Module 1 Basketball (建议用时:30分钟) 阅读理解A(2019福州八县/市一中联考)If a city wants to hold the Olympics, it must submit a proposal to the IOC. After all proposals have been submitted, the IOC votes. If no city with the fewest votes is eliminated(淘汰),the voting continues, until a majority winner is determined. Typically, the Games are awarded several years in advance, allowing the winning city time to prepare for the Games. In selecting the site of the Olympic Games, the IOC considers a number of factors, and chiefly among them is which organizing committee seems most likely to stage the Games effectively. The IOC also considers which parts of the world have not yet hosted the Games. For instance, Tokyo, the host of the 1964 Summer Games, and Beijing, that of the 2008 Games, were chosen in part to popularize the Olympic movement in Asia. Because of the growing importance of television worldwide, the IOC in recent years has also taken into account the host citys time zone. Whenever the Games take place in the US.A or Canada, for example, American television networks are willing to pay specially higher amounts for television rights because they can broadcast popular events live in the best viewing hours.Once the Games have been awarded, it is the duty of the local organizing committeenot the IOC or the NOC of the host citys country to provide them with money. This is often done with a part of the Olympic television revenues(收入),and corporate sponsorships, tickets sales, and other smaller revenue sources. In many cases there is also direct government support. Although many cities have gained amounts of money by hosting the Games, the Olympics can be financially risky. If the financial gains from the Games are less than expected, the city will be left with large debts.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了申办奥运会的流程。1 will be determined to host the Olympic Games by the IOC.AA city that submits a proposalBA majority winner in votingCA city that has perfect time zoneDOne that hasnt hosted the GamesB解析:细节理解题。 2If the Games take place in Canada, American television networks Awill not pay for the Canadian television networksBwill be forbidden to broadcast live sporting eventsCcant broadcast popular events live in the best viewing hoursDare willing to pay much higher amounts for television rightsD解析:细节理解题。根据第二段最后一句“Whenever the Games take place in the US.A or Canada. because they can broadcast popular events live in the best viewing hours.” 3According to the last paragraph, which of the following statement is TRUE?AThe host city must be left with large debts.BThere is no financial risk in hosting the Olympic Games.CThe host city may gain a lot of money.DIt is impossible that the host city couldnt make money.C解析:推理判断题。 4Which of the following can be the best title of this passage?AWinner or LoserBApplying for Host for the OlympicsCHow to Host the Olympic GamesDThe Olympic GamesB解析:标题归纳题。 B(2019襄阳、荆州、荆门、宜昌四地七校联考)Have you ever been given something you dont like or that doesnt fit, but you dont want to hurt the feelings of the person who thinks about you?Youre not alone. Everyone has received an unwanted gift at least once in his or her life. That doesnt mean the item is bad or useless. It simply means that it doesnt work for you. If you find yourself with something nice but that doesnt fit into your lifestyle, consider regifting it. Before you do that, make sure you understand the manners of this practice that is more and more common as people find it difficult to make ends meet to a great extent. There are specific things you should do to an item. Failure to do any of them may create an awkward situation. You never have to lie about what you are doing, but you dont want to be in the position of having to explain anything. For example, remove the original wrapping paper and rewrap it in your own way;make sure the box is in good condition so the item doesnt appear used;check the item and make sure there are no cards or names on the packaging;inspect the item and make sure it is in excellent condition. When you get ready for regifting, consider having a white elephant gift exchange for your next celebration. This removes all the embarrassment of being caught regifting because thats the whole purpose of the event. In order to prevent hurting feelings, provide everyone with a guest list and ask them not to bring anything given by the people on that list.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文,讲述了怎样转送不喜欢或者不太适合自己的礼物。5Why does the author begin the passage with a question?ATo share a hot phenomenon.BTo introduce the following part.CTo ask for readers answers.DTo point out a common opinion.B解析:推理判断题。 It simply means that it doesnt work for you.”,从而引出下文,所以选B。6What most contributes to the growing regifting?APeoples lack of money.BPeoples dislike of the gifts.CPeoples reduced desire for gifts.DPeoples understanding of its manners.A解析:细节理解题。根据第二段中的“this practice that is more and more common as people find it difficult to make ends meet to a great extent”可知,转送礼物变得越来越常见是因为人们发现在很大程度上很难实现收支平衡,故选项A “人们缺钱” 正确。7Whats mainly talked about in Paragraph 3?AWhat to do before regifting.BHow to make use of unwanted gifts.CWhat kind of gifts to be regifted.DWhy regifting can cause embarrassment.A解析:段落大意题。 A。8What does the underlined phrase in the last paragraph mean?ASuitable but valueless.BExpensive and useful.CPackaged and invaluable.DNice but unsuitable.D解析:词义猜测题。根据第二段首句“If you find yourself with something nice but that doesnt fit into your lifestyle, consider regifting it.” 完形填空(2019成都第二次诊断性检测)Alex Yawor brings fallen heroes back to life by painting their final portraits.
