Motivational Letter“Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen, we are phoenix consulting team. Its our pleasure to present our strategic solution on your company”It is the setting of the third 3-hours round robin round of John Molson Undergraduate Business Case Competition (JMUCC) which was held by the Canadian well-known John Molson Business School. We were requested to analyze a real world business case in a closed environment with only two wireless laptops. Once the 3 hours preparation was completed, we presented our strategic solutions immediately to a panel of corporate executives using the knowledge and experience acquired from our curriculums and experience. As the team leader and the strategic constitutor of case study, not only I need equipped myself with comprehensive and systematic business knowledge but also the strong resist pressure ability and leadership skills to adopt to the intensive week-long challenge and unpredictable cases. We won over University of British Columbia team with a score of 8:3 in the 3 round-robin, with our high feasibility proposal and an excellent presentation, which has won great acclaim from the judges.2 Month later, I was selected as representatives again to participated in the “Ivey Coca-Cola Cup Chinas Business Case Competition” which was co-organized by Richard Ivey School of Business and the Coca-Cola Beverages Ltd. Through intense internal trials, regional semifinals, national final, our team led to the national top three and won the award of “Best Q&A Team” stand out from 2,000 college students, composing of more than 500 teams across the country. After involved into those case competitions, I even became an assistant and monitor of the case study class, helping my professors to train new teammates and other organisations like Shantou University SIFE team with the business models and case analysis skills I collected, analyzed and summarized. I was also won the “Prize of Prominent Contributions in Academic”one of the only six of the entire school.My thoughts bring back memories, memories from months ago and took place in competition selections. Because of my investation of the “why” and “how” of money and society, I was selected to participate in Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge (HKSEC), a business plan competition to help turning creative business ideas into meaningful and sustainable commercial ventures that promote social good. However, at the same time I was not selected to participate in JMUCC because my English was not good as other candidates. My heart became clouded. The reality of not be selected crushed me. However, the science that followed was alarming, for in the next few seconds, I discovered my current focus: living out my passions. Success is not built by what you have now, but by passion, by dream, by what you will have. I finally decided to send e-mails to three advisors and explained my determination and strengths. Friends around me worried about whether it works, but for me, I had to do it, otherwise I would be regret. Two days latter, I was informed that I was in! This was not the only experience that strength my faith of never giving up, but this was one of the biggest turning point of my university life, I began to thought what can I contribute to both two competitions. Therefore, in the next two months, at least three cases were analyzed, classified and summarized every week, and at least 2 hours more than others were spent to practice English every day. At the same time, My HKSEC teammates and I designed questionnaires and invested farmer workers and officers, what we wanted was to think out of the box, by using innovative technologies and systems to develop sustainable social enterprises that generate revenue while promoting social good. After thoroughly researching possible social demands and feasibility, we found that farm workers who lived in poor socio-economic environment have a high expectation of changing the fate of entrepreneurship. The matter obviously becomes a social issue and an economic concern. Through calculation, discussion and brainstorming, we decided to initiate the “Future Enterpriser Training Centre” program，which focus on providing enterprise training for farmer workers of Shantou. On Feb. 6, 2010, we participated in the final of the 2009 Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge with our specialized and complete business plan, as the speaker, I shared our ideas and demonstrated the feasibility, financially sustainable and social good we promote, after the intense competition，we won the only prize for invited teams “The Best Invitation Team” and attracted a social enterprise who showed a great interest in our program. 20 days later, I flighted to Canada to participate in JMUCC like previously mentioned.Life is the cumulative sum of decisions. The decisions we made, the perspectives we had changed our life. In the past three years, I was always asked myself, what is my role in society? I dont want to be the person who just to meet the university requirement, I want to follow my hearts and passion. I dont want to be the person who just changes my life, I want to influence others. For me, joining the civil service is not generally considered a track like any other, but a decision to devote my life to the public interest. My decision is to be a public intellectual, and what I did in university just toward this end.I participated in the volunteer team immediately when I enrolled in Shantou University. As a leader of the volunteer team, I divided more than 100 volunteers into three groups and served 3 communities every weekend on rotation basis. It was a precious experience of communicating with elderly people, celebrating festivals for deaf-mute child. At the same time, we cooperated with Shantou Municipal Bureau and carried on a civilization propaganda advising in the main street. We called for more than fifty volunteers went out into the street to improve the environmental awareness of citizens by promoting environmental-protection knowledge and popularizing the environmental-protection consciousness.
