2019中考英语阅读理解金编(3)第一篇(2019中考科普环保类选练) Satellites are an important part of our ordinary lives. For example, the information for weather forecasts is sent by satellite. Some satellites have cameras which take photographs of the Earth to show how clouds are moving. Satellites are also used to connect our international phone calls. Computer connections of the World Wide Web and Internet also use satellites. Many of our TV programs come to US through satellites. Airplane pilots also sometimes use a satellite to help them find their exact location. We use satellites to send television pictures from one part of the world to another. They are usually 35,880 kilometers above the equator. Sometimes we can see a satellite in the sky and it seems to stay in the same place. This is because it is moving around the world at 11,000 kilometers an hourexactly the same speed that the earth rotates. A satellite must orbit the Earth with its antennae facing the earth. Sometimes, it moves away from its orbit,So there are little rockets on it which are used to put the satellite back in the right position. This usually happens about every five or six days. Space is not empty! Every week, more and more satellites are sent into space to orbit the Earth. A satellite usually works for about 10-12 years. Satellites which are broken are sometimes repaired by astronauts or sometimes brought back to Earth to be repaired. Often, very old or broken satellites are left in space to orbit the Earth for a very long time. This is very serious because some satellites use nuclear power and they can crash into each other.1.Which of the following is NOT done by satellites according to the passage? A. A satellite seems to stay in the same place in the sky. D. The satellite puts the rockets in the right position.5.Which is true of satellites? A.A satellite usually works for about 10-12 years. B. If you stand some distance away from the starter, you can see smoke from his gun before the sound reaches your ears. This great speed of light produces some strange facts. Sunlight takes about 8 minutes to reach us. If you look at the light of the moon tonight, remember that the light rays left the moon 1.3 seconds before they reached you. The nearest star is so far away that the light that you can see from it tonight started to travel towards you four years ago at a speed of nearly 2 million km. per minute. In some cases, the light from one of tonights stars had started on its journey to you before you were born. Thus, if we want to be honest, we cant say, “The stars are shining tonight.” We have to say instead, “The stars look pretty. They were shining four years ago, but their light has only just reached the earth.”1. Scientists have been working on this question for a long time. And recently, new discoveries offer more hope that some form of life existed on Mars in the past, and perhaps is still there at present.According to a new report in the book Science, the Mars Explorer Curiosity has found more methane (甲烷) in the Martian air. It might suggest the possibility of life.During the last 20 months, Curiosity has found methane many times, and four of them, it tested at a level 10 times higher than usual. “Its a great increase,” said Christopher Webster, the lead scientist. This new finding has made a big change. In September xx, Curiosity found almost no sign of methane on Mars. Just weeks later, however, the explorer picked up the gas.Methane is also found in Earths air, and comes from animal and plant life, as well as from the environment itself. If theres methane in Mars air, where is it coming from? Scientists arent sure.“There are many possible sources, such as actions between water and rock,” guessed Sushil, a scientist of the Curiosity team. But the scientists have left the possibility open that microbes (微生物) could be the methanes source. Also, for the first time, Curiosity found other organisms (有机物) in the rocks of Mars. Organisms are thought to be the basis to form life. Scientists arent sure where these organisms come from. They could either have formed on Mars or landed on Mars by meteorites (陨石).For the next three years, Curiosity will keep looking for more organisms in rocks and exploring Mars. 29. Where did Curiosity recently find methane?A. In the Martian air. B. In the air on Earth.C. In rocks on Mars. D. In the water on Mars.30. Scientists predict that there might be life on Mars because .A. methane is a sign of life B. astronauts sent to Mars have seen signs of lifeC. the Mars Explorer has taken some photos of animalsD. the environment on Mars is similar to that on Earth31. From the last two paragraphs, we learn that .A. scientists are sure to have found life on Mars B. methane is the basis to form lifeC. there are no rocks and water on Mars D. there is more to learn about Mars参考答案2931、AAD 第五篇阅读下列内容,从每小题所给的三个或四个选项中选出一个最佳答案。Many people like to watch TV.
