got into me.I lied about many thingsI lied that I had eaten all my dinner, when in fact I buried it in the trash can.I lied that I had made my bed, when clearly I had not.My lies were not hurting anyone, but for some reason I felt the need to tell lies on an impulse (冲动) that didnt feel like my own.I was labeled a liar. One day my sisters and I were invited to spend the weekend with my aunt.We all loved it.She spoiled us with her time. And she was an amazing artist. She had cool pencils, erasers and other supplies that any young girl would love to get her hands on.Then it happenedsomeone took one of Aunt Kims good art erasers and rubbed it across the entire top of the TV.The eraser mined the shiny finish on the TVs casing. All the three of us were called into the TV room and asked to admit.Nobody did!Aunt Kim told us how disappointed she was.The next thing I knew was that she was on the phone with my parents and they were on their way to picking me up.It had to be me!I was the liar.I argued, but no one listened. And then before dinner there was a knock at the front door!Aunt Kim was standing there. It turned out my younger sister finally felt guilty! She admitted that she was the one who rubbed the eraser on the TV.I was invited back!A lie may take care of the present, but it has no future. No matter how big or small your lies are, once you are labeled a liar, earning trust takes a lot of work and time.【语篇解读】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了作者为自己的撒谎行为付出代价的故事。1Why does the author tell lies?AShe just does that out of a strong desire.BShe can find pleasure in telling a lie.CShe is afraid to useless.C推理判断题。根据第二段的叙述,尤其是“Nobody did!Aunt Kim told us how disappointed she was”可推知,姑姑之所以感到失望是因为没有一个人承认这个错误。3Whats the reaction of the authors parents and aunt to the incident?AThey felt puzzled about who did it.BNone of them blamed the three girls.CThey gave the author a chance to admit.DThey believed it was done by the author.D细节理解题。根据第三段中的“The next thing I knew was that she was on the traditions.Speaking to strangers was not encouraged.People were most hospitable(好客的) and friendlybut only once they had been introduced to new people. However,I have been lucky enough to spend some time in both Italy and the US,where I found traditions of hospitality and politeness to be very different.I experienced Italian hospitality firsthand on a crowded railway carriage travelling, one afternoon, from Genoa to Florence.Sinking gratefully into an empty seat,I was berated (训斥) in rapid Italian by a gentleman who was returning to this seatit had not been “spare” after all.I apologized in English, and got up to allow him back into the seat. The gentleman obviously had no understanding of the English language, but he,too, realized my genuine mistake. He smiled and gestured for me to remain in the seat, and he himself remained standing in the corridor for the remainder of the journey. The other occupants of the carriage smiled and nodded at me and made me feel quite welcome amongst them.I feel that if this had been in England,a foreigner who made a mistake would not always be so kindly treated.Transport also featured in the differences I noticed between English and American culture.I flew to New York on a plane with mainly English passengers. We sat together in near silence.Nobody spoke to me nor,as I expected,to anyone else they did not know. They felt it was not polite to intrude on someone elses privacy. However, when I travelled across the United States, whether by plane or Greyhound bus,I was never short of conversation.Conversation was going on all around me and whoever sat next to me was happy to introduce themselves and ask me about myself. They obviously felt it would have been rude not to speak to another person, whether they were strangers or not.【语篇解读】本文作者通过自己的旅行经历说明了不同文化中人们对于“好客”和“礼貌”的表达方式不一样。5What do we know about the occupants of the carriage when the author was travelling in Italy?AThey all laughed at the author for his mistake.BThey were all on the side of the gentleman.CThey would not bear a mistake like the authors in public.DThey all showed their understanding of the authors mistake.D细节理解题。根据第三段中的“but he,too, realized my genuine mistake. He smiled. The other occupants of the carriage smiled and nodded at me and made me feel quite welcome amongst them”可知,车厢里其他的人都对作者点头微笑,说明他们理解作者的错误。故选D。6The author finally believes the Italian people are AcoldBrudeChospitableDhelpfulC推理判断题。根据第三段第一句的“I experienced Italian hospitality”以及本段内容可推知,意大利人热情友好。故选C。7According to the last paragraph,English passengers sat in near silence because Athey were all strangers to each otherBthey were too tired to speakCprivacy was a valued tradition in EnglandDeverybody had their own share of privacyC细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“We sat together in near silence.Nobody spoke to me nor,as I expected,to anyone else they did not know. They felt it was not polite to intrude on someone elses privacy”可知,英国乘客几乎都不说话,因为他们国家的传统认为干涉别人的隐私是不礼貌的。故选C。8The purpose of the author is to tell us Ahis travelling experienceBcultural differences to show hospitality and politenessCthe culture shock he experienced in Italy and the USDhow to adapt ourselves to a new
