The opening ceremony, an indispensable and crucial component in the whole procedures of the Olympic Games, serves as a unique stage for the host to introduce its distinctive native culture to the whole world and thus becomes a typical example as a visual intercultural communication text to be observed and analyzed. Based on the example of the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games, this paper will mainly focus on the cultural elements, which indicate the core values of traditional Chinese cultures, reflected in the performance, and the communicative strategies adopted to convey them.
