巫一剧。长期以来对密勒悲剧观的研究主要集中于探讨他引入悲剧的小人物究竟 能否成为悲剧人物，忽视了密勒悲剧观中的社会批判意识和道德伦理指向。此外该 剧自上演以来长期被当作政治寓言剧而否认该剧的内在艺术价值，国内就该剧的评 论文章也寥寥无几。研究此剧不仅可以看出密勒毕生对人性关怀的追求，探索萨 剧独特的生命力；还能反观密勒的悲剧观，洞察其他作品。 本文共分四部分讨论萨勒姆的女巫所体现的社会悲剧观。 第一章引言部分，简单回顾严肃戏剧家密勒的生平，发掘他所倡导的悲剧反映 社会、改善伦理道德的生活来源；简述萨勒姆的女巫的历史背景，分析密勒如 何对逐巫一案的艺术改编；并评述国内外就该剧的主要研究；指出本文研究意义和 结构。 第二章，着重考察萨勒姆的女巫的戏剧结构和情节分析。通过探索密勒的 戏剧理论，阐明其悲剧观中的社会道德批判意识。包括他提倡的新社会剧理论应加 使主人公散发出普通人的人性光辉，也正因他的种种缺陷使其在与恶势力斗争时能 显示出更高尚的一面。不仅如此，通过普克托之死，密勒向人们传达了人要摆脱自 身的负罪感和生存困境可以通过对家庭和社会承担责任等道德升华的途径。第二部 分以普克托行动的社会环境为背景，分析剧中各种社会关系。强权压制下人性的劣 根性被表现得淋漓尽致，虚伪，报复，为求自保昧着良心出卖朋友被暴露无疑。正 义和社会秩序的冲突酿成了整个社会的悲剧。第三部分揭示了剧中的乐观精神，强 调悲剧性胜利，人性善终将战胜恶。 最后结论概括密勒悲剧观以及在剧中的体现。萨勒姆的女巫永恒的魅力在于 以现实主义为基础展现人物心理的负罪感：不仅如此，密勒通过小人物的悲剧，揭 示现代人生存困境的同时，还深入探讨生存困境中的价值问题，尤其是伦理道德方 面的价值指向，从而达到对整个社会的批判敦促人们反省的目的。
