阅读理解A(2018湖南长沙高三模拟二)An egg sinks to the bottom if you drop it into a glass of ordinary drinking water but what happens if you add salt? The results are very interesting and can teach you some fun facts about density (密度)What youll need:*One egg *Water *Salt *A tall drinking glassInstructions:Pour water into the glass until it is about half full.Mix in lots of salt (about 6 tablespoons)Carefully pour in plain water until the glass is nearly full (be careful not to mix the salt water with the plain water)Gently lower the egg into the water and watch what happens.Whats happening?Salt water is denser than ordinary tap water. The denser the liquid is, the easier it is for an object to float in it. When you lower the egg into the liquid it drops through the normal tap water until it reaches the salt water, and at this point the water is dense enough for the egg to float. If you were careful when you added the tap water to the salt water, they would not mix, enabling the egg to amazingly float in the middle of the glass.【语篇解读】本文主要介绍了鸡蛋放入盐水中的实验过程。 If you were careful when you added the tap water to the salt water, they would not mix, enabling the egg to amazingly float in the middle of the glass. If引导条件状语从句;when引导时间状语从句;enabling the egg to amazingly float in the middle of the glass是现在分词短语作结果状语。 1Which of the following is the CORRECT order?Mix in lots of salt.Gently lower the egg into the water.Carefully pour in plain water until the glass is nearly full.Pour water into the glass until it is about half full. 根据第三部分的“Pour water into the glass until it is about half full”和“Gently lower the egg into the water and watch what happens”可知,往杯子里倒半杯水是第一个步骤,而轻轻把鸡蛋放进水里,观察结果是最后一个步骤,故选B。2What will happen if you drop an egg into a glass of water with about 6 tablespoons of salt?AIt will float in the water.BIt will sink to the bottom.CNothing will happen.DThe result is not known. 根据第四部分中的“The denser the liquid is, the easier it is for an object to float in it”和最后一句“If you were careful when you added the tap water to the salt water, they would not mix, enabling the egg to amazingly float in the middle of the glass”可推知,鸡蛋放入盐水里会浮起来。 A。3Why can the egg float in the water according to the passage?ABecause ordinary tap water is denser than salt water.BBecause ordinary tap water is as dense as salt water.CBecause the denser the liquid is, the easier it is for an object to float in it.DBecause the more the liquid there is, the easier it is for an object to float in it. 根据最后一部分中的“Salt water is denser than ordinary tap water. The denser the liquid is, the easier it is for an object to float in it”可知,液体的密度越大,物体越容易漂浮,而鸡蛋能够在盐水中浮起来是因为盐水的密度大,故选C。B(2018银川检测)Crossing your legs is an extremely common habit; most people dont even notice that theyre doing it when they sit down. While you may find it comfortable to sit with one knee crossed over the other, it might be causing health problems that you are not aware of.A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure. The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. This causes your body to increase your blood pressure to push the blood back to the heart. You wont feel any immediate effects, but repeated, drawnout increases in blood pressure can cause longterm health issues. So, planning to sit for a long period of time? Dont keep your legs crossed.“Crossing your legs at the knee can also cause pressure on the major nerve in your leg that passes just below your knee and along the outside of your leg,” explains Richard Graves, a medical expert. This pressure can cause numbness and temporary paralysis (麻痹) of some of the muscles in your foot and leg, preventing you from being able to raise your ankle what we know as that “pins_and_needles” sensation. While the feeling of discomfort may only last a minute or two, repeatedly crossing your legs until they feel numb can cause permanent nerve damage. So next time you sit down, try to get yourself in the habit of sitting with both of your feet on the floor. Not only will it help your posture and stability, but it will also save your health in the long run.【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。 The reason for this is that the blood in your legs has to work against gravity to be pumped back to your heart and that crossing one leg over the other increases resistance, making it even harder for the blood to circulate. 两个that引导的都是表语从句,making it. to circulate为现在分词短语作结果状语。 4What can we learn about crossing ones legs?AIt is a very bad social habit.BIt can do harm to peoples health.CIt is usually practiced deliberately.DIt can make others feel uncomfortable. 5According to the study, sitting with your legs crossed can _.Aaffect your blood pressureBresist gravity effectivelyClead to heart attacks easilyDimprove the function of legs答案与解析:A细节理解题。根据第二段第一句“A study published in Blood Pressure Monitoring stated that sitting with your legs crossed can increase your blood pressure”可知,一项研究表明跷二郎腿会让血压升高。故选A。6In the third paragraph “pins and needles” probably means _.Abeing highly flexible Bbeing a little tiredCserious muscle injuries Dslight sharp pains答案与解析:D考查词义猜测。 7What is the main purpose of the text?ATo compare common habits.BTo evaluate the effects of an experiment.CTo give readers some advice.DTo introduce research methods. C(2018河北石家庄高三复习教学质量检测一)Despite being used by 1.34 billion people each year, traveling on the Tube in London can actually be quite lonely. One citizen, however, is trying to change this. “You get on the Tube and its completely silent and its weird,” says Jonathan Dunne, who has started a worldwide dialogue after giving out badges (徽章) with the words “Tube chat?” last month, encouraging passengers in London to get talking to one another. “I handed out 500 badges during rush hour in a city of 8 million, expecting most of them to be thrown away, but after about 24 hours it completely snowballed,” he says. Dunne and his “Tube chat” campaign have since been reported by media across the world, seeing TV interviews in Sweden, Brazil and the UK, as well as countless website, newspaper and magazine appearances.Although Dunne says hes received mostly positive feedback, not everyone agrees with his idea. Londoner Brian Wilson responded with a campaign of his own, handing out 500 badges with the words “Dont even think about it” on them. Michael Robinson, 24, a student from London, agrees. “Being on the Tube is the only peace and quiet some people get on their journeys to and from work. It doesnt need to be spoiled by people coming up and chatting to you,” he says.“People assume that I just walk up and talk to strangers, which I dont, but its been a great way to meet people you would never have normally spoken to,” Dunne says.So if you ever end up using public transport in the West, why not say hello to the person next to you? Just make sure to check for a badge first.【语篇解读】每年乘坐伦敦地铁的乘客众多,可是人们仍然感到孤独;为此Jonathan Dunne发起了一个旨在鼓励乘客相互交谈的运动,此举引起了世界媒体的关注。 8How did Dunne encourage London passengers to talk with each other?ABy putting up posters on the tube.BBy advocating his idea on the media.CBy offering passengers special badges.DBy starting a dialogue with passengers. 根据第二段的“who has started a worldwide dialogue after giving out badges (徽章) with the words Tube chat?” 9How is Dunnes campaign getting along?AIt has caught international attention.BIt has become a worldwide campaign.CMost passengers have refused to accept it.DWilson has made great efforts to promote it. 根据第二段的“Tube chat campaign have since been reported by media across the world, seeing TV interviews in Sweden, Brazil and the UK, as well as countless website, newspaper and magazine appearances”可知,Dunne和他的“Tube chat”运动引起了世界各种媒体的关注,故A项正确。 10According to Michael Robinson, what should tube passengers do?AHand in their feedback in time.BWalk up and talk to strangers.CStop using public transport.DEnjoy the peace quietly. 根据第三段的“Being on the Tube is the only peace and quiet some people get on their journeys to and from work. It doesnt need to be spoiled by people coming up and chatting to you”可知,Michael Robinson认为乘伦敦地铁是人们上下班时享受安宁的时刻,而不是交谈的时刻,故D项正确。11What can be the best title for the text?ATube Chat or NotBLonely Travel in the London TubeCSilence on the TubeDTube Passengers wearing Badges答案与解析:A标题判断题。 D(2018河南开封一模)According to the Global Times, it is reported that two online videos showing children telling their parents “I love you” have gone viral in China. The first, filmed by an Anhui TV station, shows a number of college students telling their parents they love them. The responses are mixed. “Are you drunk?” asked one parent. In another similar video, shot by a Shanxi TV station, a father responded even less patiently “I am going to a meeting, so cut the crap.”Why dont Chinese families use those words? Theories revolve around the nature of Confucian teaching. “The parents responses show that many Chinese are not good at expressing positive emotions,” Xia Xueluan, a sociologist from Peking University, told the Global Times. “They are used to educating children with negative language.”This isnt the first time that China has done some soulsearching about familial love last year China Daily asked a crosssection of people if they said “I love you” to their parents, spouses, and children. “I have never said I love you to my family, and I dont think I will in the future,” one 56yearold man told the paper.“Saying it aloud is embarrassing for me.”Still, that doesnt mean that love cant be expressed. In a separate article, China Daily spoke to Zhao Mengmeng, a 31yearold woman who said she had never told her father she loved him facetoface (“I find it a bit odd”). Sometimes actions speak louder than words. Zhao gave her father a photo album featuring photographs of them together on almost every one of her birthdays in June 2012. The pictures went viral online, being forwarded hundreds of thousands of times on Weibo.“I didnt sleep the night I heard about it,” her father told China Daily after the story attracted mainstream attention. “I have now memorized some of the comments on the collection of pictures.” 12What can we infer from the text?AIt is not direct for Chinese families to say “I love you”BChinese parents are too proud to express “I love you”CChinese parents are good at expressing positive emotions.DYoung parents in China are willing to express “I love you”答案与解析:A推理判断题。 Saying it aloud is embarrassing for me.,下一段介绍了中国人对父母表达爱的特点:Sometimes actions speak louder than words.,即用行动而不是语言来向父母表达自己的爱,并列举事例进行证明。 故选A项。13Why dont Chinese parents express “I love you” to their children?ABecause they cant express it.BBecause they are not in the habit of expressing so.CBecause they think it unnecessary.DBecause they think it should be done only among young couples. 根据文章第三段中的“I have never said I love you to my family, and I dont think I will in the future,” one 56yearold man told the paper. “Saying it aloud is embarrassing for me.” 14Zhao Mengmeng expressed “I love you” to her father by _.Agiving him an album containing their photosBkissing her fathers face and telling him by wordsCspeaking it out bravely in a TV programDwriting out the three words in a letter答案与解析:A细节理解题。 Zhao gave her father a photo album featuring photographs of them together on almost every one of her birthdays. 故选A项。15Whats the authors attitude toward the statements about “I love you”?AOpposed. BObjective.CCritical. DIndifferent. opposed“反对的”,critical“批判的”,indifferent“漠不关心的”。.七选五(2018山东六校联考)A good training partner can be a great asset (有用的人) to your training but if you get stuck with a bad one, it could lead you down the road to frustration. _1_ Here are a few things to look out for:Dependable. Choose someone who you are sure will show up for every scheduled workout or who will call you if they cant make it. It is a drain (消耗) on your valuable energy especially before training to have to constantly remind your partner.Attitude. Get a partner with a positive attitude. This is very important. If they constantly say that something is impossible or that they cant or you cant do something, you may end up believing them. _2_Open mind. Get a partner with an open mind. Get someone you feel comfortable with spotting you. One of the main roles of a training partner is spotting and if you dont trust them, theres not much point i
