One famous recent application of graphical signal processing is on the LDPC (Low Density Parity Check) code, which virtually pushes the channel capacity to the Shannon limit. Inspired by the huge success of the LDPC codes in the field of error control coding, in this talk, we propose transforming the different communication scheduling problems into an LDPC-like problem using a graph and the sum-product algorithm. These communication scheduling problems we consider in this talk including: 1) the mutiuser scheduling problem in a MIMO-based (Multiple-input multiple-output) wireless communication system, and 2) the satellite broadcast scheduling problem for low-altitude satellite communication systems. In the first problem, we propose a low complexity algorithmic framework for solving the mutiuser MIMO scheduling problem based on the recent modeling and computational methodology of normal graphs and the sum-product algorithm. Based on the proposed normal graph framework, the soft information, which indicates the probability that each user will be scheduled to transmit packets at the access point through which angle-frequency sub-channel, is exchanged among the local processors to iteratively optimize the multiuser transmission schedule.In the second problem, we employ another graph, called factor graph, works together with the sum-product algorithm for solving the satellite broadcast scheduling (SBS) problem for low-altitude satellite communication systems. In this problem, we propose transforming the SBS problem into an LDPC-like problem using a factor graph instead of the conventional neural network approaches to solve the SBS problem. Based on a factor graph framework, the soft information, which describes the probability that each satellite will broadcast information to a terminal at a specific time slot, is exchanged among the local processors in the proposed framework via the sum-product algorithm to iteratively optimize the satellite broadcasting schedule.BiographyJung-Chieh Chen received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Tatung Institute of Technology, Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C., the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the National Chung Cheng University, Chiayi, Taiwan, R.O.C., and the Ph.D. degree in communications engineering from the National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, R.O.C. Since August 2005, he has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Optoelectronics and Communication Engineering, National Kaohsiung Normal University, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, R.O.C.
