Good afternoon everyone,It is my great honor to be here to share my teaching ideas with you!The content I chose is the reading part of Unit 3 Book 4. A taste of English Humor. Now let me introduce it in detail. This lesson is a reading passage. It plays a very important role in English teaching .This period includes Warming Up, Pre-reading, Reading and Comprehending.The knowledge goalis to enable Ss to catch the main idea by fast reading. Then to find out the detailed information through careful reading. By the end of the lesson, students will have a better understanding of the meaning of the text.The ability goalis to develop Ss basic skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. Of course, the centre of this lesson is to practice reading, including predicting, skimming, scanning and digesting. Meanwhile I will encourage Ss to practice, participate and cooperate in the classroom activities.The emotional goalis to learn the optimism , kindness and determination of Charlie.The teaching important point isto help the students learn how to understand and enjoy English humors and develop Ss basic skills.Teaching difficult point is tohelp the students know the differences between English and Chinese in humours.As for the teaching method,I will adopt communication method, task-based method and cooperation study method. With the help of the computer, I believe the English results will be improved greatly in my class.The teaching steps are as follows:Step 1 Lead in1. Greet the whole class as usual.2. I will show Ss some pictures of Charlie Chaplin and play a short video about Charlie eating his shoe. (My purpose here is to stimulate students interest in learning.)Step2. Pre-reading1. Reading and finding.Tell students to read the jokes on page17 and find their punchlines.(pair work)2.Filling in the chartAsk students to name the kinds of humour they have known by asking some questions.(Class Work)3. Let students discuss the following questionsStep 3 Fast readingIn this step, I will ask Ss to read the text as quickly as possible to catch the main idea of the passage and get a brief impression of Charlie. By doing so, I will train Ss skimming skills. And then, let Ss complete the notes about Charlie Chaplin using the information in the passage.Born:_ Job:_ Famous character:_Costume:_Typ of acting:_ Died:_Step 4 Careful-readingIn this step, I will let Ss read the passage carefully and finish the following tasks according to the passage. The purpose is to train Ss to get some important facts and some detailed information and improve the ability of reading skills.1) Decide the following statements true or false.Charlie Chaplin was poor when he was a small boy. ( )People who dont know English cannot enjoy Chaplins films.( )The Gold Rush is set in California in the late of the nineteenth century. ( )In The Gold Rush Chaplin and his friend are fortunate to find some gold . ( )In the film the meal he eats is hard to chew.( )Chaplin not only acted in films but wrote and directed films as well.( )2) Let the Ss match the main idea with each paragragh.(Individual Work)Para 1 Why did people need cheering up.Para 2 What was Charlies childhood like?Para 3 What was his most famous character like?Para 4 An example of a sad situation that he made funny.Para 5 His achievements.3) Read the first two paragraphs and try to understand the following sentences correctly:1. Laughter is the sun that drives winter from the human face.笑声如驱走人们脸上寒冬的太阳。(Laughter can make people forget their problems and make them feel happy.)2. Not that Charlies own life was easy!然而卓别林自己的生活也并不容易。Not that用于句首或者短语之前表达否定意义,倒不是并不是说3. You may find it astonishing that Charlie was taught to sing as soon as he could speak and dance as soon as he could walk.你可能会感到惊奇,查理刚会说话时大人就教他唱歌,他刚会走路时大人就教他跳舞了。4. Unfortunately his father died, leaving the family even worse off 不幸的是他的父亲去世了,使得他的家境更加艰难。4) After reading the last two paragraghs ,answer the following questions:1. What prize did Charlie Chaplin get for his outstanding work in films?2. Why do you think he was so successful?Step5. Post reading1. Summary.In order to let Ss understand the text better, I will give Ss 5 minutes to retell the passage by filling in the blanks.Charlie Chaplin was (1) in a poor family.
