商务英语信函的衔接分析摘 要随着经济全球化的快速发展,商务英语信函在对外贸易中的作用越来越重要。如何写出一篇清晰得体的商务英语信函已成为商界与教育界共同关注的焦点。该研究从衔接的角度对商务英语信函进行分析,找出其特点,通过衔接手段使单个的语言条目(如词汇、短语、句子)形成一篇行文流畅、逻辑清晰的语篇;该研究还对衔接分析对商务英语信函写作教学的启示进行了探讨。衔接研究在中国发展很快,前人的研究扩大了衔接的范围,并使其向微观方向发展,但部分研究只注重理论应用,轻视理论反思。虽然前人对商务英语信函进行了多角度的研究,但其研究泛而不深。此外,前人研究很少将衔接与商务英语信函结合起来,因此,本文尝试从衔接的角度对商务信函进行研究。本文对商务英语信函的衔接进行了纽带的分析和主位推进分析。第一个研究纽带的分析运用韩礼德所提出的衔接分析方法,对所收集的120封商务英语信函中所出现的的照应、替代、省略、联结与词汇衔接等衔接方式进行统计分析;在此基础上,第二个研究从衔接到主位推进,运用主位推进理论对某一函件的主位推进过程进行了分析。衔接的分析旨在找出信函的衔接纽带,归纳核心衔接链;主位推进旨在找出每个句子的主位和述位,分析句子之间如何构成文本。以上研究表明商务英语信函多使用照应与词汇衔接,其中照应中的人称指代与词汇衔接中的搭配用得最多;还表明衔接可以实现篇章文本,衔接也可作为一种言说方式,一种交际方式。第二个研究从新的角度讨论衔接,是对衔接理论的反思,而非单纯的应用。教师在教授学生商务英语信函时,应注重引导学习者重视言辞之间的衔接关联,更应注意文本内部的主位推进,写出简洁流畅、条理清晰的信函。【关键词】:商务英语信函; 衔接分析; 写作;ABSTRCTWith the fast development of economic globalization, Business English correspondences play a more and more important role in foreign trade. How to write a clear appropriate business letter has become the focus of attention from business and educational communities. With this in mind, this thesis will analyze daily Business English correspondences to determine their cohesive features. It employs cohesive devices to organize single linguistic items (such as lexicons, phrases and sentences) into a clear, fluent and logical text, and also explores its implications for the teaching of Business English Correspondence writing.The studies of cohesion develop quickly in China, however, previous studies pay more attention to application, but less to a rethink of cohesion theory itself; the studies of Business English Correspondence have too broad scope, and lack further exploration from one specific aspect. Also, previous studies seldom combine cohesion and Business English Correspondence together, this thesis, therefore, will use cohesion to research Business English Correspondence.This thesis embraces two studies: the analysis of cohesive ties and the analysis from cohesion to the thematic progression in Business English correspondences. Adopting Hallidays cohesion analysis approach, the first study analyzes cohesion of reference, substitution, ellipsis, conjunction and lexical cohesion in 120 Business English correspondences and also obtains the statistics on the quantities of each cohesive device; based on the analysis of the cohesive ties, the second study also elaborates the thematic progression through employing the theory of the thematic progression, analyzes how the themes and rhemes progress in one sample correspondence. The analysis of cohesion is designed to discern and collect cohesive ties, and deduce core cohesive chains in business letters. The analysis of the thematic progression, through identifying theme and rheme of each clause, shows how clauses are related and connected with one another and develop into a text.The first study shows that in the five types of cohesive devices, Business English correspondences employ reference and lexical cohesion more often, especially pronominal references, collocations in their respective sub-classifications. The second study indicates cohesion is a way to construct a text, and is also a way of speaking and communicating. It is clear that the second study regards cohesion from a new perspective rethinking the cohesion theory itself, not just as a simple application of cohesion. When teaching Business English Correspondence, teachers should put special emphasis on guiding learners to pay attention to the cohesive relations to rhetoric, and more attention to the thematic progression within texts so as to enable learners to write suc
