内容摘要 被称为“美国严肃戏剧之父”的茏金奥尼尔长久以来都被认为是具有菲勒 斯中心倾向或是男性沙文主义者，且这种评价至今在评论界中根深蒂固。为此， 奥尼尔及其剧作一直受到女性主义文学批评专家的批评和指责。 然而时至今日，我们应该看到，各种文艺批评理论都有了很大的发展和进 步。特别是女性主义批评，始终随着女性主义的发展而不断进步，完善。因此， 笔者认为，有必要用发展的眼光，或者说，用更加客观和公正的态度来对待奥 尼尔和他的作品。 奥尼尔戏剧创作的一大特点是，他从不拘泥于哪种创作风格和流派，而是 始终在进行探索和创新，这就给我们从多方面，多角度审视其作品提供了可能 性。 其另一特色是。戏剧创作终生受其个人经历影响。他的家庭，婚姻，生活 等等，都是影响他创作的主要因素。尤其是他的晚年，我们可以看到，在第三 入黑夜的漫长旅程和送冰的人来了也是在此剧的创作期间完成的。因此， 我们有理由认为，这几部戏在人物刻画等方面有不少相似之处。本文首先从奥 尼尔母亲对他的影响及其婚姻经历入手，说明奥尼尔的女性主义思想的形成过 程。另外。作者在研究中发现，奥尼尔早在自己戏剧创作生涯早期就已经对女 性问题有所关注，由此推断出将奥尼尔定义为男性沙文主义者是比较武断的。 由于目前国内对进入黑夜的漫长旅程及送冰的人来了的研究远高 于诗人的气质一剧。为此，作者先将进入黑夜的漫长旅程及送冰的 人来了两部后期戏剧中的女主角与奥前期戏剧中的女性角色加以对比，以说 明奥在其早、中期创造的女性角色与其后期的女性人物有着很大的不同，在其 后期剧作中已形成了他的女性主义观点。从对诗人的气质中梅乐迪一家的 人物分析入手，说明梅乐迪事实上就是进剧中玛丽蒂龙的男版，并说明奥
