Unit 3 The Million Pound Bank Note 阅读理解A(2018全国卷)Teens and younger children are reading a lot less for fun, according to a Common Sense Media report published Monday. While the decline over the past decade is steep for teen readers, some data in the report shows that reading remains a big part of many childrens lives, and indicates how parents might help encourage more reading.According to the reports key findings, “the proportion(比例) who say they hardly ever read for fun has gone from 8 percent of 13yearolds and 9 percent of 17yearolds in 1984 to 22 percent and 27 percent respectively today.”The report data shows that pleasure reading levels for younger children, ages 28,remain largely the same. But the amount of time spent in reading each session has declined, from closer to an hour or more to closer to a half hour per session. When it comes to technology and reading, the report does little to counsel(建议) parents looking for data about the effect of ereaders and tablets on reading. It does point out that many parents still limit electronic reading, mainly due to concerns about increased screen time. The most hopeful data shared in the report shows clear evidence of parents serving as examples and important guides for their kids when it comes to reading. Data shows that kids and teens who do read frequently, compared to infrequent readers, have more books in the home, more books purchased for them, parents who read more often, and parents who set aside time for them to read.As the end of school approaches, and school vacation reading lists loom(逼近) ahead, parents might take this chance to step in and make their own summer reading list and plan a family trip to the library or bookstore.【解题导语】本文是一篇议论文,介绍了Common Sense Media(常识媒体)的一个研究报告。 3Why do many parents limit electronic reading?AEbooks are of poor quality.BIt could be a waste of time.CIt may harm childrens health.DEreaders are expensive.C解析:推理判断题。 4How should parents encourage their children to read more?AAct as role models for them.BAsk them to write book reports.CSet up reading groups for them.DTalk with their reading class teachers.A解析:细节理解题。根据第六段第一句“The most hopeful data shared in the report shows clear evidence of parents serving as examples and important guides for their kids when it comes to reading”可知家长应该起模范带头作用,鼓励孩子多阅读。故选A项。B(2019江西赣中南五校联考)Before I studied psychology,I used to think that people would laugh when funny things occurred. While I was right about that,I discovered there are lots of other psychological factors that make people laugh other than the funny part of a joke. When someone laughs at a joke, there will usually be more than one reason that makes him laughand the more reasons there are,the more powerful the joke will be.I was attending a standup comedy show in Egypt, and when the man started to make fun of pedestrians crossing streets, everyone laughed their heads off.The main reason why those people strongly laughed was that almost all of them felt angry towards pedestrians who crossed streets carelessly. The joke wasnt only funny, but it also made the audience feel that they were right about being angry at those pedestrians. That is, people were laughing both because of the funny joke and because of the happiness experienced as a result of the psychological support they got.The better a joke makes a person feel, and the more it includes other psychological factors, the more the person will like it.For example,if you envy one of your friends, and someone tells a joke that is funny and,at the same time, makes your friend seem stupid, then you will probably laugh at it louder than if you werent jealous of him.In short,we dont laugh only when we hear something funny; we also laugh when we experience some kind of happiness that results from the other psychological factors involved in the joke.I strongly discourage you from making fun of anyone or belittling someone to make someone else laugh. All I want to explain is that if your joke supports a persons emotions,he will certainly like it a lot.【解题导语】本文主要分析了人们笑的原因。4What did the author find out after studying psychology?AOnly good jokes make people laugh.BMany factors lead to peoples laughing.CFunny things can make people laugh.DLaughter can make people healthy.B解析:细节理解题。 B。5Why did the audience laugh loud at the pedestrians?AThey played a trick on the pedestrians.BThe pedestrians behaved in a funny way.CThey could feel the pedestrians happiness.DTheir emotion was approved of by the show.D解析:推理判断题。 D。6What does the underlined word“belittling”probably mean?AAnnoy. BBlame.CLook down on. DMake up to.C解析:词义猜测题。 annoy“使恼怒”;blame“责怪”;look down on“蔑视,瞧不起”;make up to “接近,奉承,补足”。7Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage?B解析:推理判断题。 完形填空(2019江西赣中五校联考)My mother was a responsible teacher and she retired. So I decided to give her one of my old computers to help her pass the time. She had a little bit of computer_1_,so I just set it up for her and let her_2_with it on her own.As time went on,I_3_the computer was hardly touched. She said she didnt know_4_to use it.I decided to teach her.I sat and_5_everything and she seemed OK with what I said.Unfortunately,my sister called me at that moment_6_we talked on the phone for an hour. Then when I saw her again, she was sitting in front of the computer, looking quite_7_The screen saver(屏幕保护程序) had appeared and she didnt know how to_8_it off.She had tried_9_every key and it didnt work.I told her,“Just_10_the mouse a little.”What I meant was that she just needed to move the mouse around to_11_the computer up.What she did was to_12_the mouse and start shaking it around in midair until the_13_went completely black.I couldnt help laughing because of her funny_14_The more I laughed the_15_she got.She thought that I was a(n)_16_teacher and she decided to figure the thing out herself.Well,at least I helped her overcome her_17_of breaking something and encouraged her to_18_a little.About a week later,I found a homemade_19_ card with a mouse on the front making a funny face_20_to my door.It said,“Thanks for the computer lessons.Love,Mom.”【解题导语】该文主要讲述了作者教退休的母亲玩电脑的有趣故事。1A.theoryBknowledgeCtechnology DhistoryB解析:根据下文中的“She said she didnt know_to use it.I decided to teach her.” 2A.watch BtrainCplay DseeC解析:根据上文中的“So I decided to give her one of my old computers to help her pass the time.” play with.“玩”。 4A.why BwhenChow DwhereC解析:根据下文中的“I decided to teach her.” 5A.learned BdescribedCexplained DdiscussedC解析:根据空处前一句“I decided to teach her.”和空后的“and she seemed OK with what I said”可推知,作者给母亲讲解(explained)了相关的电脑知识。 turn off“关掉”。9A.hitting BfeelingCchanging DremovingA解析:根据空后的“and it didnt work”可推知,母亲因为不懂得怎么关掉屏幕保护程序,于是就按(hitting)了每一个键。
