Are you committed to undertaking this position of service and responsibility?Council: I amBishop:Are you willing to provide your time and expertise to considering issues that impact upon the evangelizing thrust of the Catholic school within the context of the mission of the Church, and to provide me with honest and appropriate advice? Council: I amBishop: Are you willing to provide your time and expertise to considering issues that impact upon Religious Education, learning and teaching, strategic planning and the resourcing of Catholic schools, and to provide me with honest and appropriate advice? Let us ask him to bless those who are called to be members of the Diocesan Schools Council and to guide them in all of their discernment and decision-making.All:Lord hear our prayerThe Bishop now presents each member of the Diocesan Schools Council with a plaque as the choir sings verse 2 of “The God of All Eternity”.New Principals are Called New Principals are called forward by the Director of Schools and presented to the Bishop. Bishop:My dear friends in Christ,You are called by the Catholic Community in the Diocese of Wollongong to a leadership position as Principal of a Catholic School. Are you committed to undertaking this ministry?Principals: I am.Bishop:Are you committed to giving witness to a Catholic vision of education, which is responsive to the evangelising mission of the Church?Principals: I am.Bishop:Are you committed to a leadership of service to all members of the school community, conscious of the integral partnership between home, school and parish?Principals: I am.Bishop:Are you committed to nurturing a community centred in Christ where the dignity of each human person is safeguarded and where quality Catholic learning and teaching is promoted.Principals: I am.Bishop: God is the source of all wisdom and knowledge. Are you committed to undertaking this ministry?Teachers:I am.Bishop:Are you willing to take up your task in Catholic Education with enthusiasm and a willingness to witness to Gospel values?Teachers:I am.Bishop:Are you committed to a ministry of service to the students in your care?Teachers: I am.Bishop: God is the source of all wisdom and knowledge. Let us ask him to bless those who are called to be teachers in Catholic schools and to guide them as they commence their vocation.All:Lord hear our prayerThe Bishop now presents the beginning teachers with the book, “Lay Catholics in Schools: Witnesses To Faith” as the choir sings verse 4 of “The God of All Eternity”.Bishop:Lord our God,In your wisdom and love you surround us with the mysteries of the universe. In times long past you sent us your prophets to teach your laws and to bear witness to your undying love. You sent us your Son to teach us by your word and example that true wisdom comes from you alone.Send your Holy Spirit upon the members of the Diocesan Schools Council, the new Principals and the beginning teachers, and fill them with your wisdom and blessings. Grant this through Christ Our Lord. Amen.The choir now sings verse 5 of “The God of All Eternity”.PRAYERS OF INTERCESSIONBishop: Gods Word has been broken for us and nourishes us in our Faith journey. We now call to mind the needs of our community as we turn to the Lord in prayer.1. We pray for all leaders in our Church, particularly our Bishop, Peter, and pray that their leadership will be wise and inspired by the Holy Spirit. We pray to the Lord.Response: Lord hear our prayer.2. We pray for the leaders of nations throughout the world today and pray that they will make decisions that protect the dignity of all people and safeguard peace and justice in our world. We pray to the Lord. R3. We pray for the Catholic school communities in the diocese of Wollongong and pray that they will continue to be places of faith, hope and love, ensuring that the truth of the Gospel is proclaimed loud and clear. We pray to the Lord. R4. We pray for the newly commissioned Diocesan Schools Council, new Principals and beginning teachers and pray that they will be enthusiastic models of the Gospel through their words and deeds. We pray to the Lord. R5. We pray for the sick and lonely in our community and pray that their suffering and isolation will be consoled by the love and mercy of God. We pray to the Lord. R6. We pray for those who have died and those who are mourning in our community and pray that everlasting life and peace will be theirs. We pray to the Lord. RBishop: Loving God, listen to the prayers of all of us gathered here today, that we may be strengthened in the work we undertake in your name. We ask this through Jesus Christ Our Lord.
