摘要 习语是人类文化宝库中绚丽多彩的瑰宝。从整体上讲，习语常常显得既寓意 深刻，又韵味隽永，既闪烁着思想智慧的光辉，也闪耀着语言艺术的光彩。从内 容上讲，习语是语言的精萃，智慧的火花，是人类在长期生活和社会实践中各种 经验体会的积累和升华。在漫长的社会历史进程中，人与动物相依共存，接触频 繁，因此在人类的语言中存在大量与动物相关的习语。这些习语使得英汉两种语 言形象生动，性格鲜明，色彩丰富。由于英汉文化的相通性和思维方式的相似性， 人们对同一种动物会产生相同或相似的喻义。但由于英汉民族在风俗习惯、宗教 信仰和生态环境等方面的不同，形成了各具特色的民族文化。文化的差异，导致 人们对同一种动物赋予不同的情感，不同的动物可能产生相同或相似的喻义。 近几十年来对于习语的研究引起了国内学者诸如陈文伯、杨自俭、郁福敏等 的广泛注意：汉英成语词典( 1 9 8 2 ) ，英汉成语词典( 1 9 9 3 ) 及当代英语习 语大辞典( 1 9 9 9 ) 等也相续问世。然而在习语中占有重要地位的动物习语以及对 其应采用何种翻译策略的研究却廖廖无几，很少有这方面的研究及论著付梓。因 此，本文从文化角度出发，对英汉语中与动物有关习语的渊源、特点进行对比研 究，揭示他们之间的异同，并从归化和异化两个方面探讨了英汉有关动物习语的 互译，以期引起对英汉动物习语对比及翻译的更多的关注及思考。 本文首先从英汉动物习语的来源，功能数日，文化色彩等方面进行分析 对比。经对比发现，英汉动物习语在来源，功能方面有许多共同的地方。但由于 其强烈的民族文化色彩，可以将动物习语的文化内涵将其分为四类：概念意义相 同，内涵意义为一语独有；概念意义相同，内涵意义基本相同；概念意义相同， 内涵意义大相径庭；概念意义不同，内涵意义相同或相似。随后，作者着重论述 习语语用效果对等的实质，认为形象处理和功能对等是动物习语翻译的重要原则： 并从归化和异化的角度论述了文化策略在动物习语翻译的具体运用，探讨在动物 习语翻译实践中实现功能效果对等行之有效的几种策略，以说明英汉动物习语互 译应在再现形象、增添形象、转换形象与舍弃形象之间做出选择。通过上述阐述 和例证，作者强调动物习语翻译必须深入了解双方的文化、习语的特征和习语的 形象性；并强调只要切实把握双语文化差异、习语形象特征及其语用效果，采取 相应的策略，就一定能不断提高习语翻译质量。 关键词：动物习语；文化对比；文化翻译；归化与异化；语用功能；最佳功 能对等 v a b s t r a c t i d i o m sa t h eg l i t t e r i n gg e m so ft h
