securityinoldage;builtunrivaledcentersoflearningandopenedpublicschoolstoall;splittheatomandexploredtheheavens;inventedtheputerandthemicrochip;anddeepenedthewellspringofjusticebymakingarevolutionincivilrightsforafricanamericansandallminorities,andextendingthecircleofcitizenship,opportunityanddignitytowomen.now,forthethirdtime,anewcenturyisuponus,andanothertimetochoose.webeganthe19thcenturywithachoice,tospreadournationfromcoasttocoast.webeganthe20thcenturywithachoice,toharnesstheindustrialrevolutiontoourvaluesoffreeenterprise,conservation,andhumandecency.thosechoicesmadeallthedifference.atthedawnofthe21stcenturyafreepeoplemustnowchoosetoshapetheforcesoftheinformationageandtheglobalsociety,tounleashthelimitlesspotentialofallourpeople,and,yes,toformamoreperfectunion.whenlastwegathered,hesefouryears,wehavebeentouchedbytragedy,exhilaratedbychallenge,strengthenedbyachievement.americastandsaloneastheworlds
