Unit 10 MoneyLesson 3-2 Infinitives毋 小 娥博爱县第三中学Unit10 Lesson3-2 InfinitivesGood afternoon, every teacher. My name is Wu xiaoe. Im from No.3 Middle School Boai County. Its my honor to have the chance to share my lesson with you. Today I am going to talk about how to teach the grammar in Module 4 Unit 10 Lesson 3-2, Ill be ready to begin this lesson from 7 parts. The analysis of the teaching material. The analysis of the students. Teaching aims ,Teaching important and difficult points,Teaching theories and methods. Teaching procedure, blackboard design .Part 1. The analysis of teaching material.My topic today is the infinitive. The students have learned something about the infinitive in Junior High school, and they often meet the infinitive in reading materials, so I think the grammar is not strange to them. In the passage Your money, the writer uses the infinitives to express his ideas, so I think this unit aims to help the students grasp how to use the infinitive. As we know, the infinitive is one of the most important grammars, and it is also one of the most difficult grammars. To help the students grasp the infinitive, I should make the students interested in the class first. So I use a short dialogue to heat the classroom atmosphere. Part2. The analysis of the students.Most of our students are from countryside, so they lack confidence and are shy to express their ideas in English, so I design some interesting and easy work to try to involve all the students in taking part in the class activities, so that all of them can achieve some success in class. Meanwhile, I lay particular emphasis on developing students interest in English and provide the students with a good environment, relaxing atmosphere and more chances for individual and group practice.It is requested in the New Standard English that we should improve the students integrating skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing, so I set some activities to develop the students integrating skills and the ability of imagination and creativity. According to these, I set my teaching aims as follows: Part3 Teaching aims: Knowledge goals: 1. Make the students learn to sum up grammatical rules by themselves 2. Make sure the students master the grammatical itemsAbility goals: 1. listening: get information from the listening materials 2. Speaking: express ones ideas in English 3. Reading: sum up grammatical rules by themselves 4. Writing: write a short passage using the infinitiveMoral goals: 1. To arise the students interest in learning English 2. To encourage students to be active in classPart4 Important points: 1. Work together to sum up the grammatical rules of the infinitive 2. Encourage students to think in the English wayDifficult points: The definition of different forms of the infinitive and how to use themTeaching Aids: tape-recorder; multimedia Part5 My teaching theories and methods In the course of dealing with the lesson, Ill make every effort to carry out the following theories: situational teaching and communicative teaching; task-based teaching; inquiry teaching; making the students the real masters while the teacher acts as a director and helper. Ill try to encourage the students to learn by discussion, cooperation and free talk. In addition, Ill make the best of multimedia and slides to make the class more lovely, interesting and high-effective. Part6 Teaching proceduresStep1 Lead-in in order to make the students understand this lesson focus. I created a dialogue with a student who was late for school. Through dialogue, allowing students to think what structure used in a conversation, ask students to guess the task: What will we learn today?T: Why are you late today ?S: Because my bike is broken on my way to school. Its too old.T: Dont you want to buy a new one?S: Yes, I want to buy a new one this Sunday. But I cant decide which one to choose.T: Why dont you ask your parents to go with you?S: Thats a good idea. If they are free, Ill ask them to go with me.T: Ok. I believe that there are many kinds of a bicycles to choose in the shop. Its not difficult for you to choose a nice one.S: Thank you.T: Youre welcome.Teacher asks the students what structure is used in the conversation.(purpose: to attract the students interest in the topic and by asking “These sentences have something in common and have you found?” lead to the next part)Step2 ListeningFirst,teacher asks the students to listen to the text Your Money and find the sentences including the infinitive.1. The soil contains materials to keep the natural balance of area.2. .this has destroyed almost all the land,and has forced many local farmer to move to other areas.3. It is a huge job to control Yellow River erosion 4. This helps to develop local economies.5. So when you have 5 yuan in your pocket next time ,think twice about how to use the money.6. On land with rich soil, local farmers can grow crops to make a living.7. Visitors from all over the world now come to admire this great achievement. Then, encourage the students to sum up the functions of the infinitive by themselves. (Here, the students can have a discussion)1. to keep used as attributive of the sentence .2. to move used as Object Complement of the sentence.3. to control used as Subject of the sentence.4. To develop used as Object of “help”5. How to use used as Object of the phrasal verb“think about6. to make a living used as adverbial of purpose of the sentence.7. To admire used as Adverbial of purpose of the sentence.(purpose: this part is designed to make the students learn to sum up grammatical rules by themselves and practice the studentslistening ability, at the same time lead to the next part)Step3 GrammarT give examples of different functions of infinitives.1. used as subject To learn English well is not easy. To take care of your garden is my pleasure. In the two sentences , the infinitive is used as subject, if the subject is too long, especially in spoken language, using it as a formal subject.so we also can say: It is not easy to learn English well. Itmy pleasure take care of your garden. 2. used as object I need to attend the meeting. The man wanted to buy a car. .we should remember some verbs,they often use the infinitive as theirobject:ask,agree,afford,arrange,beg,decide,determine,expect,fail,happen,hope,learn,promise,want,wish,prepare,pretend,demand and so on.3.used as predicative Her dream is to become a designer. As an English teacher, my job is to teach English.4. used as attributive Give me something to drink. He asked a room to live in.The infinitive and the modified word has the verb-object relationship. Truthfully intransitive verb, preposition cannot be omitted.5. used as object complement She asked me to help her. The teacher told him to come on time.With the infinitive as the object complement verb:allow, ask, encourage,expect,force,get,order,promise,tell,warn,wish,want.6. used as adverbialHe came to show me his new CD player. (purpose)We were happy to hear that. ( reason)He hurried to the school (only) to find nobody there.( result)7. Other usages1) wh-+to do In the sentence, usually as subject, object, predicativeWhere to hold the meeting is still a problem.Can you tell me when to start our lesson?The problem is how to get in touch with him.2) not to doWe turned down the music in order not to disturb the neighbors.Mother told him not to spend too much time on PC games.(purpose: this part is designed to make the students understand the function of the infinitive, at the same time lead to the next part)Step 4 PracticeGive the students some exercises to do to consolidate the grammatical rules. Ask the students to choose the correct form of the verbs to complete the sentences.then collect the correct answers from the students.damage , study ,take , persuade , make , learn , stay , deal , with , show , create1.
