所自然具有的，而是可以通过母亲、儿子等家庭成员及其话语，或者某 些与父亲有联系的物体来体现。 论文的导论部分将介绍l j i 人对玻璃动物园的研究。 第一章将介绍英语文学作品中的“无父“ 传统。在这些作品中，父亲形象要么 是生理上的，例如哈姆雷特的父亲或者费恩的父亲，要么是精神层面的，比如英国 文化对美国文化的父权似的统治与影响： 第二章将具体分析父亲的地位和作用在玻璃动物园中是怎样得到体现的。 首先在温菲尔德家中，父亲的地位似乎随着他的离开而逐渐减弱或消失，因为母亲 一直竭力扮演好家长抚养儿女成长的角色，不管是从物质上还是精神上。但是这一 愿望的落空j 下是说明父亲作用的不可替代，她对丈夫的思念也是父亲这一角色重要 性的有力证明：其次母亲要求家中唯一的男子汉汤姆在努力工作，养家糊口之余， 还得替姐姐张罗婚事，过于严苛的要求使得汤姆倍感压力，最终踏上与父亲相同的 力，但是他们之间相互慰藉、相互依赖，仍然表达出作者对家庭的期盼与希冀。 玻璃动物园中父亲的离丌造成了温菲尔德一家在物质上和精神上的双重困 顿，父亲的离家出走所导致的混乱与苦难j 下是上帝被驱逐后西方社会人们的生存状 况的写照。家庭结构的变化，社会承诺的落空，都表达出田纳西对家庭，尤其是父 亲的失望之情，也暗藏着作家对家庭、对父亲的渴望之情。作者借此传递出对人类
