第一次作业 费燮沵 中文1101 119100136字数:1201Whats your price tag in campus:Excessive commercialization in China universityIn this paper, we will discuss the situation that excessive commercialization is sweeping across the campus in todays China university. Firstly, this essay begins with making a general overview of the overall situation. And the second part is the analysis of causes of these phenomena (both on the perspective of students and main factors from the social external environment that also actuate). There are some statements and references to illustrate the ideas that others put forward,. Finally, the essay details the pros and cons of the commercialization. It promotes the enthusiasm of the students, when it as appropriate. Fulsome commercialization yet has a negative impact on campus construction. Students can not only be drove by the interests, but also need to balance and focus on the comprehensive development of themselves. There is generally a lack of awe for scientific and academic and replace it with obedience to authority(Dong,2012,297). Many college students want to win a scholarship, not only by study hard, but also take part in various activities which have extra bonus points included in the award of scholarship. In particular, some students with high achievement motivation, thinks scholarships represent honor, they regard winning a scholarship as a reflection about self-esteem and self-realization(Jiang,2007,70). At the meanwhile, most students will join societies at the beginning of the college life. Student leaders as a bridge connecting schools, teachers and students, have the opportunity to participate in group activities organized in campus and off-campus, thus are able to exercise a variety of capabilities, such as leadership, organizational skills, coordination and interpersonal ability(Meng and Dai,2012,99). Those students who run for student leaders, except the most hold a simple purpose looking forward to exercising ability, inevitable part of them hold the idea of take credit, to be selected excellent or good to join the party(Guo,2012,129). These ideas blinded by fame and profit are very common, even when attending an audition, the interviewer may ask whats your true purpose of joining the organization, is that benefit to scholarship or a promotion?Commercialization no doubt has changed life style of college students, they have new goals to chase. The so-called survival of the fittest competition rules, has almost become the basis of the principle of the modern education system(Wan,2001,572). The famous phrase of Napoleon that Every French soldier carries a marshals baton in his knapsackgets a great papulation among students. But it is not worthwhile to promote these behaviors which is overly enthusiastic about power and authority. So why are they keen on that? Erich Fromm ever mentioned in his book Man for Himself, the Western capitalist society demonstrate their legitimacy, people are competitive, jealous existences, and this assertion has also been confirmed by economists and sociologists(Erich Fromm,1988,302). Due to the large population in china, it is difficult for graduates to find an ideal job when they just start working. At the same time, a lot of people are possible to be faced with the plight of the unemployed . The experiences of internships, being student leaders and receiving scholarships are important inspection standards defining whether the graduate is capable for the job. The companies increasingly focus on these aspects in the recruitment. It seems one cannot prove his ability without numerous awards, the rsum will be a bleak one. Candidates without that can not stand out from the crowd. Serving as student experienced cadres often become the focus in the employer interview in the campus recruitment, and it seems that becomes a default rule of the majority of students that Who ever served as student leaders are easily to find a job(Zhang,2012,50). Graduate students are engaged in academic research which relies on GPA . The honor of student leaders should not be linked with academic ability assessment things(Liu, 2011,3).For those reasons, students are enthusiastic to participate in community activities and study diligently, which means such institutional enhances students competitiveness and motivation of study. Mechanism of competition is conducive to personnel training that is adapt to the requirements of modern economic development. On the other hand, commercialization do have its harmful influence to the development of college spirit and students themselves. Students join the Students Union with impure motives, have problems in work attitude, resulting in in-efficience(Ning and Pan,2012,200). On one side, the credit-ismcollege education thinking exists a long time but have not been criticized and reflected. So-called credit-ism, is set to credits academic learning which is the core content of university education, and dormitories education, libraries using, the expansion and extra-curricular activities and so on, have never been set to University credits. Therefore, they are both considered by the mainstream thinking of university education as the edge, or at a dispensable position (articlecommodification, the Chinese edition, March, 31st, 2013). And from a further aspect, college students used to be naive, they were not only academic excellence, but also rich in social skills, full of vitality power, righteousness and they were symbol of hope. Along with the the market trends, students gradually began to have more in-depth contact with the community, and get tempted in the social atmosphere. They may be contaminated some bad bureaucratic habits. Forming cliques and standing treats have become general phenomena in the campus of university. The nature of the university is about academic research, pursuit of truth, knowledge creation, innovation of values and personnel training(Tian and Meng,2011,11). University can only be a pure land where students seeking for knowledge and truth, but can not degenerate into a vanity fair. For students, the scholarship whether is based on a reasonable standard, relates to whether scholarship is sent to the real needs of the people, really make a difference(Chen,2012,43). There is a popular current trend that it offers the implementation of preferential bonus policy to caucus and student cadres in the matter of being recommended for admission to be postgraduates and gaining scholarships. It will undoubtedly become a major driving force in the student union leaders compete. Gradually, both scholarships and the studentss union separate from their original purpose when they were established for the first time, over-commercialization drives university chasing for fame and fortune, also becomes the breeding ground for unhealthy practices of bureaucracy and corruption. When each person has his or her own price tag, our attention is no longer on a ones quality or ability, however attach importance to his label, which means everyone is a commodity in campus, on the level of the value of goods achievements. Students lost their unique personality and havent figured out their purpose of entering university. In conclusion, this essay states the status quo that there is over commercialization in university, which can not be ignored, and discusses the causes of the situation and the advantages and disadvantages of that. The problem deserves peoples attention and reflection. The system must be reformed in order to unlock the benefits of scholarships and student organizations, and curb bad practices. Schools ought to guide students to a correct understanding of university life, there are far important goals waiting for them to pursue. In short, the price tag cant be used as standard to assess student, and isnt the sole criterion for judging people.1 Dong XH.
