difference of time-conscious between chineses and americanswith the world becoming smaller,we need to learn about languages, cultures, customs of different countries, like many young people who leave home to study in another country, like many business person do the businesses with foreigners.usually, our views may clash with the different beliefs, norms, values, and traditions that exist in different countries.because we live in different environment ,and everything is different.however, today id like to talk about the difference of time-conscious between chineses and americans.“time is money”,”time is the most important thing”,” we have to cherish time” and so on,which we can be heard from people very often.in my opinion, americans cherish time more than chinese people.american believe no one stands still.they always think if you are not moving ahead, you are falling behind.this attitude results in a nation of people committed to researching, experimenting and exploring.americans may try them best to save time carefully.what about chinese?how they treat time?as i know, greeting between chineses and americans exists an interesting kind of difference.chinese people may ask his colleagues”have you eatten yet?”but amercans may ask “hows your work?”thats a normal behavior, the same view as the chinese people think of eating.so it can be seen that ameriscans really treat time as money, and can not let time go. but the chinese people are different. they just waste their time.a foreigners first impression by americans is likely to be that everyone is in a rush-often under pressure.city people always appear to be hurry to get where they are going, restlessly seeking attention in a store,or elbowing others as they try to complete their shopping.racing through daytime meals is part of the pace of life in this country.working time is considered precious.other in public eating-places are waiting for you to finish eating,so they, too, can be served and get back to work within the time allowed.you also find drivers will be abrupt and people will push past you.you will miss smiles, brief conversations, and small exchanges with strangers.chineses are different from americans. regardless of morning or evening, the streets of china are quiet.i mean chineses run slowly in the street.if someone runs quickly,it will be treated as a crazy man.hurry to shop in a china store is abnormal. they are usually very casual in shopping.they think shopping time is enjoyble, its not necessary to hurry.when you meet the stranger, smiles, brief conversations and exchanges can show that you are a polite person. an american said that they are slaves to nothing but the clock.time is treated as if it were something almost real.we budget it ,save it,waste it ,steal it, kill it,cut it ,account for it;we also charge for it.it is a precious resource.many people have a rather acute sense of the shortness of each lifetime.once the sands have run out of a persons hourglass, they cannot be replaced.we want every time to count.in daily life, americans will miss the opening exchanges of a business call, for example.they will miss the ritual interaction that goes with a welcoming cup of tea or coffee that may be a convertion in their own country.they may miss leisurely business chats in a restaurant or coffee house.however, the chinese people is dissimilarity.chineses,in the start of doing business, usually have a short talk, coffee or tea which they think necessary.a short talk help them to stand-up their relationship,so that easier to make mutual benefit when they meet their friends or colleagues ocassionally, greeting to each other is in good manner.chineses need the opening exchanges of a business call,if not, they will think that you are impolite.to us the impersonality of electronic communication has little or no relationship to the significance of the matter at hand.in some countries no major business is conducted without eye contact, requiring face-to-face conversation.in america, too,a final agreement will normally be signed in person.however, people are meeting increasingly on television screens, conducting”teleconferences”to settle problems not only in this country but also-by statllite-internationally.because the u.s. is definitely a telephone country.americans value time highly, and they resent someone else”wasting”it beyond a certain appropriate point.we must learn from americans.make the life time more quickly.more cherish time.in my opinion, thinking of time in our mind are different from americans. this is also a cultural difference.usually people are always in a rush. whether you are in the same office, or you meet him/her on the road, youll find that he/she is always under much pressure and is doing something or walking hurriedly. also these people take “insignificant” small talk as a waste of life, so their greeting and conversation is as brief as possible so that much time can be spared to do things “more important”. they never spend time enjoying meals but just gobble up their food and then go back to their work quickly.thats a symptoms of americans.people run slowly on the street,it seems to be leisurely.to the chinese people, greeting and short talk are important because of showing their politeness.t
