He was very lucky as he grew up having other kittens (young cats) to socialize with, and was used to people from the moment he was born. However, when it came time to find the kittens homes, no one knew where Jack would end up.Thats when I got an email from my friend. All she asked was “Do you still want one of the kittens? Theres one here with no eyes and no one would like to take him.” Without thinking, I told her that I did want the kitten. When we first brought him home, Jack stayed mostly in my room. After about a day he had no issues running around and climbing on everything. At times he gets lost in the house, hell stop. But we just call him and talk to him and it isnt long before he finds his way back to us.A few weeks after getting Jack, we got a new farm cat named Bear. Jack and Bear have become best friends. It doesnt matter that he cant see. He always knows when Bear is around. Hell run across the yard straight to Bear and wrap his front legs around his neck in a big hug. They run after each other around and wrestle. Theyll lie down in the grass together when tired.Jack is truly an inspiration. Ive owned lots of kittens in my life, but Jack is the happiest and most playful. He doesnt feel sorry for himself. He doesnt need pity. I think Jean, owner of Gumbo, another eyeless cat, said it is best when she told me that cats dont have disabilities, they have adaptability. 1Why did Jack come to our home?AI cared for an eyeless cat.BI didnt mind whether he was blind.CNo other young cats kept him company.DMy friend begged me to take him home. 根据第二段的“Do you still want one of the kittens? The book tells the story of a 12yearold boy named Harrison, who survives life in a cruel foster home (寄养家庭) before he finally finds a loving family. Once he settles in and realizes his natural football ability, tragedy strikes again and he loses his leg because of a deadly bone cancer. Unstoppable follows Harrisons incredible journey as he faces many challenges in his life.Tim Green says he decided to write a novel about a kid facing cancer after watching how his wife fought to survive her own illness. “Her mental and physical toughness were more heroic to me than anything Id ever seen in the national sports leagues,” Green told TFK kid reporter Zachary J. Lewis. After watching his wifes battle, Green said, he knew he needed to write about a person who struggled through a serious illness. But because teenagers are the target for his books, he needed to tell the story through the eyes of a teenager. When friends introduced Jeffrey Keith to Green, Green knew he had found the right person to help him “capture the heroism that it takes to fight cancer”. Cancersurvivor Jeffrey Keith lost his leg because of disease at twelve, but went on to be the goalie (守门员) for the Boston College Division 1 Lacrosse (长曲棍球) Team and was also the first amputee (被截肢者) to run 3,300 miles across the country. When Green heard Jeffrey Keiths story, he knew it was the perfect narrative on which to base his next book.TFK asked Keith what it felt like to read Unstoppable for the first time. “Tim captured what it felt like for me to go through this experience and battle back,” Keith said. “After I read the book, Tim asked me to describe it in one word, and I said awesome. Tims book sends a message to all the kids across the country that are facing obstacles that can have nothing to do with cancer: you are all unstoppable, as long as you believe it.”语篇解读:本文讲述了作家Tim Green根据与癌症抗争的妻子和一位残疾运动员的故事创作了一部励志作品Unstoppable.5What happened to Harrison after he was adopted by a loving family?AHe became a goalie of a football team.BHe lost one leg in an accident.CHe was found to suffer from blood cancer.DHe realized he had talent for playing football.解析:选D细节理解题。根据第一段倒数第二句可知,Harrison被一家好心人收养后,发现了自己的足球天赋。故选D。后来,他得了骨癌,失去了一条腿,故B项错误。6Who inspires Tim Green to write the novel Unstoppable?AA boy named Harrison. Neville Bums has been bitten twelve times during his long work with the snakes, and uses all his experience to give lectures to people at the risk of meeting a snake unexpectedly.Australia is home to most of the worlds most deadly snakes. So Neville teaches them how to handle such close unexpected experience. He sets up an enclosed (封闭的) area and one by one he brings out four snakes so people can know the characteristics of each snake. First out of the bag is a Red Black Snake. He cant quite put his finger on it. Thats because the entire forefinger on his right hand was cut off after he was bitten. But that wasnt his worst experience. When he was 18, a Brown Snake hed been holding by the tail turned and bit him in the face. He was rushed to hospital, and he was saved from death. He says a Cobra Snake is perhaps the most dangerous but not the most poisonous. Its one of the most common snakes in Australia, and is the second most poisonous in the world. Several times during the show it bites the bag, which Neville waves in front of.Nevilles advice is to stay still if a snake is nearby, as most will only attack if they feel in danger. It had been placed there since my last visit, and that same day I pushed Miss Havisham in this chair (when she was tired of walking with her hand upon my shoulder) round her own room, and across the landing and round the other room, which, from that day on, became my regular job.As we began to be more used to one another, Miss Havisham talked more to me, and asked me such questions as what had I learnt and what was I going to be? I told her I was going to be apprenticed (做学徒) to Joe, my sisters husband; then I explained my knowing nothing and wanting to know everything, in the hope that she might offer some help. But, she did not; on the contrary, she seemed to prefer my being ignorant. Neither did she ever give me any money or anything but my daily dinner nor even mentioned that I should be paid for my services.Havishams daughter Estella was always about, and always let me in and out, but never told me I might kiss her again. Sometimes, she would coldly tolerate me; sometimes, she would be seemingly kind to me; sometimes, she would be quite familiar with me; sometimes, she would tell me energetically that she hated me. Miss Havisham would often ask me in a whisper, or when we were alone, “Does she grow prettier and prettier, Pip?” And when I said yes, Miss Havisham would seem to enjoy it greedily. Also, when we played at cards Miss Havisham would look on Estellas moods, whatever they were. And sometimes, when her moods were so many and so contradictory of one another that I was puzzled what to say or do, Miss Havisham would hold her tightly with great fondness, saying something quietly in her ear that sounded like “Break their hearts my pride and hope, break their hearts and have no mercy!”语篇解读:文章描述了Pip有规律地去Miss Havisham家去做工,并用轮椅推她,但是Havisham的女儿Estella对Pip态度是不确定的。Pip渴望改善这种状况。12What did Pip regularly do at Miss Havishams home?AHe placed the garden chair on the broad landing.BHe walked with Estellas hand upon his shoulder.CHe learned knowledge from Miss Havisham.DHe pushed Miss Havisham in the wheel chair.解析:选D细节理解题。根据第一段第二句可知我常用轮椅推着Miss Havisham。13What can we infer from the second paragraph?APip was excited to learn from Joe, his sisters husband.
