And you also dont know what its like for older people to travel until you accompany one on a trip. After flying with my elderly father from Washington, D.C. to L.A. in July, I began to realize that a companion has important tasks that can make a journey easier for older people. I booked nonstop tickets on JetBlue to avoid tiring, confusing connections, and we flew directly into small, manageable Long Beach Airport. Even though my father could walk, I arranged with the airline for wheelchair assistance, which meant we got on board first. When I took him back to the airport for his return flight to Washington, I got permission from JetBlue to wait with him at the gate instead of saying goodbye at the security checkpoint. I wished hed had a first-class seat and access to a comfortable airline club. Better yet, I wish I had flown with him both ways. As I watched the attendant wheel him to the lift that took him from the tarmac(飞机跑道)to the plane, I felt like an anxious mom sending her child to school for the first time.Things can go awry on a plane trip. And then there is the horrifying story about Joe and Margie. When they landed at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, a wheelchair attendant met them to help with a connection. But somehow Margie, who had Alzheimers disease, disappeared.I didnt need to worry about my father wandering away; at 82, his mind was sharper than mine. But his hearing was poor, so I worried about what would happen if he missed an important announcement. Fortunately, everything went just fine. Careful planning made the trip successful.Next time I travel with a senior, Ill know better. I hope there will be a next time.24. Why did the man buy nonstop tickets?A. His father was tired of flights.B. He had important tasks to do.C. He cared about his father.D. His schedule was tight.25. How did the author feel when seeing his father off?A. Disappointed. B. Delighted. C. Worried. D. Sad.26. What can we learn from the passage?A. Taking a trip does great good to seniors.B. It is a pleasant experience to travel with seniors.C. To have a long journey with seniors is unpractical.D. A good arrangement ensures seniors to take a nice trip.CBy trying to tickle(挠痒痒) rats and recording how their nerve cells respond, Shimpei Ishiyama and his adviser are discovering a mystery that has puzzled thinkers since Aristotle expected that humans, given their thin skin and unique ability to laugh, were the only ticklish animals. It turns out that Aristotle was wrong. In their study published on Thursday, Ishiyama and his adviser Michael Brecht found that rats squeaked and jumped with pleasure when tickled on their backs and bellies. These signs of joy changed according to their moods. And for the first time, they discovered a special group of nerve cells. These nerve cells made this feeling so powerful that it causes an individual being tickled to lose control. To make sure that he had indeed found a place in the brain where tickling was processed, Ishiyama then stimulated that area with electrical currents. The rats began to jump like rabbits and sing like birds.“Its truly ground-breaking,” said Jeffrey Burgdorf, a neuroscientist at Northwestern University who reviewed the paper. “It takes the study of emotion to a new level.”Burgdorf has played a central role in our understanding of animal tickling. He was part of a team that first noticed, in the late 1990s, that rats made special noises when they were experiencing social pleasure. Others had already noted that rats repeatedly made short and high sounds during meals. But the lab where Burgdorf worked noticed that they emitted similar sounds while playing. And so one day, the senior scientist in the lab said, “Lets go and tickle some rats.” They quickly found that those cries of pleasure doubled.“The authors have been very adventurous,” said Daniel OConnor, a neuroscientist(神经系统科学家) at Johns Hopkins University who studies touch. To him, that finding was very surprising.“Why does the world literally feel different when you are stressed out?” he said. “This is the first step towards answering that question. It gives us a way to approach it with experimental rigor(严谨).”27. What contributed to humans being ticklish(易痒的) according to Aristotle?A. Their special skin.B. Their social pleasure.C. Their nervous system.D. Their willingness to touch.28. Why did the researchers make use of electrical currents?A. To discover the special group of nerve cells.B. To experiment on different animals.C. To follow the process of tickling.D. To prove their finding.29. Which of the following statements will Jeffrey Burgdorf agree with?A. The research process is full of risks.B. The finding of the study is surprising and unbelievable.C. The new discovery is beneficial for the study of emotion.D. The finding of the study actually contradicts modern science.30. What is the best title for the text?A. The Life of RatsB. How Rats LaughC. A Wonderful ScientistD.
