers are people, too, and they feel great if youre open to what theyre teaching you. Thats why they wanted to be teachers in the first placeto teach! Some kids may be able to learn in any situation, whether they like the teacher or not. But most kids are sensitive to the way they get along with the teacher, and if things arent going well, they wont learn as well and wont enjoy being in class. 60In the passage, the author mainly talks about _. 4 A. how to get along well with others B. the importance of a good relation with teachers C. how much the students are expected of to get along with teachers D. how to make the time in the classroom more pleasant 61“Learning bursts right open” in the third paragraph really means _. Many kids can do well without a good relationship with teachers. 63Which of the comments is FALSE on teachers and their work according to the passage? A. Teachers are excited even if you wouldnt like to accept their teaching. B. Teachers sometimes have the same feelings as students do. C. Though few, there are still some students who can learn even if they dont like the teacher. D. Having a bad relationship with your teachers does more or less harm to your studies. C BEIJING changed the office hours of many institutions starting April 12 in the hope of reducing traffic jams during rush hour. The new policy asked 800,000 employees to replace their former working schedule of 8:30 am to 5:30 pm with the new working hours of 9 am to 6 pm. This is just one part of the Beijing municipal governments plan to fight traffic jams. Starting April 1, daytime parking fees in 13 downtown areas were raised to encourage less driving. Bus rapid transit (BRT,快速公交系统) is one such idea. Special bus lanes carry almost as many passengers as a subway system. They cost less and are becoming popular in many big cities. Now Beijing has five BRT lines Shanghai is dealing with traffic problems by charging higher fees for license plates(牌照). The city is also controlling the total number of plates sold. Now, it is considering a plan to charge cars for entering the central business district, as London does. Meanwhile, there are signs that Chinese are more aware of the serious problem of traffic.
