Manners,Module Two CULTURE,Unit 3,Manner n. (1) (sing.) 方式,方法 (= way) eg: Patients should be treated in a friendly manner. (2) (sing.) 态度,样子 eg: He has an absent-minded manner. eg: I dont like her manner as shes very hostile. (3) (pl.) 礼貌 good manners 有礼貌 bad manners 没礼貌 eg: Its bad manners to interrupt someone. And when he receives something, he usually says “Thank you”.,Manners are important to happy relations among people. No one likes a person with bad manners.,Good manners,He doesnt interrupt (打扰)other people when they are talking. He also does not talk loudly in public.,When he sneezes (打喷嚏) or spits (吐痰), he uses a handkerchief (手帕).,As a student it is bad manners to come late to class. If you are late you should make an apology(抱歉)to the teacher either at the time or after class.,Good manners,Seven Donts,Dont spit. Dont litter. Dont jaywalk. Dont damage public property. (1) 羞耻,惭愧(不可数名词) 他无羞耻之心。 He has no shame. 他因羞愧而低头。 He hung his head in shame. feel shame for sth. / at doing sth. 为 感到羞耻 这些学生因为考试作弊而感到羞愧。 eg: The students felt great shame at having cheated in the test. (2) 可耻的事;遗憾、惋惜的事(可数名词) 我觉得这么做是一件可耻的事。 eg: I think it a shame to behave like that.,这样浪费太可惜了。 eg: It is a shame to be so wasteful. 那天下雨了,真可惜。 eg: What a shame (that) it rained the other day. 你不能留下来吃饭真是太遗憾了。 eg: What a shame (that) you cant stay for dinner. shameful adj. 可耻的,不光彩的 shameless adj.不知羞耻的 ashamed adj. 感到羞愧的,5. tip n. You had better pay attention to your English pronunciation. eg. My kid spends hours chatting on the phone to/ with their friends. chat about sth./sb. 你们聊了些什么? Eg. What were you chatting about? chat n. 闲聊;谈话 与.闲 聊 have a chat with sb.,9. facial adj. 面部的,脸上的 a facial expression/ injury 脸部表情/ 受伤,10. expression n. 表情 (= look) 惊讶/ 不相信/ 恐怖的神色 an expression of amazement / disbelief / horror 她脸上流露出担心的神色。 eg:There was a worried expression on her face. expression n. 表示,表达;词语 common polite expressions 一般性的礼貌用语,11. cue n. 提示,暗示 照我的提示。 Follow my cue. a cue for sth a cue to do sth 乔恩一来就意味着要喝更多的香槟酒了。 eg. Jons arrival was a cue for more champagne. 我想那就是要我解释一下我为什么到这里来。 eg. I think thats my cue to explain why Im here. cue v. cu(e)ing, cued, cued 给(某人)暗示或提示 在你要我开始讲话时,你能暗示我一下吗? eg. Can you cue me when you want me to begin speaking?,12. stare v. 凝视,盯着看 stare at sb./sth. 她抬起眼睛盯着我看。 eg. She raised her eyes and stared at me. 在公共场所盯着别人看是不礼貌的。 eg. It is bad manners to stare at someone in public. 13. positive adj. 积极的,乐观的 乐观的态度/ 前景 a positive attitude/outlook 她力求对新工作更有信心。 eg. She tried to be more positive about her new job.,14. indicate v. 表明, 表示 indicate sth. / that -clause 研究表明,饮食习惯正迅速改变。 eg. Research indicates that eating habits are changing fast. 夜空呈红色往往预示第二天天气晴朗。 Eg. A red sky at night indicates fine weather the next day. 15. universal adj. 普遍的, 一般的 Eg. When you start a conversation with a foreigner in English, the weather is perhaps the most universal topic. universally adv. 全体地, 一致地,16. topic n. 话题,题目,论题 ( = subject ) 交谈的主要话题是汤姆。 Eg. We should raise open-ended questions in the main course of a conversation. 23. attentively adv. 专心(地)留心(地)= carefully 当我描述我的见闻时,他专心地听着。 Eg. When I was describing what I had seen, he listened attentively.,24. comment n. 意见, 评论 v.评论 他看过这部电影了, 但是没有作任何评价。 eg. He had seen the film, but made no comments on it. 我不会对人们所说的做任何评价。 eg. I wont comment on what people say. 25. track n. 方向, 移动路线 v. 追踪 猎人追踪动物的足迹。 eg.
