We lived on a farm, in the winter especially, we were quite cut off from the outside world. As soon as I left school, I packed my bags and moved to the capital. However, I soon discovered that my life has its problems too. One big disadvantage is money. It costs so much to go out, not to mention basics like food and housing. Another disadvantage is pollution. I suffer from asthma(哮喘), and the air is so bad that I am afraid to go outside. Then there is the problem of traveling round. Although I have a car, I seldom use it became of the traffic jams. One choice is to go by bicycle, but that can be quite dangerous. Of course there are advantages. First, there is so much to do in the city, whatever your tastes in culture or entertainment. Besides, there are wonderful jobs and greater chances of moving to a more important job or position. Finally, if you like shopping, the variety of goods is very surprising and, what is more, shops are often only a short walk away. Is life better then, in the city? Perhaps it is, when you are in your teens or twenties. However, as you get older, and especially if you have small children, the peace of the countryside may seem preferable. I certainly hope to move back there soon.21. What was the writer always thinking about when he was a child? A. Staying on the farm. B. Moving to the countryside. C. Leaving home for the city. D. Running away from the school.22. Which of the following is true about the writer? A. He is very old now. B. He is in good health. C. He prefers driving a car. D. He lives in the city now.23. Life in the city or the countryside? B. How to live better in a city?C.Advantages of living in the city. D. Shopping in a city.BIt was the summer of 1965. Buck asked DeLuca about his plans for the future. “Im going to college, but I need a way to pay for it,” DeLuca recalls saying. “Buck said, You should open a sandwich shop.”That afternoon, they agreed to be partners. Still, it was a lot of learning by trial and error. But the partners learn-as-you-go approach turned out to be their greatest strength. Every Friday, DeLuca would drive around and hand-deliver the checks to pay their suppliers. “It probably took me two and a half hours and it wasnt necessary, but as a result, the suppliers got to know me very well, and the personal relationships established really helped out,” DeLuca says. And having a goal was also important. “There are so many problems that can get you down. Even if youve connected with someone, how do you really know he is a true friend? And often you will find that someone who you thought you could trust may have let you down. 31._ Generally speaking, a true friend is someone who will be there for you no matter what happens. 32._ They will accept you for who you are without trying to change you, and they will be there to help you grow in new ways. 33._. They will be honest and be someone you can depend on. They will listen and be someone you can talk things over with, even if they may not have advice to share with you. However, friendship is a two-way street. To find true friends and keep them you must in turn be the same as well. 34._ Be someone your friends can depend on as well and offer them the same thing they give to you. A friendship will fall apart fast if only one person is giving and putting all the effort. If you are the only one making an effort, be honest and it works.Actually, there will be barriers in the road but that is the test of true friendship. 35._ Just as St Thomas Aquinas put it, “ There is nothing on this earth more prized than friendship.”A. True friends should be honest with each other.B. A true friend will keep your secrets for you trust him.C. They will stand by you through bad and good times.D.
