To discuss the topics about the movie. .Teaching ProceduresStep One: Listen to This(I)Vocabulary 1. speculation: noun C or U, when you guess possible answers to a question without having enough information to be certain: eg. Rumours that they are about to marry have been dismissed as pure speculation. Speculation about his future plans is rife. 2. avalanche: noun C1) a large amount of ice, snow and rock falling quickly down the side of a mountain2 )the sudden arrival of too many things:3. shatter: verb, I or T to (cause something to) break suddenly into very small pieces: eg. The glass shattered into a thousand tiny pieces. His leg was shattered in the accident.4. cable: noun C or U, a wire, covered by plastic, that carries electricity, telephone signals, etc: eg. a length of cable The road has been dug up in order to lay cables5. ambush: verb T, to suddenly attack a person or a group of people after hiding and waiting for them: eg. Five soldiers died after their bus was ambushed on a country road. He was ambushed by gunmen on his way to work.6. ram: verb I or T -mm- , to hit or push something with force:eg. Someone rammed (into) my car while it was parked outside my house. He rammed the sweets/his pipe into his mouth. 7. mask: noun C, a covering for all or part of the face which protects, hides or decorates the person wearing it: eg. a gas mask a surgical mask 8. impact: noun C usually singular; U1) the force or action of one object hitting another: eg. The impact of the crash reduced the car to a third of its original length. The bullet explodes on impact (= when it hits another object).2)a powerful effect that something, especially something new, has on a situation or person: eg. The anti-smoking campaign had had/made quite an impact on young people. The new proposals were intended to soften the impact of the reformed tax system.9. opponent: noun C1) a person who disagrees with something and speaks against it or tries to change it: eg. a political opponent Leading opponents of the proposed cuts in defence spending will meet later today.2) a person being competed against in a sports event: eg. In the second game, her opponent hurt her leg and had to retire.10. formula: noun plural formulas or formulae, C a standard or accepted way of doing or making something, the items needed for it, or a mathematical rule expressed in a set of numbers and letters: eg. We have changed the formula of the washing powder. We had to learn chemical formulae at school, but I can only remember H2O for water.11. negotiation: noun C or U, the process of discussing something with someone in order to reach an agreement with them, or the discussions themselves: eg. The agreement was reached after a series of difficult negotiations. The exact details of the agreement are still under negotiation.12. formula: noun plural formulas or formulae, C a standard or accepted way of doing or making something, the items needed for it, or a mathematical rule expressed in a set of numbers and letters:eg. Please dont disturb Georgina - shes trying to do her homework.13. rival: noun C, a person, group, etc. competing with others for the same thing or in the same area: eg. He beat his closest/nearest rival by 20 marks. 14. bearded: adjective, with a beard:15. razor: noun C, a small device with a sharp blade for removing hair, especially from the face or legs: 16. circus: noun, C or S a group of traveling entertainers including acrobats (= people skilled in difficult physical movements), or those who work with trained animals, or a performance by such people usually in a large tent: eg. She ran away to join the circus. 17. scout: noun C, a person, especially a soldier, sent out to get information about where the enemy are and what they are doing18.gape: verb I , to look in great surprise at someone or something, especially with an open mouth: eg. They stood gaping at the pig in the kitchen.19. youngster: noun C, a young person, usually an older child20. berk: noun C UK SLANG, a stupid person21. barman: noun C MAINLY UK, a man who serves drinks in a bar22. Clergyman: noun C, a man who is a member of the clergy 23. compliment: noun1) C a remark that expresses approval, admiration or respect: eg. She complained that her husband never paid her any compliments any more. I take it as a compliment (= I am pleased) when people say I look like my mother. Are you fishing for (= trying to get) compliments?2) S an action which expresses approval or respect: eg. You should take it as a compliment when I fall asleep in your company - it means Im relaxed. Thank you so much for your help - I hope one day Ill be able to return/repay the compliment (= do something good for you).24. superficial: adjective DISAPPROVING, (of a person) never thinking about things that are serious or important eg. Hes fun to be with, but hes very superficial.25. non-existent: adjective , describes something that does not exist or is not present in a particular place: eg. Government funding of alternative health care is virtually non-existent.(II) Cultural NotesCalifornia: a state on the Pacific coast of the U.S.A. Its capital is Sacramento. Los Angeles and San Francisco are its two major cities. The state is very well-known partly because of the Gold Rush in 1849, when hundreds and thousands of immigrants went there to search for gold.(III) Training Focus1. Ask the students to get the needed information; then the students should finish the exercises in the book.2. Train the students abilities in note-taking and filling the missing words.(IV) Consolidation Difficult Sentences1.
