On a Tree Fallen Across the Road,-Robert Frost,Robert Frost (March 26, 1874 January 29, 1963),Robert Frost was an American poet. He is highly regarded for his realistic depictions of rural life and his command of American colloquial speech. His work frequently employed settings from rural life in New England in the early twentieth century, using them to examine complex social and philosophical themes. He was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 1960 for his poetical works.,The tree the tempest with a crash of wood Throws down in front of us is not to bar Our passage to out journeys end for good, But just to ask us who we think we are,Insisting always on our own way so. She likes to halt us in our runner tracks, And make us get down in a foot of snow Debating what to do without an ax.,The first five lines of the poem sets the stage and holds a message for the reader of the poem,how the speaker feels we deal with the realities of the unexpected events in our lives.,And yet she knows obstruction is in vain; we will not be put off the final goal we have it hidden in us to attain, Not though we have to seize earth by the pole And ,tired of aimless circling in one place, Steer straight off after something into space.,The last six lines of the poem state that we will continue from this point on and achieve victory despite the temporary setback caused by the obstacle. Perseverance is mapped out in our futures once we are tired of walking in circles trying to decide where to go.,Sonnet Format 十四行诗的格式,Main features:,The poem consist of 14 lines, each line contains ten syllables written in pentameter(五步格诗) The rhyme scheme of the poem is ABABCDCDEFEFGG The first eight lines asks a question or expresses an emotional tension and is followed by six lines that resolves the problem and relieves the tension.,Comment,The fallen tree is a metaphor for the obstacles one can encounter through life. People are so concerned with their problems and how to solve them that they dont see what is around them.
