A water molecule has two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.5. Substances like sugar has many atoms in their molecules.6. A molecule of sugar has many atoms including carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.B1. Matter is made of molecules such as H2O, which is the water molecule.2. Matter can be in one of three states solid, liquid or gas.3. Water and ice are the same substance, but they are in different states.4. These states depend on the temperature of the molecules.5. When we heat the substance, the molecules move faster and try to take up more space.6. When we cool substance, the molecules move more slowly.7. When we cool a substance to its freezing point, it becomes a solid.C1. In a solid, the molecules move very little.2. Their positions are almost fixed.3. To be fixed means that their positions dont change.4. If we heat the molecules, they move faster and away from each other.5. The solid begins to melt like ice cream on a hot day.D1. At a certain temperature, a solid begins to change into a liquid.2. The temperature at which is solid changes into a liquid depends on the substance.3. For water, the solid begins to change into a liquid when its temperature rises to above zero degrees Celsius.4. For some substances, such as steel, the temperature which it becomes a liquid is much higher.5. Steel often melts around one thousand three hundred seventy (1370) degrees Celsius.E1. If we continue to heat a liquid, the molecules move even faster.2. At a certain temperature, the liquid begins to change into a gas.3. For water, the liquid begins to change into a gas at a hundred degrees Celsius.4. This is the boiling point of water.F1. Inside a star, such as our sun, the temperature is very high.2. Everything inside the sun is a gas.3. According to scientists, there are over sixty-five elements inside the sun.4. This include oxygen and iron.5. Over nighty percent of the sun is hydrogen gas.G1. One reason is for business.5. He is thinking about starting restaurants in both countries.6. The other reason is for pleasure.7. He enjoys travelling, and hed like to visit some friends.B1. Yesterday he went online and made airline reservations.2. There were plenty of seats on the plane, so it was easy.3. He also got a good discount.4. Unfortunately, he needs a new passport.5. His old passport is expiring next week.6. This is something he didnt expect.7. Getting a new passport will take at least a week.8. He needs to apply for one right away.C1. Paul also needs a visa to enter China.2. The last time he went to china was three years ago.3. Getting a visa may also take a week or even two.4. So, he doesnt have much time.5. He needs to hurry.6. He cant get the visa until he gets his new passport.7. Hell have to go to Chinese consulate in Toronto.8. Hopefully, there wont be any delays.D1. Paul has several friends in each country.2. One of his best friends lives near Mount Fuji.3. His friend lives near a beautiful lake about three hours from Tokyo.4. His friend is a great cook and owns a little restaurant.5. The restaurant is located on a hill above the lake.6. It has a wonderful view and the food is wonderful.7. Paul is looking forward to eating there.8. Then he will spend the night at his friends house.E1. One way to get to his friends house is to go by train.2. If he takes the train, his friend will meet him at the train station.3. Theres a train station about half an hour from his friends house.4. On the other hand, he may decide to go by car.5. He can rent a car for a few days, and see more of the country.6. He can use a GPS to help him with directions.7. He doesnt speak Japanese, so the directions need to be English.F1. In china, Paul has a good friend who lives in Beijing.2. They studied at the same university in Canada more than fifteen years ago.3. His Chinese friend wants to help Paul with his business.4. His friend has lots of business experience.5. His friend can help Paul learn about doing business in China.6. Paul knows theres a lot to learn.7. He will certainly need his friends help.G1. While in Beijing, they play to visit several Italian restaurants.2. They may meet some of the owners too, but it isnt certain yet.3. Most of the owners are Chinese.4. One or two of them may want to do business with Paul.5. If he has time, he may go to the Great Wall of China.6. Its a few hours out side the Beijing by car.H1. Altogether, the trip may take three or more weeks.2. Paul still isnt sure how long he will stay in each country.3. He may spend a week in Japan, and two weeks in China.4. He may decide to stay longer.5. Everything expects to get more information from them in the next day or two.L3-U2-2/4- vocabularySport/traumatism(外伤)A1. The game is played on a golf course with eighteen holes.9. In boxing the two boxers stand in a boxing ring and hit each other.10. Sometimes a boxer, like this one, knocked the other one out.B1. When people fall down, they can break a bone.2. A broken bone can be very painful.3. If someone is cut, they will bleed.4. A knife or sharp object can cut someone and cause bleeding.5. Poisons(毒物,毒药) are very dangerous, and can cause death.6. Some snacks and spiders are poisonous(有毒的) so be careful.7. A heart attack can happen very suddenly.8. If someone has a heart attack, call for an ambulance right away.9. If you catch on fire, fall to the ground and roll.10. Good idea, when you think itll be cleaned up.4. A plumber is coming and he should be here soon.5. By the time we get back, the smell should be gone.G1. Thats one job that I wouldnt want.2. There were a couple of reasons for the trip.4. One reason for the trip was for business.5. He wanted to start some restaurants in both countries.6. The other reason was for pleasure.7. Paul enjoys travelling, and he wanted to visit some friends.B1. Before leaving on the trip, Paul had several problems.2. First his passport was going to expire.3. As a result, he needed to apply for a new passport.4. Second, he needed to get a visa to enter China.5. In order to apply for a visa, he needed his new passport.6. He had six weeks to get everything done.C1. After applying for a new passport, it took two weeks to get it.2. Once he got the passport, he went to the Chinese consulate in Toronto in applied for a visa.3. He filled out an application form and stood a long line.4. He was surprised by how many people were applying for visas.5. It took more than an hour to submit his application.D1. He submitted his application for the visa on a Friday.2. A week later, he went back to the consulate to pick up his visa.3. To his surprised, when he got there, the consulate was closed.4. The consulate was closed because it was a Chinese holiday.5. Paul was angry at himself for not checking the consulate website.6. On its website, the consulate schedule was posted.7. There was a notice saying that the consulate would be closed that day.E1. As a result, Paul had to come back the next Monday.2. This was because the consulate is closed on weekends.3. Finally, on Monday he got the visa and was ready to go.F1. Another problem with the trip was his travel schedule.2. he needed to extend his stay in Japan.3. One week in Japan wasnt enough.4. Three Japanese restaurant owners wanted to meet with him.5. He needed more time for the meetings than a couple of days.6. And he didnt want to miss staying with a good friend of his.G1. His friend lives near Mount Fuji and owns a great restaurant.2. This was one thing Paul didnt want to miss.3. As a result, he extended his stay in Japan.4. Instead of staying for just a week, he decided to stay for ten days.H1. As a result, he had to change the date for stay in China.2. The meetings in China were delayed by three days.3. Instead of arriving on the first of the month, he arrived in the fourth.4. Fortunately, there were no problems with his new schedule in China.I1. However, there are a few meetings than he expected.2. There wasnt much interest in opening new Italian restaurants.3. Still, he had one very good meeting.4. He met a young Chinese restaurant owner who was interested.5. The young man already has a restaurant, but he wants to improve it.6. He and Paul liked each other right away.7. They met twice in Beijing and are planning to meet again.J1. The young Chinese mans name is Yu.2. He is planning to come to see Paul.3. Theyre going to meet late next week in Toronto.4. Together they will work on a business plan.5. Paul is glad that he took the trip.6.
