龍樹林歷史龍樹林坐落于斯里蘭卡的中北部，距離東北部的可倫坡大概150公里左右。龍樹林身處在許多濃厚、茂盛龍樹的森林深處，之所以取名為龍樹林森林道場。在2,300年前，烏帝亞 (uttiya) 國王把這座寺院供養于僧團。在這座古老的寺院裏的有些山洞外還遺留著早前的古跡，墻上雕刻著古老的婆羅門文字，記載著這道場的開始。在早前，這裡肯定是個興盛的寺院，可能基於飢荒或疾病而難解的成爲廢墟。在這裡發現到了一座古老的佛塔，這座佛塔過後得重新維修。大約51 年前，一位當地的比丘，bodhirakkhita 尊者決定把自己的kuti建在刻著古老文字的山洞裏以及在那裏住了將近40年。當時的龍樹林裏住著許多的野生動物，如熊、豹、猴子等 它們都在尊者的周圍，伴隨著尊者。 在1997年6月6日，kondaa尊者決定在龍樹林建立起僧團，可是他在不久后生病了。在1999年，在10位尊者的伴隨下，現今的精神顧問，聖喜長老到來了龍樹林以及挑起了在這裡管理的責任。在6個月后，陸陸續續的再有6位比丘的加入。當時，那裏就只有4閒的kuti。有些尊者住在山洞裏，有些則住在巨大的龍樹底下。在這片森林裏，現今已遍滿超過200閒的kuti。 在這寂靜、隱秘的寺院裏，為比丘們切隔絕了所有外界世間的聯係。龍樹林森林道場主要以禪修爲主以及僧衆們嚴守戒律。尊敬的聖喜長老是這道場的精神顧問以及禪修導師。聖喜長老的德行受到僧團、尼師、優婆塞及優婆夷們的崇敬。在這裡有著統訓練森林比丘良好的系統。每年逢聖法大長老的生日、出家日、聖喜長老生日、shr kalyni yogsrama團體的紀念日等特別的日子，都會有人出家，把生命奉獻于佛陀的教法。基本上，平均有100位比丘以及40位禪修者居住在這裡。每逢雨安居，比丘人數會高達100 位以上。當地比丘佔大多數，其他的則是來自世界各地，如馬來西亞、臺灣、中國、新加坡、香港、印度、法國、英國、澳洲、希臘、韓國等等(原文請見後頁)n-uyana aranya senasanaya historyn-uyana forest monastery situated in north central region of sri lanka approximately 150 km north east of colombo. nestled deep in the forest which is thickly populated with many ironwood trees (n-uyana aranya) means ironwood park of monastery. the monastery was offered by king uttiya to the sangha some 2,300 years ago. remains of this ancient monastery can be found among the outer wall some caves. carved on the wall are ancient writings is brahmin scripts, a record of its establishment. it must have been a thriving monastery during ancient time but fell mysteriously to ruin due probably to the famine or disease. an ancient stupa was discovered on the site and a new one has been built on it. the history of the place is rather obscure. some 51 years ago, a local monk ven. bodhirakkhita decided to build his kuti where the cave inscription was found and stayed there for the next 40 years. during his early years in n-uyana, animals such as bears, leopards and monkeys would surround his kuti and keep him company.on 6th june 1997, one ven. kondaa decided to establish a sangha in n-uyana but he soon fell ill. the present spiritual advisor of monastery, ven. ariyananda thera then took on the formers mantle in 1999 accompanied by 10 others monks. they were subsequently joined by another 6 monks some 6 months later. at that time there were only 4 kutis and some of the monks had to put up in some of the caves and under giant ironwood trees. there are now more than 200 kutis sprawled all over the forest. some kutis are set into cave walls and giant overhanging rocks. the solitude of the monastery cut off all forms of communications for the monks. ven. ariyananda thera is the current spiritual advisor and meditation teacher of the monastery which is highly respected. the monastery is extremely well organized for training forest monks. every year during mahthera ariyadhamma birthday, ordination day, ven ariyananda theras birthday, shr kalyni yogsrama association anniversary and special occasions, there will have some people offering their life and ordain in the buddha ssana on that day. basically, there are about 100 monks and 40 lay yogis stay at the monastery and during the vassa period there are also about 10
