摘要礼貌，作为一种重要的社会现象，几乎无处不在。在交际过程中，彬彬有礼，谈吐谦和是现代文明和个人修养的体现。鉴于此，礼貌现象在语言学界广受关注和研究。学多著名的语言学家，诸如l a k o f f , l e e c h , b r o w n 和l e v i n s o n 等，都对礼貌现象进行了大量研究。他们的研究主要致力于创立礼貌理论，建立礼貌模式，提出礼貌策略等。此后，国内外关于礼貌问题的研究和著作层出不穷，这些研究和著作几乎都涉及到了对礼貌的使用和理解产生重要影响的各种语境因素，但这些研究大多缺乏系统性，在某种程度上存在分散、重复等问题。鉴于此，本文旨在以h a l l i d a y 的语域理论为基本理论框架，将语域的三个维度，即话语范围、话语基调和话语方式综合起来，融入各种语境因素，对礼貌作一个更加全面、更加系统的研究。本文首先就两个基本理论_ 一礼貌和语域作了详细的阐述，尤其是对h a l l i d a y 的语域理论的相对优势花了诸多笔墨进行讨论，接着分别就礼貌在语域的三个维度中的应用进行研究，然后另辟一章就语域三个维度中的任何两者之间的联系作了阐述，并就三个维度的重要性进行了排序，从而有助于交际双方在不同语境下，尤其是当语域的三个维度发生冲突时，应该如何更恰当地使用和理解言语礼貌。本文试图以全新的视角和理论框架，全面、系统地研究礼貌现象，旨在帮助人们从语域的三个维度出发，更恰当地使用和理解言语礼貌，从而促进英语教学和学习，提高人们的英语交际能力，更好地实现交际目的。关键词：礼貌，语域，话语范围，话语基调，话语方式a
