Im short. What does he/she look like? He/She has short hair.Ability aim: Promote students listening and speaking skills and communicative competence about describing ones appearance. Promote students competence of analyzing, inducing, and summarizing.Emotional aim: by describing peoples appearances, express their views or preferences. Ss would know what the true beauty is and understand that we shouldnt judge a person from his appearance.Important pointsVocabulary: hair, tall, height, thin, heavy, build, curly, straight, medium.Target languages:-What does he/she look like?-He/She is tall.-What do you look like?-Im thin. I have short hair.Anticipated problems&Planned solutions1. Students may be shy to talk out the answers.(teacher need to encourage the students dont be shy, and try to elicit the answer from student. For example, give believing eye contacts, and say a little part of the answer.)2. Students may give a wrong answer.(teacher shouldnt criticize the students or just let them sit down. At first, ask the question again and remind them, give them another chance. If they could give correct answer, teacher still need to encourage them. And give them an active response.)3. Some students may distraction or not play game with others.(teacher need to walk around to monitor students, and remind them timely.)Design intent1. Lead-in Using a famous song to lead in will draw students attention effectively.2. Presentation Using pictures to show the appearance could help students to understand the meanings of words. Blackboard will help student to recall and memorize. Shadow-reading could help students read words more frequently, increase their confidence, and consolidate what just learned.3. PracticePractice could help students express the sentences more frequently, increase their confidence.4. Production Production could help teacher to testify whether the students master the new knowledge5. Game Game could help students to consolidate the new knowledge in a fun way6. Summary Summary could help students recall what have learnt in class and to for a clear structure for the knowledge.7. Listen carefully, because Ill have some questions for the song. Are you ready? Go!(play the song, xiaowei)T: Its a song about a girl, Xiaowei. Right? (yes)T: By the song, what are the physical features of Xiaowei?Ss: She is beautiful. She has big eyes.T: Yes, great. And these are also the answer of the question” What does Xiaowei look like?”So, today we are going to learn “what does he look like”.2.Presentation First, lets look at the picture(PPT11,YaoMing). Do you know who is he? When I ask “what does YaoMing look like”, it means what are the physical features of YaoMing. There are lots of answers for the question. And we will learn to answer the question from 3 aspects. What does YaoMing look like? Hair-He has short hair. Height-He is very tall. Build, build means the shape and size of ones body. Its heavy or thin.-He is thin. The boy in pink is taller than girl and shorter than the boy in green, right? So he is. On the opposite, Jim just eat a little food and do lots of exercise, so Jim is thin. What does Bill look like? His build is in the middle of heavy and thin.
