The points of sailing would be explained, as would head to wind and how to get out of it. The sail angles would also be covered.Accompanied stage with instructor:2. Repeat all the stages taught in two ways:a) firastly with the instructor demonstrating,b) then sith guest trying.In the event of a large group, this stage would involve taking guests out in pairs for 15 minutes accompanied instruction.Solo Sail1. Before this stage the instructor would calmly mention what to do in the event of a capsize. This stage would only be attempted if the guest is comfortable, the instructor is convinced he/she is readym and the weather is suitable.The instructor would explain the limits to stay within and would assist with the launch and recovery. If possible only the guests sail on reaches.The instructor would watch the solo sailors for the duration of the sail. Safety is vital.Conclusion2. To conclude, the instructor will get the group together for a summary of all things covered.PROCEDURES: (conrinued)During general use of Hobies a half hour limit may have to be imposed so as to enable all guests to use the equipment. The hazards of the tricks will be pointed out, along with the shallowness of the water this will set a lighthearted tone in case come tricks fail. The demonstration attendant will then sail out to the position of the regatta buoy. As the comes up to the buoy on the first run th land based attendant will introduce the head dip and guests will see it carried out. As the demonstrator returns to the buoy the instructor will explain the next trick, and again introduce it as the demonstrator comes up to the buoy. Each trick will be done in the same direction.The rail riding will be the coimax and should receive a big build up in the way of ntroduction.Conclusion6. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: TAKING A WATER POLO ACTIVITYSTANDARD: ALL STAFF MUST BE ABLE TO SWIM AND BE ABLE TO TAKE COMMAND OF A WATER POLO ACTIVITY.PROCEDURE:The water polo activity will be held in the main pool and could be a childrens or adults event. These steps should be followed:1. Ensure that all equipment is get up beforehand, and that everything needed is ready at the poolside. Equipment needed includes; ball goals, water polo caps, ski belts, blackboard chalk, whistle and a safety pole.2. Ensure that all guests at the poolside know that the event is about to take place and how long it about to take place and how long it will take. Encourage participation.3. When guests are gathered, explaing the rules:a) Safety at all times if tired drop out, no ducking etc.b) No holding the ball when moving. The themes used are as follows:a) Open event Simply a game or a series of games to promote enjoyment and group participation.44. Volleyball challenge a specific team against another. For example Parents versus Offspring, Australia vs. the rest of the world or battle of the sexes.b) The Sheraton Fiji team volleyball competition where participants are put into equal teams of six people and a tournament is arranged uwing the blackboard. It can be a knockout or league system.1. Whatever theme is used the organising should be a standard system. Guests nearby will be encouraged to join in. The attendant will introduce himself/herself. The rules will be simply exmlained ie. number of hits etc. The game will then progress with the attendan t either joining in or refereeing.2. In the event of a tournament, the attendant wil not join in but will referee and keep track of matches from the sidelines.3. In the end of a tournament, the winners will be announced by the attendant. This will serve as a conclusion to the events.The emphasis should be on fun and maximum participation.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTICITIES JOB CATEGORY: EQUIPMENT SUPERVISORHEAD: G. M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: LAUNCHING AND RECOVERING SAILBOARDS, HOBIES AND OTHER CRAFTSSTANDARD: ALL STAFF WILL KNOW THE PROPER WAT TO LAUNCH AND RECOVER BOATS.PROCEDURE:The launching and recovery of sailboards and hobie cat is vital not only to the comfort of guests but also to avoid any damage to the equipment.Staff must be aware of the conditions beforf sending out guests and must offer lifejackets to anyone going out. Anyone on the water must be constantly monitored. The following are rigid guidelines:Hobie Cat Launching1. The guest must be reminded how to operate and where they can/cannot go.2. It must be pulled in while remaining head to wind.3. The guests climb aboard while the instructor holds it steady.4. When guests are ready, the instructor will push the bow away from the wind and guests will lower the rudders as the boat gently pulls away.Hobie Cat Receiving.5. Guests will be discouraged from heading straight into the beach at full speed.6. instead they will be encouraged to release the mainsail and come in closer to the wind at a slow pace.7. All incoming boats will be caught.8. As guests get off the Hobie they will be helped ashore.PROCEDURES: (continued)9. The Hobie Cat will then be turned around to face the wind if it is not already. It will then be pulled up the beach carefully avoiding any rocks or stones.10. It will be stored head to wind.Sailboard Launching11. The guest will be reminded how to operate the board and where he can/cannot go.12. The sailboard will be lifted and not dragged in two stages, firstly rig and secondly board. It will then be attached.13. The rig will be placed down wind of the board, the daggerboard will remain only partly down.14. The guest may then take the board, with the instructor initially holding the stern to aid stability.Sailboard Receiving15. As the board approaches, the guest will have been told to stop before hitting the sand.16. The guest will then leave the board to the instructor.17. The board and rig will then be separated and carried individually up the beach and stored neatly.Safety will be emphasised, and at all times care will be taken with the equipment.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: EQUIPMENT SUPERVISORHEAD: G. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: DOING THE HOBIE JOYRIDE ACTIVITYSTANDARD: ALL STAFF WILL KNOW HOW TO SAIL SAFELY AND BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THIS ACTIVITY EFFICIENTLY.PROCEDURE:This activity is for either adults or children, and is scheduled at differing times in the week. It is a one hour event. The number of attendants needed will vary with the number of participants. The only equiopment needed is Hobie Cats and lifejackets.Preparation1. Make sure guests know the even t is to take place and what it involves. Ensure equipment is ready well before event commencement.Introduction2. Introduce yourself and the other instructor and explain what will follow.Each person, pair or group will be taken out for 15 20 minute ride in Hobie Cat with an instructor. It is non introduction to sailing.Explain that guests may have to wait on the beach for their turn, or come back at their allocated time.PROCEDURES: (continued)The Event1. One instructor per Hobie cat trips to be mostly reaching and speed sailing. Trip must be safe and enjoyable.The time must be adhered to so as to allow equal time to each guest.2. After each sail, thank the guest and explain that if they want further sailing or lesssons, to contact the activities desk or beach bure.The stress must be on safety at all times and maximum enjoyment.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: EQUIPMENT SUPERVISORHEAD: G. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: TAKING THE CHILDRENS MEAL STANDARD: EACH STAFF MEMBERS MUST BE ABLE TO ASSIST WITH THE CHILDRENS MEAL AND GENERAL ORGANISATION OF IT.PROCEDURE:The childrens meal will be from 5 pm to 7 pm for seven days a week. It will be preceded every day by a childrens activity, usually finishing by 6 pm.The attendant should, on completion of the earlier activity, escort all the children to the Ocean Lanai area ensuring that none have prior commitments to meet parents.Then:1. Seat all children.2. Organise orders.3. Stay with the group for the duration of the meal, engaging all in conversations, stories etc. This will be aimed at deeping all the children in one place in quiet conversation to allow food to digest.4. At 7. P. m., another childrens activity will be available and the attendant will ensure all children know abvout it. Those who are interested will be taken to the next activity.The attendant should ensure that this event is orderly and that there is not too much noise generated ot disturb other guests.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: EQUIPMENT SUPERVISORHEAD: G. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: ORGANISING THE CHILDRENS SPORTS DAYSTANDARD: ALL STAFF WILL BE ABLE TO ORGANISE A MINI SPORTS DAY FOR CHILDREN.PROCEDURE:This event will usually be on a Sunday and it is two hours long. The meeting place is the beach bure. Two staff members would usually organise the event.When all children arrive the instructor will give a short explanation of the format. He will wmphasise enjoyment, (equipment must be prepared beforehand.)This activity should be done on an individual basis or in teams. Whichever is chosen there must be a definite programme and a way of displaying results to aid motivation. Depending on the number of children participants, events may be as follows: Points would be awarded to each team for the results.1. Straight race separate the sexes and ages.2. Handicap race small children run a shorter distance. 3. Hopping race.4. Piggyback race.5. Wheel barrow race.6. Bean bag race using stones.7. Filling a bucket with a cup race.8. Throwing event using a big stone.9. A game of pirates, statues, shipwreck or captains aboard would act as a concluision.PROCEDURES: (continued)In all events, it is important for other members of the team to cheer on their representative. A good group atmosphere is essential.Other events can be added if necessary. The activity will be held down the beach beyond the hotel in a osition where some shade is available for children who are waiting their event.This event has a lot of potential, for a large group of children, if handled properly. Great care must be taken with preparations.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: EQUIPMENT SUPERVISORHEAD: G. M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: ORGANISING THE CHILDRENS EARLY EVENING GAMES ACTVITIESSTANDARD: ALL STAFF WILL KNOW THE CHOICE OF GAMES AVAILABLE AND BE ABLE TO ORGANISE THE EVENTPROCEDURE:This activity lasts for one hour usually between 7 and 8 P. m. It can take two forms can be merged if the need arises.Form 1 1. Set out 6 or 7 tables.2. On each table place a children;s board game which can be supplied from the activity desk.3. Organise the children into two teams.4. Begin a tournament using those games, with a clear scoring system.5. They could be used in a rotation system or in groups. 6. The instructor would be the referee and would walk around and encourage players.Form 2 7. Organise the children into two teams.8. Go through a series of games, giving points for team winners.Some suggestions include:- Clap trap,- Pass the scissors,- The train game,- Captains aboard,- Paper “item game.”- Charades etc.PROCEDURES: (continued)The two forms can be joined together if needed. Whichever system is used it should be gauged by the instructor to ensure maximum participation and enjoyment. If at any time the children need motivation, a more active of more interesting game can be used to punctuate the quiet ones. It is up to the instructor to improvise, using the games mentioned.On completion of the hour, the instructor must ensure that all games are finished and packed away and that any other equipment used is removed. There must be a clear beginning and ending to the event.STANDARDS AND PROCEDURESDEPARTMENT: ACTIVITIES JOB CATEGORY: EQUIPMENT SUPERVISORHEAD: G. M. APPROVAL: DATE:TASK: CARRYING OUT THE CHILDRENS TREASURE HUNTSTANDARD: ALL EMPLOYEES WILL HAVE THE ABILITY TO ORGANISE AND SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THIS ACTIVITYPROCEDURE:The childrens treasure hunt will initally be held at 4. 45 P. m. to 6. 00 P. m. and the meeting place will be beach bure.The basic equipment needed will be the guide sheet. This will be handed out to each pair and it will outline what is to be done. Also needed are pencils.The stages are as follows: - 1. Ensure all children know about the event earlier in the day.2. Introduce the event to the participants at the deach bure.3. Explain that they have one hour to complete all the items on the list and to discover there final clue is hidden. Everyone must stay in pairs and must remain on the Sheraton grounds. The meeting time at the end of te activity is 5. 45 P. m. at the beach bure.4. On completion of the hunt, decide on a winner and conlcuide the event.This event must be encouraged and the fun element must be stressed.
