摘要 被誉为“文化解剖者”的唐德里罗，是一位多产的后现代派小说家。近年 来他的著作得到广泛的讨论和研究，他在学术界的地位不断上升。在德里罗所有 的作品中，发表于1 9 8 5 年的小说白噪音最受人关注。“死亡 这一文学的永 恒主题贯穿了白噪音的始终，一些美国学者称之为“美国的死者之书 。本 文从小说中的“死亡 主题入手，对该小说的主题与创作进行解读。 虽然以往的研究对白噪音中的“死亡 主题有所涉及，却很少将小说中 着重展现的人物死亡恐惧感置于当代社会语境之下进行分析。本文结合小说中反 映的当代社会背景，探讨人物普遍被死亡恐惧所困扰的原因、缓冲死亡恐惧感的 方式及结局，力求更好地把握小说的思想内容和艺术特色。本文认为：唐德里 罗在这本小说中展现的“死亡”主题实际上是对当代社会中人们生存困境的一种 深入思考。作者向读者展现了当代人一种无奈的生存状态：一方面，人们始终生 活在深植于当代社会的对死亡的恐惧感阴影之下；另一方面，面对传统宗教观念 日渐衰微的社会现实，人们在企图借助大众传媒、消费主义和科技得以暂时缓冲 对死亡的恐惧感的同时，遭遇的却是真实自我的沦丧和精神的空虚，他们无力对 抗当代社会中的混乱和荒诞，最终只有迷失其中。 ，州4 d h 一d 一- 。 本文分为六个部分。引言依次对白噪音这部小说，“死亡 主题在西方 文学史上的流变，以及前人对在白噪音中“死亡的研究进行简单介绍与回 顾。第一章结合小说内容，分析白噪音中人物在当代社会的背景下如何始终 生活在死亡的阴影之中。第二章说明虽然当代社会中的大众传媒、消费主义和高 科技貌似取代了日渐衰微的传统宗教，却也只能暂时缓冲人们死亡恐惧感而已 第三章探讨人们如何在大众传媒、消费主义和科技的负面影响下迷失于当代社会
