You might see Americans treat their pets like they treat their children, sometimes even better. The most common pets in the US are dogs, cats, birds and fish. Pets, such as dogs and cats, make good companions. But in addition to providing good companionship, pets are useful too. For example, dogs guard property, heard cattle and sheep, and lead the blind.Monkeys, unusual pets in the US, will soon become useful pets for disabled persons.Scientists are now training monkeys to help disabled persons do some simple tasks, such as eating, cleaning the house and even changing the channel on the TV set. AHere are some music festivals that you might be interested in.BoogieTallarook, VIC (2628 March)Boogie is definitely kidfriendly, but with a few rules.Kids are welcome, but need to be fully supervised (监督) at all times and out of the licensed area by 10 pm.Kids under 8 years old are admitted for free.Kids between 8 and 16 get in cheaper. There are some activities for kids and a great kidfriendly area.Splendour in the GrassByron Bay, NSW (2426 July)Look, Splendour can be pretty crazy, so if you and your kids are out of practice with handling festivals and the stress they can sometimes bring, maybe you should try starting smaller. But if you feel like you can do it, then your kids are welcome to hit Splendour with you.The usual rules apply youll need to have them with you at all times if they are under 16 and they cant go into bars.If the child is under 11, then they will get in for free. The Gum BallHunter Valley, NSW (2224 April)We didnt originally include the Gum Ball because they took last year off and we wanted to make sure they were definitely returning. Not because we have anything against them.On the contrary, they are one event that manages to balance brilliant music and a familyfriendly vibe (氛围)Bellingen TurtlefestBellingen (30 September2 October)Great music for a great cause.Bellingen Turtlefest has been set up to raise funds and awareness for the critically endangered Bellinger River Snapping Turtle, while giving families a chance to enjoy some great music at the same time.Theres a kidzone, sideshows, workshops and markets, but also an education centre and some guest speakers so that the kids (and you) can learn a thing or two while youre at the event.21If a 10yearold goes to Boogie, he/she _.Adoesnt have to pay for admissionBmust stay with an adult all the timeCmust leave the licensed area by 11 pmDcannot find a great kidfriendly area there解析:选B细节理解题。由Boogie部分中的“Kids are welcome, but need to be fully supervised at all times and out of the licensed area by 10 pm.” 22Which of the following festivals failed to be included in the beginning?ABoogie.BSplendour in the Grass.CThe Gum Ball. You simply want someone to understand your situation, and sad songs do just that.Listening to sad songs during times of sadness is similar to having a friend who will understand all your emotions. The feelings you were unable to explain to your near and dear ones were easily put to words by these songs.Additionally, when you sit quietly with your earphones plugged in, listening to sad music, you may feel tears rolling down your face.Once youre done with releasing all these emotions, youll feel better. In summary, sad songs, contrary to the popular belief, help in curing a broken heart.Even if you arent in such a depressing situation, youll still enjoy listening to these songs.Sad songs have a comforting rhythm and tone, which help you relax. You, in fact, appreciate the efforts of the singers who lend their voice to these songs.Even though the emotions in these songs may be of the sad type, the calmness in them surely relaxes you. 25What do most people tend to think of sad music?AThey are boring. DThey are inspiring. 由第一段“The most common advice we receive when were depressed or sad is NOT to listen to sad songs. The reason is that sad songs will make us think of our pain, and we feel more depressed.” 26What music should you listen to in order to improve your mood in Dr.Stephen Palmers opinion?ASongs matching your emotions.BSongs sounding beautiful.CYour favorite songs.DHappy songs. 由第二段“.if exposed to music thats in line with our current emotions, we feel an instant connection with it.The connection helps us come out of our situation better than taking advice from a friend.” 27Why can sad songs make us feel better?AThey remind us of good times.BThey release our negative emotions.CThey keep our bad feelings in control.DThey take our attention away from worries. 由第三段“.you may feel tears rolling down your face.Once youre done with releasing all these emotions, youll feel better.” 28What is stressed about sad music in the last paragraph?AWhen it should be enjoyed.BHow it should be chosen.CWhat effects it has on us.DWhy it can work for us. CIll never forget a bright January morning when I landed in San Francisco from Santa Barbara, just in time to see my connecting flight to Osaka take off.I hurried to the nearest airline counter to ask for help, and was told that Id have to wait 24 hours, at my own expense, for the next days flight. The airline wasnt responsible for fogrelated delays, a gate agent declared.Millbrae, California, the drivethrough town surrounding San Franciscos airport, is known as a place to fly away from, at high speed. An unexpected delay is what nobody wants on his trip. But what I found, as I reserved a room at an airport hotel, and walked out into the winter sun, was that nowhere can have grace notes that anywhere would envy.It was a cloudless, warm afternoon as a bus deposited me in Millbrae.Locals were taking their dogs for walks along the bay while couples wandered hand in hand beside a square of blue.I checked in to my hotel and registered (注意到) another advantage of nowhere: Nobody knew I was here, and there was nothing I had to do.So I ordered a salad from room service and then noticed that The American, a movie Id longed to see, was available on TV.After the movie, I went for a walk and down the road, finding myself caught up in the last dramatic seconds of a football playoff game on a giant screen.Heart still pounding as the players rushed around the field, I stepped out again, walked along the water, and saw yellow arrows pointing to the finest burgers in the West.My dinner at InNOut cost me all of $4.27.And as I made my way back to my hotel, lights began to come on in the hills, and I realized Id never seen a sight half so lovely in noisy Osaka. If my trip had gone according to plan, Id have missed all of these blessings!29What do we know about the flight delay from the first paragraph?AIt was something the airline paid for.BIt was a welcome event to passengers.CIt was caused by mechanical errors.DIt increased passengers spending. 由第一段中的“Id have to wait 24 hours, at my own expense, for the next days flight. The airline wasnt responsible for fogrelated delays, a gate agent declared.” 30What might the lifestyle of the local people in Millbrae be like?ASlow. BInactive.CNoisy. DStressful. 由第三段中的“Locals were taking their dogs for walks along the bay while couples wandered hand in hand beside a square of blue.” 31Which of the following can be the best title for the text?AAn adventurous hike in a townBThe joys of an unexpected tripCA challenging but joyful flightDAn annoying fogrelated delay解析:选B标题归纳题。 DDo you fear criticism? If you do, you may want to avoid it.But there will always be those who criticize.Too much or too little, they will never be satisfied.Sometimes, even your friends get
