States and FunctionThe selected teaching material is the first period of unit 8 why dont you get her a scarf? Topic of the first period is gift giving, including making comments on the gifts and giving advice politely. In previous unit, students have learned to give advice using could and should, so it wont be difficult for them to master the sentence patterns in this period.2. Analysis of the StudentsReceiving and giving gifts is a happy daily event in our life. So students are interested in discussing gifts and they have much to say about the topic.3. Teaching Aims and Demands(1) Knowledge AimsStudent should be able to compare different gifts and make comments on them. For example, thats too personal, thats original and so on. Students should be able to give suggestions politely using following sentence patterns: Howwhat about.?Why dont you.?Why not.?(2) Ability AimsBy listening and speaking practice, students listening and speaking skills should be improved. And at the same time students should learn to communicate better with others.4. Teaching Main and Difficult Points(1) Words and Phrasescomment, scarf, photo album, personal, special, original(2) Sentence PatternsWhat should I give my mom for birthday?What/ how about a scarf?Thats too boring.Why not / dont you give her a camera?Thats too expensive.Part Two The Teaching Methods During my teaching, I mainly adopt the following three methods: audio-visual teaching method, task-based teaching method and communicative teaching method.Classroom teaching should let the student experience the knowledge creation, the process of knowledge rich and deepening. This requires us to create proper teaching situations to stimulate students thinking, and let them learn to explore, analyze and think in the activities. In my class, I adopt some relative pictures and materials to arise students interests in this topic. And I also set different situations to help students consolidate the target language.Part Three Studying WaysIts a listening-speaking class. So students are supposed to speak English as much as possible. By listening to the materials about gift giving and advice giving, students can find out how to give advice politely by themselves rather than I tell them. Then in learning situations students can think and communicate with their partners using the target language. It will be easy for students to express their own ideas about things and give advice in daily life.Part Four Teaching ProceduresStep 1 Greet and revision1. Small discussion. When shall we give gifts to others?2. Set a situation. Tinas birthday is coming. What should I give her? (In this part, students are encouraged to express their ideas on what to give and the reasons.) Step 2 Presentation1. Listen to a short conversation and circle the gifts and comments.2. Listen again and try to write down the missing sentence. Then check the answers.A: Whats up? B: What should I get my mom for birthday?A: B: No, thats too boring.A: Hmm. B: Thats too boring, too.A: Well, B: No way! Thats too expensive.A: Ive got it! B: Tennis balls? No, theyre too cheap3. Let students to summarize how we can give advice politely. And then practice the conversation above.4. Set different situations and let students practice how to give advice and make comments. 1). My friend is graduating from school. 2). Peter helps me a lot with my English. I want to thank him. 3). Childrens Day is coming. What should I give my nephew?5. Listening. For the first time, ask students to find out who is the person shopping for. Extra material on some rules in giving gifts in different countries.Step 4 Homework1. Practice the conversation in P60.2. Prepare a gift for your mom and dad with all your heart.Part Five The Application of Rural Distance Education ResourcesWhen Im preparing the class, I collect lots of pictures of gifts and materials about gift giving. Then I adopt useful ones and use them in my teaching properly. So in the teaching process, students will no longer accept the knowledge negatively, but obtain knowledge through their work. And students are able to master the correct way of learning and the ability of obtain knowledge independently.For example, at the beginning of class, students can see many pictures of gifts on the screen directly. In this way, students interest can be enhanced and their vocabulary can be widened. At the same time, by seeing pictures students can express their ideas easier than just thinking in mind. At the end of my class, I prepare an extra material about gift giving in different cultures from the Internet. Students may find out that so
