The novel describes the whole process the protagonist as a mean and unkind miser turns into a generous and kind person, visited by three spirits respectively from the past, the present and the future. Combined with the miserable childhood experience in the Victorian, the thesis also analyses the influence of the three spirits visiting and reflects the character of capitalist loving money to death and miserable fate of the poor by new historicism in historicity of texts and textuality of history. This novel not only tells the exploitations which capitalist brings to the poor, but also reveals the truth that human being good by nature.
