may sound impractical if I m not the one in the face of problem But the only people who don t have troubles are gathered in little neighborhoods We call them cemeteries 坟墓 If you re breathing you have difficulties That s how life is But believe it or not most of your problems may actually be good for you Let me explain Maybe you know about the Great Barrier Reef running some 1800 miles from New Guinea to Australia Tour guides often take visitors to see the reef On one tour the guide was asked an interesting question I notice that the lagoon 泻湖 side of the reef looks pale and lifeless while the ocean side is lively and colorful Why is this The guide answered The coral around the lagoon side is in still water With no challenge to its survival it dies early The coral on the ocean side is always being tested by wind waves and storms It has to fight for its survival every day As it is challenged and tested it changes and grows healthy it grows strong He added That s the way it is with every living thing That s how it is with people Challenged and tested we come alive Like coral by the sea we grow Physical problems make for a stronger body Stress makes for a stronger mind So you have problems no problem Just tell yourself There I grow again 21 What does the paragraph 1 intend to tell us A Some people are lucky enough to have no problems B Problems always follow us during our lifetime C Those who are free from troubles tend to live together D Cemeteries is an ideal destination to escape problems 22 Why the lagoon side of the reef has no life A Because it hasn t got enough sunlight B Because it hardly faces any challenges C Because it looks pale and lifeless D Because the other side grows strong 23 In the writer s opinion A having physical problems means your body is strong B we should try to stay away from any troubles C problems sometimes turn out to be beneficial D the fewer things we do the less troubles we will meet 24 After reading this passage we should A regard problems as motivationB learn from the lagoon side C ignore problems and enjoy lifeD gather around cemeteries B A moment s drilling by the dentist may make us nervous and upset Many of us cannot stand pain To avoid the pain of a drilling that may last perhaps a minute or two we demand the needle a shot of novocaine 麻醉药 that deadens the nerves around the tooth Now it s true that the human body has developed its millions of nerves to be highly aware of what goes on both inside and outside of it This helps us adjust to the world Without our nerves and our brain which is a bundle of nerves we wouldn t know what s happening But we pay for our sensitivity We can feel pain when the slightest thing is wrong with any part of our body The history of torture is based on the human body being open to pain But there is a way to handle pain Look at the Indian fakir 苦行僧 who sits on a bed of nails Fakirs can put a needle right through an arm and feel no pain This ability that some humans have developed to handle pain should give us ideas about how the mind can deal with pain The big thing in withstanding pain is our attitude toward it If the dentist says This will hurt a little it helps us to accept the pain By staying relaxed and by treating the pain as an interesting sensation 感觉 we can handle the pain without falling apart After all although pain is an unpleasant sensation it is still a sensation and sensations are the stuff of life 25 Millions of nerves A control the operation of our brains B keep us sensitive to our surroundings C do us more harm than good D help us change the world 26 The sentence But we pay for our sensitivity in the second paragraph most probably means A we suffer at the expense of being sensitive B we have to pay the dentist for making us sensitive C our sensitivity costs us a great deal of money D we are blessed to be sensitive 27 According to the passage we should when dealing with the pain A follow the dentist s wordsB do what the India fakirs do C try to avoid possible sufferingsD keep a relaxed attitude C How often do you check your phone According to a study led by Nottingham Trent University in Britain the average person looks at their device 85 times a day browsing the internet or using apps Updating their status on social media platforms also made people reach for their electronic companion frequently Even the study s participants thought that was a lot this figure is twice as often as they thought they did Our phones might be shaping our behaviour more than we realise and changing the way we interact with people right next to us Do you actually look at your surroundings more than at your phone Is it rude to check your phone when someone is talking to you Sherry Turkle interviewed hundreds of college students about this She s a clinical psychologist and a professor of social studies at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology They talked about something they called the rule of three The rule has to do with being considerate to others in spite of the allure of the little flat box Turkle explains If you go to dinner with friends you don t want to look down at your phone until you see that three people are looking up in the conversation So there s a new etiquette where you don t look down unless three people are looking up in order to keep a little conversation alive Actually if you are clever enough you might use your phone as a tool to connect with people next to you How about showing them pictures stored in its memory Sharing a bit of your life with them can bring you closer together And you can also invite everyone to take a selfie with you But the best thing to deal with mobile phone addiction is to go cold turkey and leave the machine behind occasionally or just switch it off and keep it firmly in your pocket for a while Who knows life might be what happens when you are too busy staring at a small screen 28 People often check their phones may be to a browse the that we re born with just like breathing But now I m 41 of how naive this idea is In fact many of us are not good at listening A recent poll indicated that half the teenagers in the United States believe that communication between them and their parents is 42 and further that one of the prime causes of this gap is 43 listening behavior For example one parent believed that her daughter had a
