Living Alone or Living with Roommates?1. Living Alone or Living with Roommates? It is often difficult for a student to decide whether he shall have roommates or not. However, in my opinion, the advantages of having roommates outweigh its disadvantages. Those who dont like having roommates argue that several people living together cause some unpleasantness because every person has his or her own way. On the contrary, no better chance could be found here to learn how to adjust the subtle relationships in solving trivial problems will, in the long run, enrich our social experience and help us understand others and learn to be considerate. Moreover, the incomparable advantage is that living together offers an excellent chance of cooperation. For example, planning a party single-handedly may be a boring and difficult job. However, nothing could be so enjoyable and easy without our roommates help. Combining every members wit and talent together, we may do anything perfectly.I regard rooming together as a precious opportunity for it is the best way of learning cooperation and understanding. Such experience will be helpful in ones later life.My View on University Marriage1. My View on University MarriageA 50-year ban that prevented university students getting married has been lifted, which has aroused peoples concern. Some think university marriage is reasonable while others insist that college students should not get married. Those in fovor of university marriage argue that college students are adults and should be given the right to get married. They also add that marriage is based on love rather than on the materialistic goods you can offer somebody. If you love somebody, it does not matter if you are in university or not. Those against university marriage hold that university marriage brings students various problems. First of all, they think universities are where students pursue knowledge, but early marriage will distract their attention and energy from study. Secondly, college students are not financially prepared for marriage and marriage without solid financial support will become a burden to the student couples. Thirdly, since marriage should be based on a more stable basis, university marriage will be fragile due to the lack of stability. As for me, I dont regard university marriage as worth advocating, because in my opinion, college students are not mature enough for marriage. Whats more, time on campus is precious and essential for study. In a word, university marriage brings students little good.Aid Education in China1. Aid Education in ChinaEach year, college students, encouraged to aid students in the poverty-stricken areas, volunteer themselves in poor villages for a year and try to improve education in poor areas.Aid-education has been beneficial in two aspects. On the one hand, college volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely well-received by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are also enjoying the appreciation and no-distance friendship from the children. Whats more, they are greatly inspired by the moving and tireless spirit of the children. In my opinion, Chinas educational development cant be isolated from each individual and we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.中立型Book Knowledge or Practical Experience?1. Book Knowledge or Practical Experience?Which is more important in life, knowledge from the books you read, or personal experience you gain in reality? The answer may vary from person to person. But in my opinion, they are of the same importance.Experience is priceless for it helps one deal with the problems with ease and confidence. Experience, however, is limited in terms of time and space. For one thing, it is impossible for anyone to experience all the important events. For another, as the speed with which skills are obsolete and new problems crop up is unprecedented because of the fast development of society, experience is far less adequate. One way to compensate for it is to read books. Books of various kinds can bring us almost unlimited additional experience. To be sure, its secondhand experience. But it is the ideal supplement to our own limited experience. Few of us can travel around the world, or live long beyond one hundred years, but all of us can live many lives by reading books. Both book knowledge and personal experience are essential. While experience makes one more resourceful, book knowledge makes one more learned.综合型A Good Major or Good University1. A Good Major or Good UniversityEvery sudent will be faced with the same question when he passes the College Entrance Examination: Should he choose a good major or a good university? Answers differ as for different groups of people. Some students give priority to a good major. What they cherish is a specialty they like most. In their mind, whether the university is famous is not very importantso long as they work hard, they can achieve a lot in any university, and a bright future is awaiting them.Other students pay more attention to the university. They attach great importance to the university, because the environment of the university to the making of an excellent person is fertile soil to the growth of a plant. How can you have a wide vision and a broad horizon if you receive education in an unknown college where there is less exchange of information? In a word, the best choice is a good major in a good university, but without great efforts we can hardly get such a choice. If we cannot obtain both, in my opinion, the first thing to consider is a good major. 谚语型Reading Makes a Full Man1. Reading Makes a Full Man“Reading makes a full man”. It is a saying that reveals how important and beneficial reading could be and encourages people to do more good reading. For one thing, books can provide people with knowledge and make them fully-educated and well-informed in various ways. For example, reading professional books can prepare people for better fulfillment of their jobs. For another, people can lead various lives through pages of books, which otherwise can never be realized in a mans limited life span. So reading can enrich peoples life experience and broaden their vision. Still another, reading does good to our mind. Good books are always ready to show us the truth, beauty and goodness in life and give us delight, satisfaction and encouragement.Indeed, the significance of reading can never be overvalued. However, it must be realized that people should be cautious when deciding which books to read since reading bad books are time-wasting and harmful. Read more good books in your limited life, and reading will make you a full man. There Is No End to Learning1. There Is No End to LearningAfter being enrolled in colleges, many students just want to be relaxed, thus idling away their time on campus. Yet there is no end to learning.First of all, colleges are where we sharpen our mind, broaden our understanding and obtain specialized training. The four-year academic life is a practical and necessary step to prepare us for the fierce competition in the future. Furthermore, as is mentioned by Alder, a great philosopher, “education is not completed with graduation.” A college degree can never ensure long-term job success. Maintaining success in a job depends on education after graduation. Most importantly, learning is rewarding both materially and spiritually by enriching our life and perfecting our personality. In a word, learning is an invaluable career worth our life-long pursuit. No one should be content with just high school or college education.First of all, . Furthermore, Most importantly, First and foremost, Moreover, . What is worth noting is that Firstly, Secondly, Most significantly, For one thing, For another, It is worth noting that 分析型An Eye-Witness Account of a Fire Disaster假设你在某日某时某学生寝室目击一起火灾,就此写一篇见证书。 An Eye-Witness Account of a Fire DisasterAt about 11 oclock in the evening, a sudden flash of light awakened me. The whole dormitory was lightened by a fire. The power was cut for some reason, but one of my roommates still had some experiment reports to write. He lit the candle at nine and sat right beside the window. Just when all other roommates fell asleep, the fire broke out. Unfortunately the flame of the candle lit up the curtains and with the wind it quickly spread to the left side of the room. The mosquito-net of the bed on the side burned immediately, and the student on the bed screeched and jumped down from inside. Soon the fire spread to the left corner where there were shelves of books and wardrobes. All of us got up simultaneously. Some rushed out for water and the fire extinguisher, with others trying to prevent the fire from spreading to the right. Luckily the fire had been put out with joint efforts. No one was injured; but the fire disaster left some beds and beddings damaged and the roommates scared. The student who lit the candle was fully responsible for the fire disaster. First and foremost, he has no safety consciousness; lighting candles is forbidden in the university dorm. Second, he was so careless that he never noticed that the curtain fell down on the flame. Finally, while the fire was on, he was standing near the bookshelf and didnt put out the fire in time.图表型Youngsters Use of the Internet1. 。5,000,000 Number of youngstersAverage time spent on the Internet4,000,0003,000,0002,000,0001,000,0000 1995 1999 1995 1999Youngsters Use of the InternetThe bar charts above display that an increasing number of young people tend to surf the Internet more and more frequently in Beijing. In 1995, only 500,000 youngsters had access to the Internet spending about half an hour, whereas in 1999 about 4,000,000 young students spent almost seven times longer time online. It is no wonder that the Internet is shaping youngsters life. The Internet provides an abundant source of information and facilitates young peoples communication with their familiar or unfamiliar friends. However, as students, they should not indulge themselves in the illusive world or even playing online games for a rather long time. They should cautiously guard against the unhealthy contents available online.Personally, I also prefer utilizing the Internet properly for the following reasons. First and foremost, it is accessible for me to get the latest information of software, which is my favorite subject. Equally important, thanks to the Internet, I make many foreign friends and make a great progress in English through constant communication with them.College Students Booklist1. 198519952005Philosophy and Society452313Novels33175Foreign Languages113139Computer Science21930Others91013College Students BooklistThe table shows the changes of students choices of various kinds of books from 1985 to 2005. Obviously enough, the number of novels and books of philosophy and society has declined gradually, with that of foreign languages books and computer science ones enjoying much more popularity.Though different readers have their own particular tastes, this phenomenon involves several complicated factors. Firstly, nowadays, most of the college students tend to buy more books concerning foreign languages learning and computer science, mainly because there is a pressing need of foreign languages and computer skills for their future employment. Secondly, novels are still popular though the selling number decreased thanks to the availability of the Internet. Most of popular books could be read online.I always buy books of computer science, firstly because it is my major. Secondly, it is well known that computer science often witnesses the fastest changes, thus in order to keep up with the pace, I have to constantly arm myself with new information. 1981 2001private carmotorcyclebikepublic transportationprivate carmotorcyclebikepublic transportationDriving Private Cars to WorkThe two pie charts above illustrate that an increasing number of people in the big city have chosen driving to work in the past two decades. Between 1981 and 2001, the proportion of people riding bicycles or resorting to public transportation declined respectively by 18% and 10%, with people driving motorcycles and private cars growing by 16% and 12%.There are two main components accounting for the rising percentage of private-car drivers. Nowadays, its common for people to travel a long distance to work in big cities or even across cities. Private cars will undoubtedly become the first choice when speed and convenience are considered. Whats more, with rising average income and the advent of some types of economic cars, people can afford private cars, which used to be luxuries for almost all Chinese. Some people are pessimistically believe that the growing numbers of cars on the road will lead to some negative effects. On one hand, it will worsen the traffic condition in metropolitan cities. On the other hand, it will also pose great threat to the environment. 信件A Letter to the Accommodation Office你即将去某校攻读硕士学位,特提前向该校学生宿管办(the accommodation office)写信询问有关信息。1. A Letter to the Accommodation OfficeAugust 15th, 2005Dear Sir or Madam,Im Li Ming, a student of Qingdao University.
