Week 9 group 7Forrest GumpBrief introductionThe main structure of the movie Forrest Gump is that Gump sits on a chair and tell his whole life as a story to the passer-by. The story follows the life of low I.Q. Forrest Gump and his meeting with the love of his life Jenny. The film chronicles his accidental experiences with some of the most important people and events in America from the late 1950s through the 1970s including a meeting with Elvis Presley, JFK, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, fighting in Vietnam, etc. The problem is, hes too stupid to realize the significance of his actions. Forrest becomes representative of the baby boomer generation having walked through life blindly.Main charactersForrest Gump: Though at an early age his school principal determines young Forrest possesses an IQ of 75, he has endearing character and devotion to his loved ones and duties, which brings him into many life-changing situations. Along the way, he encounters many historical figures and events throughout his life. Forrest Gump is the definitive American, and he is regarded as a symbol of American values (individual struggle). On one hand, he is a dunce as the hero who is the right person that the U.S. is looking for at that very moment. On the other hand, “Gump” captures the imagination with its mix of comedy, drama, and issues like AIDS, war. Despite his below-average intelligence quotient, he not find the grind of life (in which can get him down), but keep on struggling with his ability to run at great speed.Gumps mother - Mrs. Gump:She was a single mother, Gump was everything for her. She was willing to sacrifice everything to her son. Everyone scorned Gump, but she didnt give up him. The most famous words she said to her son were, “Life is a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.” It means everyone has his own way of life, we should believe that life is full of hope, just do it, never give up. When she was going to die, she told Gump that “Its my time. Its just my time. Oh. Now, dont you be afraid sweetheart. Death is just a part of life. Something we are all destined to do. I didnt know it, but I was destined to be your momma. I did the best I could. ” She uses this method to encourage his son. She was a great mother.Gumps lover Jenny:She is Gumps childhood friend who entered his life in his adulthood. She eventually becoming mother to his son and later marrying Gump. Jenny is a survivor of child sexual abuse, which results in her struggles with self-destructive behavior throughout much of her life.Gumps friend - BubbaBubba is an ordinary, industrious person. Like all black people, he has “the American dream” - “having a ship that fill the shrimp boats, the sea fill shrimp.” Bubba is Gumps best friend, he constantly affected Gump.
