However, whether you are on the mountains, in the waves, or on the grassland, you should be aware that your sport of choice might have great influence on the environment. Some sports are resource-hungry. Golf, as you may know, eats up not only large areas of countryside, but also tons of water. Besides, all sorts of chemicals and huge amounts of energy are used to keep its courses(球场)in good condition. This causes major environmental effects. For example, in the dry regions of Portugal and Spain, golf is often held responsible for serious water shortage in some local areas. There are many environment-friendly sports. Power walking is one of them that you could take up today. You dont need any special equipment except a good pair of shoes; and you dont have to worry about resources and your purse. Simple and free, power walking can also keep you fit. If you walk regularly, it will be good for your heart and bones. Experts say that 20 minutes of power walking daily can make you feel less anxious, sleep well and have better weight control.Whatever sport you take up, you can make it greener by using environment-friendly equipment and buying products made from recycled materials. But the final goal should be “green gyms”. They are better replacements for traditional health clubs and modern sports centers. Members of green gyms play sports outdoors, in the countryside or other open spaces. There is no special requirement for you to start your membership. And best of all, its free.21. Which of the following is the author most probably in favor of ?A. Working out in a gym. B. Cycling in a mountain.C. Swimming in a sports centre D. Playing golf in the countryside.22. The author uses power walking as an example mainly because _.A. it is free B. it benefits our healthC. it gets people close to the nature D. it is resource-saving23. The author writes the passage to _.A. show us the harm sports do to peopleB. encourage us to go in for green sportsC. suggest taking up more sports to keep fitD. promote some environment-friendly sportsBOrganic food, grown without artificial chemicals, is increasingly popular nowadays. Consumers have been willing to pay up to twice as much for goods with organic labels (标签). However, if you think paying a little more for organic food gets you a more nutritious and safer product, then youd better save your money. A study led by researchers at Stanford University says that organic products arent necessarily more nutritious, and theyre no less likely to suffer from disease-causing bacteria, either. For their new study, Smith-Spangler and her colleagues conducted a review of two categories(种类)of research, including 17 studies that compared health outcomes between consumers of organic against traditional food products, and 223 studies that analyzed the nutritional content of the foods, including key vitamins, minerals and fats. While the researchers found little difference in nutritional content, they did find that organic fruit and vegetables were 20% less likely to have chemicals remaining on the surfaces. Neither organic nor traditional foods showed levels of chemicals high enough to go beyond food safety standards. And both organic and traditional meats, such as chicken and pork, were equally likely to be harmed by bacteria at very low rates. The researchers did find that organic milk and chicken contained higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids, a healthy fat also found in fish that can reduce the risk of heart disease. However, these nutritional differences were too small, and the researchers were unwilling to make much of them until further studies confirm the trends.Organic food is produced with fewer chemicals and more natural-growing practices, but that doesnt always translate into a more nutritious or healthier product. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) states that whether you buy organic or not, finding the freshest foods available may have the biggest effect on taste. Fresh food is at least as good as anything marketed as organic.24. What does the underlined sentence in the first paragraph mean?A. Organic food helps you save money.B. Organic food contains much more nutrients.C. Organic food is worth the high price.D. Organic food is not always nutritious.25. Smith-Spangler and her colleagues found that _.A. organic food could reduce the risk of heart diseaseB. traditional food was grown with more natural methodsC. both organic and traditional food they examined were safeD. there was not a presence of any forms of bacteria in organic food26. What is the authors attitude toward organic food?A. Doubtful B. UnconcernedC. Positive D. SupportiveCIve never been the kind of person to say, “its the thought that counts” when it comes to gifts. That was until a couple of weeks ago, when my kids gave me a present that blew me away. For years now, Ive been wanting to sell our home, the place where my husband and I raised our kids. But to me, this house is much more than just a building. In the front room, theres a wall that has hundreds of pencil lines, marking the progress of my childrens growth. Every growth stage is marked in grey, with each childs name and the date they were measured. Most people I know have been featured on a wall like this, or at least had a wall like it in their home.Of all the objects and all the memories, its this one thing in a home thats the hardest to leave behind. Friends I know have returned home after work only to discover their wall of heights has been freshly painted over. A new paint job wouldnt normally be greeted by tears, but erasing that evidence of motherhood hurts more than it should. Our kids grow in so many ways, but the wall is physical evidence of their progress, right there for everyone to see.Over the years, Ive talked about how much I would hate leaving that wall behind when I moved, even though the last marks were made 10 years ago when my kids stopped growing. So one day, while I was at work, my children decided to do something about it.They hired Jacquie Manning, a professional photographer whose work is about capturing (捕捉) the beautiful things in life, from clear lakes and skies to diamonds and ballgowns. She came to our house while I was at work, and over several hours, took photos of the hundreds of drawings and lines, little grey fingerprints, and old marks. Somehow, she managed to photograph all those years of memories perfectly. Afterwards, she put all the photos together into one image, transforming them into a beautiful history of my family.Three weeks later, my childrens wonderful gift made its way to me a life-size photo of the pencil lines and fingerprints that represents entire lifetimes of love and growth.27. The author used her friends example in Paragraph 3 to_.A. persuade her family to leave the wall as it wasB. stress the meaning of keeping good memoriesC. explain why her house badly needed a new paint jobD. share her memory of motherhood with readers28. According to the article, it was Jacquie Manning who _.A. helped the author paint her new houseB. came up with the idea of the photo giftC. shot pictures to record the authors growth stageD. made a copy of the growth marks on the wall29. We can infer from the article that the author_.A. was strongly against selling their homeB. was not happy with the gift from her familyC. kept marks for family members every yearD. put great love and care in raising her children30. What is the best title for the text?A. A Gift Made with LoveB. Advice on Picking up Gifts for ParentsC. Paintings CountD.
