Then answer the questions or complete the statements in the fewest possible words. Phys ed (physical education) is making a comeback as a part of the school core curriculum(核心课程), but with a difference. While group sports are still part of the curriculum, the new way is to teach skills that are useful beyond gym class. Instead of learning how to climb a rope, children are taught to lift weights, balance their diets and build physical endurance. In this way, kids are given the tools and skills and experiences so they can lead a physically active life the rest of their life. Considering that 15 percent of American children 6 to 18 are overweight, supporters say more money and thought must be put into phys ed curriculum. In many cases, that may mean not just replacing the old gym-class model with fitness programs but also starting up phys ed programs because school boards often put P. E. on the chopping block, cutting it entirely or decreasing its teachers or the days it is offered, says Alicia Moag-Stahlberg, the executive director of Action for Health Kids. The difference in phys ed programs is partly due to the lack of a national standard. Physical education needs to be part of the core curriculum, she added. The wisdom of the new approach has some scientific support. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin have demonstrated how effective the fit-for-life model of gym class can be. They observed how 50 overweight children lost more weight when they cycled and skied cross-country than when they played sports. The researchers also found that teaching sports like football resulted in less overall movement, partly because reluctant students were able to sit on the bench. Another problem with simply teaching group sports in gym class is that only a tiny percentage of students continue playing them after graduating from high school. The new method teaches sells that translate to adulthood. (Note: Answer the questions or complete the statements in NO MORE THAN TEN WORDS. )81. In the new P. E. program, children learn to lift weights, balance their diets and build physical endurance rather than _. 82. As for P. E. , some school boards either _. 83. perfectly happy to eat alone because the computer and TV provide us with solitary entertainment.Perhaps unsurprisingly, half of the UKs singles eat a meal alone at least once a day.And even one in four mothers with families has dinner mostly by themselves according to a major report on eating trends and social change by the Future Foundation. However, eating alone doesnt seem to matter anymore if you can chat away on social networksin fact its now a both quick and entertaining affair.“Suppertainment” is the phrase created for the current major trend that reflects the number of people who eat in front of the computer,TV or game controller.Single men are the majority leading this trend, with 60 percent of them spending mealtimes entertaining themselves with something.However,40 percent of to suppertain comes naturally, especially when youve been busy all day.If Im on my own I always tend to make a quick and easy meal and settle down to watch something entertaining or Ill get on the Beans is a white dog可知,此处选B(dog)。2 C。 The sniffing and exploring was going well for him可知,Beans经常“探索(explore)”只有他才知道的某一原因,故选C。3 A。 A(车道)、C(十字路口)、D(公路)均不合语境。6 A。由后面的 take me home以及 I 47 that Beans probably knew all along how to get home可知,我突然意识到Beans很可能“知道(knew)”回家的路。 8 B。由第一段第二句 through untold miles of forest可知,此空该填B(forest)。9 A。 81. learning how to climb a rope. 82. cutting it entirely or decreasing its
