How can one become a good language teacher? The most important and most difficult part of the making of a good language teacher is the development of professional competence, which is the quality of being qualified for the profession, and armed with a specific range of skills, strategies, knowledge and ability. Learning from ones own experiences as a learner The practice stage (2 senses) Pseudo practice: short period of time assigned to do teaching practice as part of ones pre-service education, usu. under the supervision of instructors The real classroom teaching: what a teacher undertakes after he/she finishes formal education The practice stage Teachers benefit from practice if they keep on reflecting on what they have been doing (Stanely, 1999) Teachers should reflect on their work not only after they finish a certain period of practice but while theyre doing the practice as well The most difficult thing is to keep on reflecting on ones work when one moves on to real classroom teaching 语言技能、语言知识、情感态度、学习策 略和文化意识之间的关系 英语语言运用能力涵盖多方面能力。综合语言运 用能力的形成建立在语言技能、语言知识、情感 态度、学习策略和文化意识等素养综合发展的基 础上。因此,中学英语的教与学应该在这五个方 面全面发展和提高学生的素养,而不能局限于我 们传统的教学重点语言知识和语言技能。语 言知识和语言技能是综合语言运用能力的基础. 语言知识是发展语言技能的重要基础。不管是听 、说、读、写这四项技能还是综合语言运用能力 的发展都离不开语言知识的支撑。 情感态度是影响学生学习和发展的重要因素,只有当学生具有正确的 英语学习动机、较强的自信心、坚强的意志、合作的精神、祖国意识 、国际视野等,他们才会积极、主动、全身心地投入到学习活动中去 ,坚持不懈地努力提升自己的能力,学习才会取得良好的效果,才会 对他们的终身发展产生积极影响。 学习策略是提高学习效率、发展自主学习能力的先决条件。帮助学生 学会制订适合自己的学习策略,不但能帮助他们提高学习效率,而且 能帮助他们树立自主学习的意识,养成自主学习的习惯,从而发展他 们的自主学习能力。同时,在制订、调整自己的学习策略和规划学习 的过程中,他们逐步学会规
