摘要情态被认为是人类语言与思维最不易捉摸而又最基本的范畴之一，语言交际中情态的使用是一个普遍现象，是语言活动的自然产物。它长期以来都是国内外学者们研究的焦点问题。语言学家们从不同的角度、运用不同的方法对情态进行了广泛而深入的研究。然而，尽管研究的领域遍及哲学、语义学、语法学和认知学，这些研究却都有其内在的一些局限性。本文尝试着从新的研究视角，即基于j e fv e r s c h u e r e n 提出的语言顺应理论，从语用的角度对交际中英语情态的使用加以分析。在顺应论的理论框架下，我们了解到英语情态的使用过程实质上就是交际者做出语言选择进行顺应的过程。交际者通过使用英语情态这一语言策略来实现其既定的交际目的。为了系统的、清晰的阐释英语情态的顺应过程，本文将语言使用者在语言交际中选用英语情态以达到的顺应目标概括为：语言内部因素的顺应及语言外部因素的顺应。文中所有的分析过程均是从这两个方面展开的。更重要的是，通过分析研究本文提出了英语情态使用的顺应模式，在此交际模式中我们能够清楚的观察到在英语情态动态的、不断选择的过程中，其交际功能得以实现，而这些交际功能的实现为交际的成功铺平了道路。总之，通过本文从顺应论的角度对英语情态的分析，希望对英语情态的研究有了进一步的深入，并为英语情态的研究开创新的视角和注入新鲜的力量。关键词：情态；顺应论；语言内部因素；语言外部因素；动态性a
