The Two Gentlemen of VeronaSummary of Act 1Scene 1 Bosom buddies Valentine and Proteus bid a tearful farewell in Verona.Valentine leaves for Milan in order to broaden his horizons and improve himself,while Proteus stays home in Verona,tied by his love for Julia.After Valentine departs,his servant,Speed,enters.Proteus inquires whether or not Speed delivered the letter to Julia and he replies affirmatively.Scene 2Meanwhile,Julia asks her maid,Lucetta,about who she should fall in love, and Lucetta recommends Proteus. Lucetta admits that she has a letter for Julia from Proteus. After much bickering, Julia still unwilling to reveal her love in front of Lucetta, angrily tears up the letter,yet she regrets this act immediately.She sends Lucetta away and picks up the fragments of the letter and kisses them, trying to piece them back together.Scene 3 Antonio,father to Proteus,decides to send Proteus to the Dukes court in Milan and join Valentine. He orders that Proteus must leave the next day, which makes Proteus extremely unhappy and leave reluctantly.Reference:Wikipedia:The Two Gentlemen of VeronaConnection1) Connect “personality”: My favorite part of The Two Gentlemen of Verona is the communication between Valentine and Proteus before Valentines departure in Scene 1,Act 1.This part is written in a light-hearted and interesting vein,which shows their profound friendship and builds different shapes of the characters.The most impressive sentence of all is that “As in the sweetest bud,the eating canker dwells,so eating love inhabits in the finest wits of all.”However,my least favorite part about the act is the communication between Proteus and Speed.They argues whether or not Speed is a sheep and his master,Valentine,is a shepherd in syllogistic reasoning.In my opinion,its too boring to read the whole prolix dialogue,although it makes the character of Speed vivid. 2) Connect music: Since I have already read the whole play,I know that it is a love story of quadrangles.Or to put it another way,Valentine is in love with Silvia,Proteus in love with Julia,while Proteus also falls in love with Silvia.It is such a complicated relation
