skillsabstract: in the process of english reading comprehensions learning and problem solving, we students should have the strong reading ability, mastering not a large amount of vocabulary、wide knowledge、good grammar, but some certain reading skills and techniques. this article mainly discuss some english reading skills for college students. key words:skills; habits; vocabulary;memory摘要:在英语阅读理解的学习与解题过程中,学生要具有较强的阅读能力,不但要求掌握较大的词汇量、较宽的知识面、较好的语法,而且还必须掌握一定的阅读技能和技巧。本文主要针对大学英语学习者谈一些英语阅读的技巧。关键词:技巧;习惯;词汇;记忆1. introductionreading comprehension is an important part of english learning. english reading ability is the basis and premise of developing other language skills, specifically, english reading can not only cultivate students english language sense, but also promote the accumulation of vocabulary and raise the level of writing, which is of great help to cultivate students comprehensive ability. students can read a lot of articles by themselves as long as they grasp the reading skills and techniques and learn to achieve required information by english and improve various aspects ability. reading comprehension is a test of the comprehensive ability to use language, it includes the use of grammar、the generation of vocabulary knowledge、the ability to understand statement and the expanded aspect of knowledge. expanding the vocabulary is quite important to improve the language ability. now we will discuss some specific methods and skills in english reading comprehension. 2 reading skills reading the essay should follow the principle of from the whole to details, by the step- the full text, paragraphs, sentences, words . but in 2.1 the improvement of reading speedspeed to solve the problem is key to examination. to improve reading speed, you must master reading skills. now i will introduce several skills: the first is sense group reading , that is reading in sense group as a unit without pausing in a group. second, expanding stadiametric methods, people with strong reading ability usually divide a line of words into three to four fixation, the wider the range is, the faster the reading speed is. third, signal words in the article plays an essential role, not only indicate the connection between the context, but also can help you adjust the reading speed of below. fourth, guessing the word meaning is a indispensable way to do the reading comprehension. it contributes you to get rid of the psychological dependence that you cant do without dictionary. everyones vocabulary are relative, so when we meet some new words, we should not panic. these new words can be roughly divided into two kinds, one kind is that the meaning does not interfere with our understanding of the article. even we cant clear a sentence because of a new word, sometimes it does not affect our mark in the specific test. the other kind is students can guess the meaning of the words according to the context, which needs solid language foundation、superb skill and precise reasoning to ensure our guessing correctly. now i will show you some suggestions to help you with you reading. looking at these new words in the part of speech in the article, that is to see it is noun, verb, adjective, adverb, or other parts of speech. moreover, looking at the words in the article with what words to use, then with your own knowledge, you can guess correctly. see if the same words appearing in the other parts of the context, comparing them, then you can guess the meaning.2.2 good habits of reading it needs a long process to improve our reading comprehension. so we should insist on doing some reading exercises, and at the same time we can summary our reading methods and skills. we must keep it in mind that doing reading comprehension is not only to cope with examination but also to improve our learning ability. in addition, when we do some reading exercises, we should pay our attention to both intensive reading and extensive reading. on the one hand, we cant just focus on the intensive reading, ignoring the the quantity and the improvement of reading speed and dont look up every new word in the dictionary. on the other hand, not blindly paying attention to the extensive reading just for speed and contenting with a little knowledge of reading materials, rushing out, ignoring the accumulation of language basic knowledge.2.3 test strategyin the examination, we should be absorbed in reading, every minute counts, and overcome the irritable mood, paying attention to the reasonable allocation of limited reading time. then answer the questions in the order after the first difficult. if you meet certain quite difficult questions you cant solve, you should give up instantly and go on to answer the others in order to avoid wasting too much time and energy and affecting answering other questions. after finishing other questions that you can answer, you can return to the original problem given up.the solving steps of reading comprehension are generally looking at the title firstly, then looking for the answers. you can scan the title as soon as possible, understand the topic request and grasp the center point. then you should search the answer in the related text with question. answering these problems about implied meaning, you should be based on the writers thought and the articles structure to make an analysis logically. when you solve the problem about article topic and so on, you can begin at inductive paragraph meaning and pay attention to topic sentence in each paragraph, which usually in the first or the tail positon.3. the specific methods as a general, according to different reading material, we should adopt some different reading methods. for some articles easy to understand, we can read carefully the text then answer the questions; for some articles of moderate difficulties, we should go through all the questions, then answer them; for the texts that has more new words and some difficult and unfamiliar subjects, we can go through all the questions then search the answer with them. there are some common methods that can be used for reference, such as extensive reading, skimming, scanning, and intensive reading. the common reading comprehension subjects are as follows:3.1 the main ideas questions the main ideas questions, that is to say finding the articles central ideas and the meaning of paragraph. most of articles themes are expressed by a sentence, which is the theme sentence. as a rule, the topic sentence of interpreting articles is in the first sentence, but in the inductive articles, the theme sentence is at the end of sentence. sometimes it is in the middle of the sentence, there is a adversative which can draw our attention in the article. concluding all the topic sentences of the paragraph, you can find out the theme.the main ways to question are as follows: what does the passage mainly discuss?which of the following titles is most suitable to the passage?3.2 detail questions it is a question to details and important information related to theme in the articles. the content refer to age、location、digital、tasks and facts. usually we should adopt scanning to solve this questionwe should make facts and basis provided by articles clearly. then to evaluate them and make reasonable judgments. 3.3 inference questionsit requests you answer the questions according to specific information and opinions in the article or implication of some certain sentence or paragraph. such problems are generally difficult because it is not always one plus one equals to two . sometimes about is correct. a example to question is such as which of the following can be inferred from the passage? 3.4 exclusive questionsit is also called true or false. its right answer is excluded from the content or only the correct solution is in the article. if it is the former, you should exclude the three choices related to the text; if
